The SD card has a mechanical lock that works to prevent this card from being written to. Although good in terms of security, but this lock is often broken. Luckily fixing an SD card doesn't cost much and only takes a minute. See Step 1 below to find out how.

Step 1. Find the lock groove
Look for the lock button first. This groove is usually located on the left edge of the SD card when viewed from the front.
Step 2. Remove any remaining locking material
If any pieces of plastic from the lock switch are still attached or hanging off, use nail clippers to gently pry out the remaining pieces.
Step 3. Take the adhesive tape
You will need strong clear adhesive tape. The Scotch brand is the most common, any brand of ribbon can be used. Make sure the roll of tape is not too wide, the default is 1/2 inch.
Step 4. Cut a piece of ribbon
Cut a small piece of ribbon from the roll. Cut out 1/2-inch tape, so you now have 1/2-inch x 1/2-inch tape.
Step 5. Adhere the tape to the locking groove
The tape should wrap around the front and back of the SD card, creating a flat surface along the edges of the lock grooves. Be sure to press the tape firmly so that there are no wrinkles or bubbles.
- Make sure that none of the contacts on the back of the SD card are covered by the tape, or the card will not be read.
- Bumps on the tape or raised edges can cause the SD card to get stuck in the slot.
Step 6. Insert the card into the device or reader
Now the card should be fully exposed. If it's still locked, make sure the surface of the tape is flat on the end of the lock.
