This wikiHow teaches you how to find the model number of an HP laptop. You can use this number to identify a specific device when someone else has the laptop repaired, or to make sure certain hardware (eg batteries) is compatible with the laptop.

Method 1 of 2: Using the System Information Feature
Step 1. Hold down Win. key and press the button R.
After that, the command " Run " will be executed on the Windows computer.
On a computer running Windows 7 or later, you can also right-click the "Start" menu and click the option " Run ”.
Step 2. Type msinfo32 into the Run window
Enter the command in the search field to the right of the " Open: " heading.
Step 3. Click OK
Windows System Information tools/features will be displayed. This window contains details regarding the specific computer model.
Step 4. Locate the “System SKU” segment
This segment is in the middle of the “System Information” page. The number displayed to the right of the text " System SKU " is the model number of your HP laptop.
You can also find the computer product name in this window by searching for the name next to the " System Model " category
Step 5. Write down the SKU number
By providing this information to a technician or using it in a driver or hardware search entry, you can get the right information for your laptop.
Method 2 of 2: Using Product Labels
Step 1. Turn off the laptop
On each version of Windows, you can turn off the laptop by holding down the device's power button until the machine turns off.
- Make sure you have saved and closed all work before turning off the laptop.
- On Windows Vista and later, click the “Start” button in the lower-left corner of the screen, click the power icon, and select “ Shut down ”.
Step 2. Disconnect the laptop from the power source
This is done to ensure that you do not experience an electric shock when removing the laptop battery.
Step 3. Turn the laptop over and remove the battery
Most of the time, all you have to do is slide the battery holder switch to the left or right, hold it down, and carefully remove the battery.
If there is a sticker on the bottom of the laptop with product information, you may not need to remove the battery
Step 4. Look for the "Product" label
Usually, this label is in a separate segment from the "Regulatory" information section. Next to the "Product" label is a series of numbers and letters. This series is the model number of your HP laptop.
If you can't find the "Product" label, look for the "Serial" heading. Although the laptop model number is not related to the serial number, it is usually shown below the serial number
