Ocelots are passive and shy mobs in the game Minecraft, and live in a jungle biome. Ocelots do not attack players, but attack chickens to eat. Prior to Minecraft Java Edition 1.14 and Bedrock Edition 1.8, you could tame and turn an ocelot into a cat by feeding it raw fish. In the latest Minecraft, the ocelot will not be able to turn into a pet cat just by feeding it. However, you can find stray cats in the countryside to tame and keep as pets using the same method.

Step 1. Make a fishing rod (fishing rod)

You can make a fishing rod from 3 sticks and 2 ropes which you can get by killing spiders. Prepare a crafting table, then place the sticks diagonally from the top left to the bottom right, then place the rope on the left vertically.

Step 2. Go fishing

You can fish for raw fish. Place the fishing rod on the toolbar, then retrieve it by pressing the appropriate number on the keyboard (or pressing the left and right trigger buttons on the game console). Stand next to a body of water, then toss the hook by clicking or pressing the right trigger button. Click or press the right trigger button again when the bobber on your hook sinks. You must have at least 5 fish, and maybe 20 to attract ocelots.

Fish should not be cooked. Ocelots are only interested in raw fish

Step 3. Look for the ocelot

Ocelots are in the forest biome, with a yellow body and black spots.

In the latest Minecraft, you can't turn an ocelot into a pet cat by taming it. However, you can find stray cats in the countryside to tame and keep as pets. You can tame a cat with the same steps

Step 4. Wait for the cat or ocelot to come closer

This is a key condition, and you won't be able to tame the ocelot if you don't. If you approach a cat or ocelot, these animals will think that you are chasing them and run away. Also, if you corner and trap an ocelot, it will not turn tame.

  • If you're handling raw fish, the ocelot is more likely to come close.
  • Never frighten the ocelot in any way.
  • Do this in an area that has plenty of room for the ocelot to run around. Your character must be in a location that has a horizontal block area of at least 7x7. Areas like this make the ocelot feel safe, not trapped.
  • Taming cannot be done if there are mobs attacking at the same time. never ever there are chickens or other animals in the place.

Step 5. Hold the raw fish

Place the raw fish on the toolbar, then hold the fish by pressing the appropriate numbers on the keyboard or pressing the right and left trigger buttons on the game controller.

Step 6. Approach the ocelot slowly and stealthily

Ocelots are very easily frightened.

  • You should walk at a normal pace if you have to move closer to keep up with the ocelot's speed, but don't get too close to the animal. Only use walking to approach the ocelot, then stop moving.
  • Never look directly at an ocelot when you are trying to tame it. This means that you have to move the crosshair icon away from the animal.

Step 7. Wait for the ocelot to approach

If the ocelot turns and faces you, it may move closer.

  • Remain standing still whenever possible. This is the best method for attracting ocelots.
  • If you want, try sneaking––this can work without disturbing the ocelot. (Try pressing the sneak button, while setting the mouse sensitivity to a low setting).

Step 8. Stay still when the ocelot is 5 blocks away from your character

Continue to hold the raw fish without moving or looking directly at the ocelot.

Wait for the ocelot to look at you and approach with a bit of fear. When the situation is right, the ocelot will slowly walk towards you

Step 9. Place the shot icon on the cat or ocelot, then give it your raw fish

To feed the ocelot, right-click or press the left trigger button on the game controller.

Use right click repeatedly and quickly without jerking the camera or moving. Any movement can frighten the ocelot before you can tame it

Step 10. Continue feeding until a heart appears above the ocelot

If a heart appears above the cat or ocelot, you have successfully tamed it. You may have to do a few trials to successfully tame a cat or ocelot.

  • A tamed ocelot won't run away from you.
  • Cats that have been tamed will not be afraid of humans. This animal will often meow and purr. The cat will follow you as you walk around and sit up if prompted (by right-clicking or pressing the controller's left trigger button).
  • Cats will sit all over the place (including the crate). This can be very annoying because the crate won't be able to open if the cat doesn't leave.
  • Cats and ocelots can ward off creepers (a type of enemy monster).
  • Taming 2 ocelots or cats in close proximity can make these animals breed.

Tips

  • If your character dies but the cat doesn't, this animal will either teleport to the bed, or spawn (reappear) with you.
  • To tame a cat or ocelot, you will have to do a few trials. If you are impatient, you may end up chasing or trapping the ocelot. If this is done, you will not be able to tame it. This taming process does train patience.
  • Cats will usually hang around and never want to sit for long periods of time. These animals can be tempted to attack chickens, roam around, or make trouble.
  • If you stare directly at the ocelot through the transparent block, it won't run away. This can be useful for finding the right way of taming.
  • Use Creative mode so you can tame the ocelot more easily.
  • If you want to have 2 cats immediately, use ocelot eggs for spawning (spawn). Point the shot icon at the cat, then press the button for spawning. After that, you will get one kitten.
  • Don't move, and stay still!
  • Never chase an ocelot while you are trying to tame it. This made the ocelot run away. Let the ocelot approach you.
  • You can tame cats and ocelots with any fish, as long as they're raw.
  • Take the cat out during the day and on surfaces. Use cats and wolves to mine, or at night.

Warning

  • Only adult cats can swim. Kittens (born from 2 cats) will sink quickly. The cat will follow you into the water. So, if you have a kitten, don't take it anywhere.
  • Cats are never afraid of danger. Because of this, you can lose your newly tamed cat if you're not careful. For example, a cat may walk too close to a cactus and get pricked by its spines. These animals can also walk too close to lava or fire, and set them on fire. Cats can also walk in the middle of battle and be hit by arrows or punches unconsciously.
  • Be careful when you hit something. Cats can die if you bump into them by accident.
  • You should not keep chickens near forest biomes, unless you really want to lure ocelots. This animal will go to great lengths to steal your chicken.
