You can call Mexico from anywhere in the world as long as you know your country's international dialing code and the access code for Mexico. Here's how to do it.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Important Steps
Step 1. Dial your country's international dialing code
To notify your telephone service provider that the number you are calling needs to be diverted to another country, you must first dial a specific international dialing code. This code allows the caller to call "out" of their country.
- Some countries have the same international dialing code, but no international dialing code can be used for all countries. Take a look at the list of international dialing codes below.
- For example, the international dialing code for the United States is “011”. When you call Mexico from the United States, you must first dial “011”.
- Example: 011-xx-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Step 2. Dial the access code for Mexico which is “52”
When calling any international phone number, you must specify the country to which you are calling by entering the country's access code. The access code for Mexico is “52”.
- Each country has its own access code. These access codes are exclusive and unique for each country, unless the country is part of another country that has the same access code. However, the access code for Mexico is only owned by Mexico.
- Example: 011-52-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Step 3. Enter the mobile phone code if needed
If the phone you want to call is a cell phone located in Mexico, you must press “1” to specify the code.
- Note that you do not need to dial any codes when dialing landlines.
- Example: 011-52-1-xxx-xxx-xxxx (calling a cell phone in Mexico)
- Example: 011-52-xxx-xxx-xxxx (calling landlines in Mexico)
Step 4. Enter the area code
All regions in Mexico have their own area codes. To dial any phone number, you must first enter the area code that reaches that phone number. This applies to landlines and cell phones.
