Lentil sprouts are a good choice for enjoying lentils and are grown as easily as other sprouts. The taste is similar to the taste of fresh peas. You can add lentil sprouts to salads that are usually topped with sprouts and also put on sandwiches with a dressing, such as hummus. You can also enjoy it by eating it straight.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Preparing the Lentils
Step 1. Choose the lentils to germinate
You can use whole brown, green, or red lentils.
Step 2. Wash the lentils thoroughly
Put the lentils into a sieve or fine sieve, then wash under running water. Get rid of dirt that sticks to the lentils.
Method 2 of 3: Soaking the Lentils
Step 1. Place the lentils in a large clean jar
Fill the jar with strong warm water.
Step 2. Close the jar
Cover the top of the jar with gauze or cheesecloth. Secure the cover with a rubber band or tightly tied thread. Don't try to cover the jar with a solid lid.
Step 3. Soak the lentils
Leave the jar in a warm place for one night. The lentils should be soaked for at least 8 hours.
The water heater cupboard or the cooking section of the kitchen can serve as a warm place to encourage the lentils to germinate
Step 4. Drain the lentils
Pour in the water the next day. Keep the gauze in place while pouring the water (to keep the lentils in the jar). Flip the jar over, then drain. The easiest way to do this is to leave it in a strainer or similar kitchen utensil.
Method 3 of 3: Germinating Lentils
Step 1. Let the germination process take place
Once drained, store the jar in a warm place lying down. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Step 2. Rinse and dry the lentils regularly
Every day you should take the lentils out of the jar and rinse them well. This process is useful for moisturizing the lentils and helping them to continue to germinate, then grow. Remove any lentils that haven't germinated (not yet started growing) and put the sprouts back in the jar to keep them growing.
Step 3. Use the sprouts when they are ripe enough
Sprouts are ready to eat when they reach 3 cm in length. Usually sprouts will grow to that length after 2 to 3 days after sprouting.
Step 4. Use as desired
Lentil sprouts can be used in a variety of ways, such as in stews and soups, stir-fries, salad fillings or as part of salad sandwiches. Or, you can eat it as a snack.
