The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a series of prayers similar to the Rosary. This prayer is also recited using the rosary. Saint Faustina created this prayer after experiencing a series of visions from Jesus, who identified Himself as Divine Mercy.
Step
Step 1. Make the Sign of the Cross
Step 2. Say the following Optional Opening Prayer
- O Jesus, You died, but the fountain of life was poured out for souls, and the ocean of God's mercy, opened wide to the whole world. O fountain of life, God's incomprehensible mercy, encompass the whole world, and pour out Thyself upon us.
- O Blood and Water, which is shed from Your Heart O Jesus, as a wellspring of Your mercy for us, I rely on You, Jesus! (Repeat 3 times)
Step 3. Pray "Our Father".
Our Father who is in heaven, glorified be Your name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us sustenance today, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have wronged us. And do not put us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen
Step 4. Say the Hail Mary prayer
Hail Mary, full of grace, God be with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your body, Jesus. Saint Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and when we die. Amen
Step 5. Say the prayer I Believe
I believe in God, the almighty Father, Creator of heaven and earth. And of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord; conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; who suffered in the reign of Pontius Pilate; crucified, died, and buried; who descended to the waiting place; on the third day rose from the dead; who ascended into heaven, sitting at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the fellowship of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, eternal life. Amen
Step 6. Say the Eternal Father
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, as the atonement for our sins and the sins of the whole world
Step 7. Say the prayer "For the sake of suffering …" ten times on each bead tens of rosaries
For the sake of the painful passion of Jesus, show Your mercy to us and the whole world
Step 8. Repeat until all tens of rosaries are complete
Step 9. Cover with 3 times Trisagion
Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and eternal, have mercy on us and the whole world. Amen
Step 10. Say the Closing Prayer (optional)
Eternal God, within You is infinite mercy and inexhaustible treasures of mercy. Look at us willingly and increase Your mercy in us, so that in times of trouble we do not become discouraged or crushed, but with firm trust surrender ourselves to Your holy will, the Love and Mercy Himself.
Step 11. Say the Divine Mercy prayer (optional)
O Merciful God, infinite goodness, now all mankind cries out from the abyss of suffering for your mercy-your mercy, O God; and from anguish we cry out. The Most Gracious God will not reject us outcasts! O Lord, Your goodness is beyond our understanding, who knows our suffering deeply, and knows that we will not be able to reach You by our own strength, we ask You; bestow us with Your Mercy and have mercy on us, so that we may carry out Your Will throughout our lives and at the time of our death. Let the power of Your mercy protect us from the arrows of the enemy that hinder our salvation, so that we may have faith, as Your children wait for Your coming-on the day You choose. And we hope to get all that Jesus promised even though we don't deserve it. Because Jesus is our Hope: through His merciful Heart like a gate we are able to go to heaven
Step 12. Close with the Sign of the Cross
Tips
- As with the Rosary, although it is easier to do with a rosary (and this Chaplet is easier to recite with a fifty-bead rosary than a ten-bead rosary or a ring rosary), this prayer can be said without a rosary. You can use one hand to count five tens and the other hand to count ten prayers with two five-finger loops. However, the rosary will make things easier for you.
- There is also a Novena of Divine Mercy which is traditionally prayed between Good Friday and the Feast of Divine Mercy (the first Sunday after Easter).
- Like the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet is an indulgence (see Marian's website for details); however, this prayer is NOT magic. Meditate on what you are praying for, and try to get closer to God and further away from sin while praying this Chaplet.
- Another way to meditate when praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet is to focus on the Five Sacred Wounds of Jesus: on His head, His side, His feet and hands (or the wounds on His side, two wounds on His hands, two on His feet). -His). Pray every tens while contemplating the sins we have committed with our head (mind), our hands, our feet, etc. For example, we sin by gossiping with our mouth and mind, we sin by hitting our hands and feet, we sin by envying our eyes, etc.
- Dedicate every ten to someone who really needs prayer, such as a sick relative.
Warning
Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet is a good way to remind ourselves that God is really God, and we are not like him, that we need Jesus Christ as our Savior. This prayer is also a reminder that even though we have all sinned, God is always ready and willing to forgive us, but that doesn't mean we can go and sin again
