Cake is one type of food that can be made and eaten in the game Minecraft. These are shown as solid blocks (by far the only edible blocks in the game), consisting of a sponge base topped with icing and cherries.

Method 1 of 3: Collecting Materials
Step 1. Get three buckets of milk
To get milk, right-click on a cow or mooshroom while your character is holding a bucket.
Step 2. Get one chicken egg
Eggs are produced by chickens, which can be found in the desert. You can also raise chickens if you catch them inside the fence.
Step 3. Get two sugars
Sugar is made from sugar cane and is only edible if it is used as an ingredient in a recipe.
Step 4. Get three oats
This acts as the "flour" for the cake. Wheat can be planted or can be found in dungeon chests.
Method 2 of 3: Making Cakes
Step 1. Place the ingredients into the crafting box
You need the following pattern:
- Place three milk buckets in the top three slots.
- Place one sugar to the left of the center slot, and one sugar to the right.
- Place the egg in the center slot.
- Place the grain in the remaining three square slots at the bottom.
Step 2. Make your cake
To move it to your inventory, shift click or drag the cake. Three empty milk buckets will also be automatically returned to your inventory.
Method 3 of 3: Eating the Cake
Each cake block contains six slices.
Step 1. Place a cake block on top of another block
You cannot eat the cake by holding the block. You can't put a cake where you can't build.
Step 2. Right-click the cake to eat it one slice
Step 3. Share your cake
You can share slices of cake with other players if you wish because there are six slices in each cake block.
Tips
- After making your first cake, you will get the achievement "The Lie".
- Cakes are really just for fun not as a reliable source of food. Cakes are ingredient intensive, don't stack (so they take up a lot of inventory space if you store more than one cake) and provide only low saturation levels. We recommend that you save it for celebration or sharing activities while you are playing the game. Cakes can bring benefits to recover six units of hunger bars.
- It takes time to collect the ingredients to make the cake. This cannot be done in a hurry by a new player.
Warning
- If your cake crumbles, you lose the cake and get nothing, because nothing was dropped.
- Partially eaten cakes will not be returned to your inventory. To finish it, you must return to where you left it to continue eating it.
