This wikiHow teaches you how to meet the requirements to adopt a child in the Skyrim game. If the conditions are met, you can adopt children from the Honorhall Orphanage in Riften, or homeless children scattered on the streets of Skyrim.

Part 1 of 2: Meeting the Requirements
Step 1. Purchase and install Hearthfire DLC
You can use the Hearthfire add-on to adopt children and build homes. The price is $ 4.99 (about Rp. 60 thousand).
- On a computer, you can purchase the Hearthfire download code on Amazon or on the Steam store.
- PlayStation and Xbox users can purchase the Hearthfire in their respective console marketplaces.
- Skyrim Special Edition has included Hearthfire DLC in the main game.
Step 2. Buy a house
Most houses have their own prerequisites, which require you to do side quests (small missions in a game) for the Jarl (leader) in the city in question, although the Whiterun property will become available when the player completes the main quest. You can buy a house in the following cities:
- Whiterun - Buy a Breezehome house for 5,000 gold. This is the second building on the right after you enter Whiterun.
- Windhelm - Buy Hjerim's house. This house is opposite the "House of Cruel-Sea" location, which can be purchased for 12,000 gold.
- Riften - Buy a Honeyside house for 8,000 gold. This house is at the end of the street on the right when you first enter the Riften.
- Solitude - Purchase the Proudspire Manor mansion for 25,000 gold, which is next to Bards College, on the right side of the center of town.
- Markarth - Purchase the Vlindrel Hall property for 8,000 gold. You can find it on a series of stairs on the right side of the city entrance.
- You can also build houses in The Pale Hold, Falkreath, and Hjaalmarch. However, due to bugs, sometimes Skyrim doesn't think of it as a home for children to live in.
Step 3. Fill your house with furniture
Talk to the Jarl's servant in the selected city if you want to beautify the house (eg talk to Proventus Avenicci in Whiterun). Next, select the " I'd like to decorate my home " option and purchase all the available options, especially items to decorate a child's bedroom.
If you've just installed Hearthfire DLC, you may have to wait for a courier to arrive with a message about repairing a child's bedroom
Step 4. Kill Grelod the Kind
Contrary to his name, Grelod is a cruel orphanage owner. "Honorhall Orphanage" is located in Riften. How to perform this task:
- Take a quick trip to Riften. If you've never been to Riften, buy a horse-drawn carriage outside Whiterun or another big city to take you there.
- Walk straight across the bridge, then turn left in front of "Bee and Bard".
- Walk until you come to a series of stairs, then turn right. You will arrive at the Honorhall Orphanage.
- Enter the Honorhall Orphanage, then wait for the children to disperse.
- Kill Grelod while he is sleeping. This is the best way to keep yourself from getting caught.
Step 5. Get out of there and wait for 48 hours in the game
This length of waiting time was necessary so that Constance Michel had sufficient time to become the new head of the Honorhall Orphanage. At this point, you will receive a message confirming that this woman is now the new head of the orphanage.
You can also make a quick trip back home and wait (or continue another unfinished mission) until you receive the message
Step 6. Re-enter the Honorhall Orphanage and look for Constance
This woman wears a yellow dress and usually walks around the orphanage with the children, although it is possible that she is sleeping in her room which is on the right side of the orphanage's main hall.
Step 7. Talk about adoption with Constance Michel
Once the conversation is over, you can choose the child you want to adopt. You must select the following conversation options to answer the woman's question:
- At the beginning of the conversation with him, select " Could I adopt one of your children? " (can I adopt one of the children here?), then select " What do I need to do?"
- Say your name when he asks.
- When he asks what your job is, answer "I'm the Dragonborn".
- When asked where the child you wish to adopt will live, answer "At my house in [City]".
Part 2 of 2: Adopting Children
Step 1. Find the child you want to adopt and talk to him
You can adopt all the children in the orphanage.
Step 2. Select the "I can adopt you, if you want" option
This is the second option in the dialog box. You can also select the "Tell me about yourself" option if you want to hear a story about the child.
Step 3. Select "Yes I'm sure
..daughter/son (Yes I'm sure…son).
The child will vent joy. Next, you can return to the house you selected earlier when you talk to Constance Michel. The child will be there when you arrive.
You can adopt a maximum of two children
Step 4. Visit your home to interact with the children
When you come back they will always be there.
You don't have to feed the kids or worry if they're killed by NPCs/ Non Playable Characters (unplayable characters) because they won't die
Step 5. Try adopting a homeless child
You can adopt children who roam the streets scattered throughout Skyrim. Children who can be adopted include:
- Reason - at Dawnstar
- Blaise - at Solitude
- Lucia - at Whiterun
- Sophie - in Windhelm
Step 6. Try adopting a child from a dead NPC
Children whose parents were killed by other players or NPCs will appear in Honorhall Orphanage. Children who can be adopted include:

Tips
You cannot adopt an Aventus Aretino even if you meet all the prerequisites for adopting a child
Warning
- You will not be able to adopt a child if you kill the child's parents in front of him.
- After adopting a child, the only way to bring the child into a new home is to get married. Next, ask your partner to move into another house with you.
