Dandruff is a common problem of the head which has the symptoms of excessive exfoliation of the scalp and itching of the head. Dandruff can be caused by an overabundance of fungi or bacteria on the scalp, and both require a certain pH to live. Therefore, changing the pH in the scalp will solve your problem. One of the easiest ways to change the pH of the scalp is to apply vinegar. Vinegar even has the added benefit of relieving the itching associated with dandruff. Apply vinegar to the scalp regularly to treat dandruff problems.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using Vinegar for Mild Dandruff
Step 1. Wash your hair
Don't use heavy shampoos and conditioners. Try using a tea tree or citrus oil-based product that doesn't strip your hair and scalp of the natural oils.
Step 2. Apply the vinegar and water mixture to your wet hair
The mixture of vinegar and water should be in a 1:1 proportion. Pour slowly over the top of your head, making sure you don't get in your eyes. Instead, give it a few minutes to massage the mixture into the scalp.
Step 3. Leave the vinegar and water mixture on your head for a few minutes
Give it time for the mixture to soak into the scalp. Try to ignore the strong smell of vinegar until you wash it off.
Step 4. Rinse hair thoroughly
You can apply shampoo and conditioner again later or simply rinse with warm water. However, the vinegar smell may not go away if you just rinse it off with water.
Step 5. Repeat the daily use of vinegar until the dandruff is completely gone
It takes a few days to get rid of dandruff. You may not be able to stand the smell of vinegar, but the drawbacks are nothing compared to improving the health of your scalp.
Method 2 of 2: Using Concentrated Vinegar to Get Rid of Severe Dandruff
Step 1. Go to the bathroom
Go to the bathroom so the vinegar drops don't damage the carpet or furniture. You should also take your clothes off so they don't get stained with vinegar.
Step 2. Mix cup of apple cider vinegar with a few tablespoons of water in a small spray bottle or bowl
You can use undiluted apple cider vinegar, but it will be harsh on your scalp and can strip your hair of moisture. Instead, use a diluted mixture to make it effective and non-damaging.
Step 3. Apply the vinegar mixture directly to the scalp
Spray or use a cotton swab to apply vinegar to your head. Don't forget to close your eyes so the vinegar can't get in there!
Step 4. Massage the vinegar between your hair and absorb it into your scalp
Do not let the vinegar only wet the hair but not the scalp. Gently spread the vinegar all over the scalp.
Step 5. Leave the vinegar for 20 minutes on the head
Wrap a warm towel over your head to reduce odor and keep the vinegar on your head. The warmth of the towel will also open up the pores so the vinegar can soak in.
Step 6. Rinse hair thoroughly
Due to the power of vinegar, use shampoo and conditioner to get rid of the smell. Make sure the products you use are mild and beneficial to the scalp (eg tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner).
Step 7. Repeat this treatment several times a week
Concentrated vinegar is quite harsh on the scalp. Therefore, do not do this treatment every day. However, regular maintenance will expel the dandruff-causing bacteria.
