Zebra danio is a type of tropical fish that is a very good choice for those who are just starting the hobby of keeping fish. At about five inches long and attractive, the zebra danio is a social fish species that likes to interact with other fish and breed quickly.

Method 1 of 3: Preparing the Aquarium
Step 1. Purchase an aquarium with a minimum size of 40 liters
Danio is a social animal and needs space for himself and his friends. The aquarium must be equipped with BIO-Wheel, exterior power filter and heater.
- These fish can be treated without using a heater. However, use a heater to keep the fish in optimal condition, especially if you are breeding these fish.

Step 2. Purchase chemicals for water treatment

You may have to purchase a sodium thiosulfate solution to remove the chlorine and Amquel to remove the chloramine.

Step 3. Put the gravel into the aquarium
Fish like the layer of gravel placed at the bottom of the tank. Add gravel until it is about 1/2 inch thick.
Step 4. Add water
Tap water is generally fine, but you have to get rid of the chemicals in it. Add water until it almost fills the top of the aquarium. Do this so that the oxygen layer on the top of the aquarium is maintained.
Step 5. Treat your aquarium water
In addition to adding Amquel and sodium thiosulfate, adjust the pH level of the aquarium water as well. There are many acids and bases sold in pet stores that can adjust the pH level of the aquarium water. Test and adjust the pH level of the water in the 6-8 range, but 7 is recommended.

Step 1. Enter a minimum of 6 danio tails
Danio is a social animal who likes to be with other fish. To be optimal, enter a minimum of 6 danio. Danio is also not hostile to a number of other varieties of fish, including corydoras and tetras.
Step 2. Enter danio-danio of a different gender
In order to breed danio, make sure you include danio-danio of both sexes. To distinguish them, the male danio has yellow stripes, while the female danio is generally larger.
