Liquid and foaming hand soap is a type of soap that is easy to use and much more hygienic than bar soap. This type of soap also prevents bacteria and skin diseases. However, commercial hand soap can be expensive and not good for the environment. Besides being easy to make, homemade hand soap can also save you money.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Hand Washing Soap with Ready-made Soap
Step 1. Purchase or use used empty bottles equipped with a dispenser pump
Plastic and glass bottles can be purchased cheaply in many supermarkets and the internet. If you want to be eco-friendly or save money, you can clean and use old bottles that come with a dispenser without having to buy new bottles.
- Choose a strong and beautiful bottle. Remember that you will be using it for a long time.
- If possible, test a few bottles. Make sure that the pump is working properly and look for a bottle that is strong and won't break if dropped.
Step 2. Buy the right refillable gel soap
Hand washing can damage the skin. If the skin on your hands is dry, itchy, irritated or cracked, look for a hypoallergenic or unscented soap.
- Check the label. The most common allergic reactions are caused by the following ingredients: QAC, iodine, iodophor, chlorhexidine, triclosan, chloroxylenol and alcohol.
- Look for soaps that contain moisturizers to protect the skin of your hands.
Step 3. Mix the ingredients
Pour tap water into an empty bottle until it is one-third full. Then pour in the refillable gel soap until two-thirds of the bottle is filled. Shake well to mix the soap and water until it forms a liquid. Close the bottle tightly.
- Add the water first. Otherwise, the water will make the soap foam.
- Do not fill the bottle more than two-thirds of the way. If it is too full, the soap will overflow when the bottle is closed.
- If the dispenser pump gets stuck, apply a small amount of petroleum gel to the dispenser handle so that the dispenser can be used again.
- The mixture must be thin enough to flow through the pump. If the dispenser is clogged, clean it and add more water to the mixture.
Method 2 of 2: Making Scented Hand Soap with Essential Oils
Step 1. Buy the right ingredients
In addition to an empty bottle with a dispenser pump, you will also need unscented liquid soap and perfumed essential oils. The essential oil will determine the color and smell of your hand soap. Essential oils are also believed to be good for health.
- Be sure to use unscented soap. Otherwise, the scent of the soap will overpower the subtle scent of the essential oils used.
- Essential oils can be purchased at many supermarkets and medical supply stores. Essential oils come in a wide variety of colors and fragrances, such as citrus, rosemary, violet, and more.
- Aromatherapy claims that essential oils have many health benefits. Some of these benefits are true, but many are exaggerated.
Step 2. Prepare the room that will be used to make soap
Cover the surface with a plastic tablecloth and make sure there is a faucet in the room. Wear an apron to keep your clothes from getting stained and use gloves if you have sensitive skin. Keep tissues nearby in case water spills on the table or floor.
Be careful, especially with essential oils. Essential oils stain easily and stains are difficult to remove
Step 3. Mix the ingredients
Pour tap water into an empty soap bottle until it is one-third full. Then, pour in the refillable gel soap until two-thirds of the bottle is filled. Add a teaspoon of essential oil and mix until the ingredients form a homogeneous liquid. Close the soap bottle tightly.
- If the scent isn't strong enough, add another teaspoon of essential oil. Don't add too many essential oils at once as they smell very strong and are expensive.
- You can also modify the color of the soap by adding food coloring. Always use natural dyes to avoid chemicals.
