Step
Method 1 of 2: Cleaning Nails (Quick Way)
Step 1. Clean the dirt that is under the nails
Use the prying end of the nail clipper to clean the nail from the dirt underneath. Do this in a bathroom with good lighting so you can see your nails clearly.
- In general, it will be easier to clean dirt under your nails if you do it before washing your hands when your hands are dry.
- Avoid cleaning your nails with a pencil because the tips can make your nails even more dirty.
Step 2. Wash your hands
Use a mild, natural soap and warm water to wash your hands. You don't need to focus too much on your nails, just wash your hands.
It is a good idea to wash your hands regularly with mild soap. Soaps with parabens that are too strong can make your nails brittle. Also, alcohol-based hand sanitizers can weaken your nails. Try to wash your hands with special nail soap
Step 3. Soak your fingers in a bowl of warm, soapy water for 3 minutes
Soak your fingertips (not your entire hand) in the water and let it cool down. Make sure that the water is not too warm or hot. Just use water at a comfortable temperature.
Soaking your nails can make them smooth, reducing the risk of them getting damaged during the cleaning process
Step 4. Use a nail brush to scrub the nail surface
After soaking, scrub the entire nail, including the underside. After that, dry your hands.
If you don't have a special brush for cleaning your nails, use a clean toothbrush to scrub your nails
Step 5. Remove nail polish if necessary
Use a strong nail polish remover and a cotton ball to remove the nail polish by rubbing it from the cuticle to the tips of the nails and the sides of the nails. Pay attention to the nail polish that is still stuck and then remove if necessary.
The nail polish remover will dry on its own, but you can also use a tissue or a dry cotton ball to help scrub your nails after using a wet cotton ball
Step 6. Wash your hands again
Wash and dry your hands again, but don't rub. If you like, apply a hand cream or continue your nail cleaning routine.
Make sure that the entire nail is even. File or trim nails if necessary. After that, finish the nail look with a clear coat of nail polish to strengthen the nails
Method 2 of 2: Cleaning Nails (Deep Cleaning)
Step 1. Add baking soda to whiten nails
If you want healthy, strong, and clean nails, make a paste mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Mix 2 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. Apply the paste mixture on the surface and under the nails then wash and dry.
- Apply the paste once a week to make your nails white and shiny, especially after using dark nail polish.
- Alternatively, use whitening toothpaste in the same way. If you're not interested in making the paste mixture above, the active ingredients in toothpaste generally work like the paste mixture.
Step 2. Use a moisturizer every week
To keep nails smooth, not cracked, and damaged, use a moisturizer regularly, such as aloe vera, cocoa butter lotion, or natural oils such as olive or coconut. These natural ingredients won't change the appearance of your nails, but will keep them smooth and soft for a week.
Step 3. Treat yellowed nails with a squeeze of lemon juice or tea tree oil
If you have yellowed nails from smoking, nail polish, or a fungal infection, the stain will be difficult to remove. Therefore, use tea tree oil and lemon juice to clean and restore the color of your nails. Tea tree oil is a natural fungicide with antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, while lemon juice or lemon essential oil contains citric acid which functions to whiten nails like they used to.
If you have yellow nails, use a dropper and drop a small amount of tea tree oil on each nail and leave it on for 5 minutes and then rinse. Use lemon juice in the same way then rinse and clean your hands as usual
Step 4. Use a denture cleaner to clean your nails
It may sound a bit strange, but the tablets for cleaning dentures are high enough in citric acid and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) that they can be used to clean, whiten, and improve the appearance of nails. Instead of soaking your dentures, soak your nails.
Step 5. Try using apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is high in malic acid and acetic acid. The acid has cleansing and antifungal properties that can help whiten nails and prevent nails from infection and discoloration. Dissolve equal amounts of vinegar with clean water and then soak your nails for up to 20 minutes.
Step 6. Use supplements to strengthen nails
There are so many misconceptions about natural remedies to strengthen nails. However, a sure way to do this is to take supplements in your diet. The only supplement that has been proven to strengthen nails is biotin, whose effects are only visible after 6 months of use.
Most natural remedies, such as using garlic or eating more protein, will not help nails grow faster and stronger
Step 7. Take a break from using nail polish
If you use nail polish regularly, you can damage and weaken your nails in the long run even if you clean them thoroughly. It would be better if you let your nails restore their natural strength and color for a year without using nail polish for 1 or 2 months.
- Instead of using nail polish, pamper your nails by applying a homemade cleanser and bleach to restore the natural look of your nails.
- Applying clear nail polish before applying colored nail polish is also important so that the nails are not easily stained.
Tips
- Don't bite your nails. Nail biting can weaken nails. In addition, this habit is very addictive and looks ugly. Therefore, paint your nails with clear nail polish so they don't taste good. Shorten your nails or get a nice manicure so you don't bite them.
- Clean your nails regularly with olive oil and lemon juice to get nails that are naturally shiny, long and healthy.
- To lengthen nails, massage the underside of the nail to stimulate blood flow when applying lotion or oil.
- Protect your nails. If you paint your nails with colored nail polish, be sure to coat the colored nail polish with clear nail polish (before and after applying colored nail polish). Reapply clear nail polish daily and wear gloves when doing things, like cleaning.
- To lengthen your nails, apply a coat of clear nail polish over your manicure daily for 5-7 days. Paint the edges of the nails to protect the tips. Remove and clean the nail polish as described above.
- Don't expose your nails to too much water or chemicals, such as cleaning fluids.
- Push the cuticles back to prevent hangnails.
Warning
- Be careful when cutting and cleaning nails. Don't cut too fast so you don't cut and bleed and don't insert the nail picker directly into the meat. Be careful.
- Sometimes nail polish can be sticky. Practice painting your nails and polishing your nails on a rag. If you're bad at painting your nails, ask a friend to do it.
- When flattening and cutting cuticles, do so slowly and don't puncture the skin as this can hurt and look different from the others.
