If you want to make a fake cut/scar, whether it's for Halloween or to scare a friend, you can make one out of household products and makeup kits. You can also use stage makeup kits specially designed for that. Use the right gear to easily create fake cuts that make your costume look convincing.

Method 1 of 3: Making a Fake Wound Without Latex

Step 1. Prepare the materials needed to make a fake wound

The materials and tools you'll need are regular white glue, a skin-tone makeup kit, toilet paper, and a few small makeup brushes.

• Make sure the glue you use is not harmful to the skin because it will be applied directly to the skin.

  

• Use a foundation that matches your skin tone. Take advantage of your daily makeup kit because it should match your skin tone.

  

• You can also use a liquid foundation that is slightly different in color to your skin tone to give the wound a more authentic look.

  

• Spread out the newspaper and don't wear nice clothes to avoid spills or splashes.

  

Step 2. Tear off the toilet paper

Prepare toilet paper that is slightly larger than the area you want to cut.

• If you want to make a cut on your hand, you'll probably only need a piece of toilet paper.

  

• To make a large cut, you may need 2-3 pieces of toilet paper.

  

• Tissues such as Paseo can also be used. Instead, use plain tissue (not embossed, not patterned).

  

• After getting a tissue or toilet paper, tear it again to the size before. You will need at least 2 pieces of tissue of the same size. Apply tissue (at least 2 layers) to the area where the fake wound is to be made.

  

Step 3. Apply glue to the area of skin where you want to make a fake wound

Pour a small amount of glue onto wax paper or a cup, then apply it to your skin using a brush.

• If you just want to make zombie bites or cuts on your hands, you won't need too much glue. It's different with a gaping wound on the arm, which will require more glue.
• Do not use too little glue so the toilet paper can stick firmly to the skin.

Step 4. Apply the tissue to the area of the skin that has been smeared with glue

Press firmly so that the toilet paper sticks to the area.

• Let the glue dry for about 1 minute. After the tissue sticks firmly, repeat again.

  

• Use a brush to add a layer of glue on top of the toilet paper. Spread evenly over the entire surface of the tissue, then add another layer of tissue.

  

• Two layers of tissue should suffice, but adding more will make the wound look deeper. If you want a deeper cut/tear, add 3-5 layers of tissue.

  

Step 5. Apply glue all over the edge of the tissue to even out the fake wound

Once the two layers have been applied and dry, re-smear the edges with glue to make the wound look more realistic.

• Once the makeup is applied, the texture of the glue will add a realistic effect to the edges of the wound.

  

• If the edges of the tissue are clearly visible and unmakeup, the wound will not look realistic.

  

• Use a hairdryer (if you have one) to make the glue dry faster.

  

Step 6. Use liquid foundation so that the color of the tissue is similar to the color of your skin

To make the wound look original, use foundation to color it.

• Cover the border area between the tissue and the skin by applying foundation to the skin. This method will make it difficult for people to see the boundary between the wound and the skin.

  

• Use a foundation that closely resembles your real leather. The colors don't need to be exactly the same as the difference in color will make the wound look more realistic.

  

• Flat brushes are best used because they will give a more even result.

  

Step 7. Slice and tear the tissue to make an incision

After the foundation is applied, use scissors or tweezers to slice / tear the tissue.

• Make straight incisions if you want to make a gaping wound, or circular slices for zombie bites.

  

• Be careful when slicing because the scissors will be very close to your skin. It's a good idea to make only a few incisions to create gaps in the tissue. After the gap is created, then continue to tear.

  

• Do not throw away the torn tissue. Torn tissue will give the impression of a peeling wound, making your fake wound look more convincing.

  

Step 8. Apply makeup

Apply red, purple, and gray/black eyeshadow to the skin.

• Apply the eye shadow directly to the visible skin from the tear you made in the tissue.

  

• Also apply to the tissue area around your skin.

  

• Dark eye shadow is perfect for bruising.

  

Step 9. Add fake blood to the wound

Once satisfied with the wound and its color, add fake blood.

• To make the wound look more realistic, add fake blood to your skin and tissue. After that, use a brush to spread the blood onto the wound.

  

• Once some of the fake blood has been flattened out, you can add more fake blood to make the wound look like it's bleeding.

  

• To make it look like a real wound, apply a few drops of fake blood to the area and let it drain. For example, if you have a gaping wound on your arm, drip fake blood over the top of the wound and leave the arm in its normal position to allow the blood to flow down.

  

• To remove the fake wound, simply rinse the area with water.

  

Method 2 of 3: Making a Fake Wound with Vaseline

Step 1. Prepare all the materials needed

For this method you will need Vaseline, eye shadow, lip gloss or lipstick, a makeup brush, and a toothpick.

