People are often embarrassed to talk about hemorrhoids (sometimes called "hemorrhoids" or "hemorrhoids"). In fact, about half of adults have experienced it occasionally. Hemorrhoids occur when sitting or straining causes the formation of blood-filled lumps in or around the anal veins. While these problems are usually treatable and not serious, hemorrhoids can be very annoying when you sit down. If you want to have a more comfortable bowel movement while suffering from hemorrhoids, try not to sit too long, sit wisely, and deal with the small lump that causes the discomfort.

Method 1 of 3: Sit More Comfortable
Step 1. Adjust your position during bowel movements
For most of human history, people defecated in a squatting position in the forest or on hollow ground. Even today, there are still many people who defecate in this position. Squats with your knees bent toward your chest can create a better position for your digestive tract to pass stool (and may even speed up the process). Some experts believe that this position can reduce the possibility of hemorrhoids.
If you don't want to poop in a squatting position, try raising your feet while sitting on the toilet. Simply place a small stool or pile of books to support the soles of your feet. This method can improve the position of the internal organs and help speed up the expulsion of feces and reduce the pressure that causes hemorrhoids
Step 2. Pad your buttocks as you sit
Sitting is a big problem when you have hemorrhoids. So, sitting for too long in a comfortable soft chair can make the rectum feel itchy and painful. However, you should still choose a seat that is softer than hard. So, sit in a chair with a thick cushion, or tuck a pillow or thick seat cushion under your buttocks if you have to sit on a hard chair or bench.
You can also search the internet for a product known as a "hemorrhoid pillow" or something similar. There's no guarantee that a pillow like this will be more useful than a regular pillow, but it may also help. Donut-shaped pads that are used after someone has had surgery or have an injury to the anal area may be considered. Give these pillows a try and then find out which one suits you best
Step 3. Keep the buttocks area cool and dry
If you've ever had hemorrhoids, you probably already know that sweat and heat between the buttocks can make the anal area very itchy and uncomfortable. Standing, or sitting while wearing tight clothing that retains heat and moisture can make this situation worse. So, in addition to making sure your buttocks area is kept clean and dry, choose the right clothes to help reduce pain in your buttocks.
Choose loose-fitting clothing (including underwear) made of breathable fabrics such as cotton. Replace your underwear with new ones if they feel damp from sweat
Method 2 of 3: Reducing Sitting Frequency
Step 1. Reduce defecation time
You can see the signs of hemorrhoids during bowel movements, by noticing the presence of blood in the water or toilet paper. Sitting on the toilet is also one of the main causes of hemorrhoids, especially if you spend a long time or strain during a bowel movement. The sooner you have a bowel movement, pass stool, and get up from the toilet, the better.
- Don't sit on the toilet too long if it's not necessary. For example, to complete a chapter in a reading book or playing with a cell phone.
- If you are taking more than a few minutes to pass a bowel movement due to constipation, find ways to deal with it, such as drinking more water, increasing your intake of fiber-rich foods, and taking fiber supplements and/or stool softeners.
- In addition, immediately defecate when you feel the need. Holding a bowel movement can cause or worsen constipation.
Step 2. Don't sit too long
Sitting can increase pressure on the blood vessels in and around the anus. In fact, hemorrhoids will form in blood vessels that are under pressure. So, try to stand up while watching TV, working (using a height-adjustable desk that allows you to work in a sitting or standing position), and while doing other daily activities. This is good for health as well as can help you fight hemorrhoids.
When you have to sit down, stand up and move around every now and then. This can help prevent the pooling of blood that causes hemorrhoids, as well as relieve pain from hemorrhoids that you suffer from
Step 3. Move while standing
Standing is better for your health than sitting. However, moving is even better than standing. Walking, dancing, gardening, or other moderate-intensity activities can do a lot of good for your body, including reducing constipation.
Exercising can also help you lose weight, thereby reducing pressure on the blood vessels around the buttocks
Method 3 of 3: Reducing Hemorrhoid Discomfort in Other Ways
Step 1. Do something about constipation
Anyone can experience hemorrhoids, especially those who are often constipated. Sitting on the toilet for long periods of time and straining to pass hard, solid stools is a major combination of causing hemorrhoids and discomfort.
- One of the easiest ways to deal with constipation is to drink more water. Women are encouraged to consume 9 cups (2 liters), while men are encouraged to consume 13 cups (3 liters) of fluids per day.
- In addition, also increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Eat fruits, vegetables, and high-fiber cereals such as oats.
- Watch for side effects of any medications or supplements you take. Constipation may be caused by certain medications. If so, consult your doctor to stop or change the medication you are taking.
- Also consider taking fiber supplements or stool softeners. However, be sure to consult your doctor first before using it long term.
- Remember that to effectively prevent constipation, you need to do a combination of these things. Exercise more, increase fluid and fiber intake, and stop using drugs that cause constipation. This combination as a whole can help reduce constipation better than a single treatment alone.
Step 2. Keep your hemorrhoidal area clean
Regularly cleaning and drying the hemorrhoidal area gently can keep it cool and comfortable. For example, try using wet wipes (unscented) instead of regular toilet paper, which tends to be more abrasive and doesn't clean thoroughly.
- Take a shower, or better yet, soak daily and clean the area with only water. Pat the area dry or use a hairdryer on the lowest setting.
- You can also try a sitz bath with a toilet-sized basin that will allow you to clean only the buttocks area. Use cool, clean water and then sit there for 10-15 minutes 3 times a day (or more if necessary).
Step 3. Try medications or topical treatments
The variety of treatment options and medications available in pharmacies is a clear illustration that hemorrhoids are very common. Try the various options available and find out what treatments can help relieve your hemorrhoids. However, do not use this treatment for more than 2 weeks without consulting your doctor first.
- Hemorrhoid creams or ointments (known as "preparations") can help shrink hemorrhoidal tissue and relieve itching and discomfort. Ointments or pads containing witch hazel may also be effective in treating hemorrhoidal itching and pain.
- A simpler treatment option, by applying an ice pack or cold pack that has been wrapped in a cloth to the intergluteal gap (cleavage of the buttocks) can temporarily relieve the pain and inflammation of the hemorrhoids.
- Pain relievers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can also relieve some of the discomfort caused by hemorrhoids.
Step 4. Consult a doctor
If your rectum is itchy or uncomfortable, and you can feel a lump outside your anus, and/or notice a little blood when you have a bowel movement, you may have hemorrhoids. However, although very rare, the cause can be more serious diseases such as anal fissure to internal bleeding and even cancer. For that, visit a doctor and make sure you do have hemorrhoids then talk about treatment options.