• Prepare eye shadow in dark blue, light blue, light brown, dark brown, red, dark pink/salm, and yellow.
• Lip gloss or dark red lipstick looks a lot like blood. Lip gloss gives the wound a shinier and wetter look, while lipstick is perfect for drying blood.
• As an extra touch, you can use fake blood.

Step 2. Apply a layer of Vaseline to the desired area

The thicker the layer, the more swollen the wound will look.

• Blend the edges to make it look more natural, not like Vaseline clumps.

  

• The Vaseline method is more suitable for small cuts on the hands or arms.

  

Step 3. Draw a line on the Vaseline layer to form the incision

Use a toothpick to do this.

• For a stab wound look, draw a slightly uneven but fairly thin line.

  

• For larger or gaping wounds, draw a slightly wider line.

  

Step 4. Apply eye shadow to the wound

Let the Vaseline dry a bit so you don't have to blend it too much with the eyeshadow. Apply the eyeshadow with the help of an eye shadow brush or applicator.

• To make the wound look deeper, use a dark color like brown or gray in the center.

  

• On the edges, use a light pink/salmon color to blend the edges of the wound with your original skin tone.

  

• To make the wound look new, apply red eye shadow between the pink/salmon and brown areas.

  

• Blue and/or yellow eye shadow can also be used around the wound to give a bruised appearance. Blue, yellow, green, and purple colors are used to convey the impression of bruising.

  

• Make sure to blend the eyeshadow well so that none of the parts look unnatural.

  

Step 5. Enhance the appearance of the wound by applying lip gloss or red lipstick and fake blood

Apply lipstick or lip gloss to the center of the wound to make it look new.

• Lipstick gives a drier wound look than lip gloss.

  

• Drop fake blood into the center of the wound and allow it to collect or flow, to enhance the final look.

  

Method 3 of 3: Fake Wounds with Stage Makeup & Latex

Step 1. Gather the ingredients

Stage and latex make-up are designed to give a realistic look that can be used on stage. You can also use it for costumes, parties or just for fun. What you need:

• Liquid latex. Mehron's liquid latex is often used to make fake wounds.
• Several brushes.
• Fake blood.
• Tissue. Wherever possible, use plain tissue.
• Dark eye shadow.
• It's a good idea to cover the floor with newspaper so that the liquid latex and fake blood don't fall apart.

Step 2. Apply liquid latex

Shake the liquid latex bottle before opening. After that, apply to the desired area

• Liquid latex is quite difficult to work with and tends to fall apart. Try to spread it evenly. No need to rush. Liquid latex dries pretty quickly, but try to apply as smoothly as possible.

  

Step 3. Add tissue

Due to the nature of liquid latex that dries quickly, we recommend using it on several small areas. Do not pour it all at once in one area only. Press the tissue against the latex so that it sticks firmly.

• The wipes can adhere quite firmly to the latex. Once it sticks firmly enough, pull off the edges of the non-stick tissue.

  

Step 4. Apply at least 1 more layer of tissue

Repeat the previous process by applying the liquid latex to the tissue, then adding another layer of tissue.

• Usually 2 layers of tissue are sufficient, but if you want the wound to appear deeper, add 2-5 layers of tissue.

  

Step 5. Make an incision in the wound

Once the layers of tissue and latex have dried, make a hole or incision.

• To punch holes or make incisions, use a toothpick or tweezers.

  

• Exfoliated tissues and latex are similar to layers of skin peeling off from a gaping wound.

  

Step 6. Apply liquid foundation

After the fake wound has a hole / open, apply foundation to the tissue and latex.

• Make sure the latex and tissue foundation blends into the skin.

  

• Rub the area around it with your finger so that the color blends in even more.

  

Step 7. Add powder, eye shadow, and fake blood for the bleeding wound

Use any red eyeshadow or powder (you can use a brush to apply it).

• Paint the skin and the area around the wound a lighter color, while the center of the wound is a darker color.

  

• Add a few drops of blood, then blend. After that, add a few more drops in and around the wound, then let it drip.

  

Tips

• You can use red food coloring and corn syrup to make fake blood.
• Use a darker color if you want a more plump or more realistic look for the wound.
• Add a little red or brown blush to make it look like a zombie.
• Make your own fake blood with water mixed with cornstarch dyed red.

Warning

• Before making a fake wound, make sure you are not allergic to the materials used, such as latex.
• If you choose to use a knife, needle, or other sharp object that can cause injury, use the equipment with care. If a fake wound is to be applied to a small child or person with Tourette's syndrome, never use dangerous equipment.
• Red food coloring stains don't go away from clothes and stay on the skin for a long time.
