3 Ways to Be an MC and Rap Right

The MC (Master of Ceremony) is the person we want to see when we watch a hip-hop concert. If you love hip-hop and dream of performing on stage performing original lyrics that can get the audience excited and rocking, learn to develop the style and technique to become the best rapper you can be, and hang out with talented people. See step 1 for more information.

Method 1 of 3: Developing Techniques

Step 1. Listen to as much hip-hop as you can. You can't be a novelist without reading a novel, can you?

That's why you have to immerse yourself in hip-hop music if you want to learn to MC properly. An MC will be the host and microphone controller, so you have to be the most proficient rapper on stage. Listen to the Dirty South rap sub-stream, New York boom-bap, traditional rap, West Coast gangsta, listen to the types of rap you don't like, even classic rap. Start learning it, because it's the best homework you can possibly get.

If you're interested in storytelling, listen to Raekwon, DMX, Nas, and Slick Rick for his skills in creating catchy lyrics from a verse/rhyme.
If you like wordplay about skewed imagery and streams of consciousness, listen to Ghostface Killah, Assop Rock, and Lil Wayne for their mastery of catching you off guard with whimsical and surprising rhymes.
If you like hip-hop music that grabs a lot of attention, and has a catchy chorus and unforgettable flow, listen to Rakim, Freddie Gibbs, and Eminem.

Step 2. Write a number of poems

No one wants to hear repurposed rhymes or another rapper's weak lyrics corrected, no matter how cool you look or how much money you make. The place to start to become a great MC is by trying to write the most creative, unexpected, and pleasant rhythms possible.

Buy a rhyme dictionary and improve the created verse to make it more cool and interesting. Avoid using words that are too easy to understand or cliché to include in poetry.
Try writing ten new poems a day, even if you're not used to composing songs. The lyrics may develop into a song, or you'll have a footing to start when you've found a beat you really like or want to rock.

Step 3. Practice your rhythm

The song is impossible to play if the lyrics and rhythm cannot be adjusted, even if it is capable of composing verse that can be published immediately. Rappers who can stay on the beat tend to be more successful than those who compose lyrics well.

Head to the YouTube website and check out other rappers singing favorite beats in freestyle. In every major rap song, there are countless other rappers who use their beats in freestyle singing. This is a good way to learn the different styles of singing

Step 4. Listen to the many beats of the song

Spend a lot of time listening to the beat you're trying to sing, letting the notes sink into your mind before forcing awkward lyrics into them. Play with different rhyme schemes and try to follow each beat of the note. There are a number of different ways to get into a beat and it's best not to follow every beat you hear.

Find a producer who creates the beats you like and use the beat every chance you get. Who knows, it can develop into a good working relationship

Step 5. Do a freestyle rap

The best MCs are proficient freestyle rappers, who are able to spontaneously compose catchy rhymes. Proficiency in freestyle rap doesn't just happen, you're not born with it. You can practice developing a stack of rhyming words that can be diverted, learning to adapt variations to patterns that have developed spontaneously.

Write down the poems that have been made. If you get a good ending, you can find a suitable sentence to start with, as opposed to using a good sentence as a starting point.
Just come up with rhyme ideas. When alone, stop thinking about what you are doing and start rhyming. Don't worry about sounding stupid or unreasonable, as long as no one is around. If you rap freestyle continuously without missing a beat for five minutes, you're likely to find at least a few good lines to work with later.

Method 2 of 3: Developing Your Own Style

Step 1. Adjust to reality

If you're a teenager from a suburban area, rapping about your global cocaine-trafficking empire might not be a great idea. It's not that the lyrics created can't be dramatized, but on a certain level, it's very important to look more natural. Other people have to believe if the words spoken are from the heart and are no longer bearable.

Even rappers like Riff-Raff and Die Antwoord, whose abilities are often doubted because of being “a laughing stock”, are enterprising people who take their skills and music seriously, and use social media and opinions about hip-hop to their advantage. In addition, they can do freestyle rap.
Music always comes first, of course, but reality has to influence how you look. Come up with a fresh look that represents your music visually and will keep others interested. Look cool.

Step 2. Be a unique MC

It's hard to get anyone to listen to your songs if you don't have anything to say or add to your hip-hop music. You don't have to be like Shakespeare, but you do have to be able to create a hip-hop song that's catchy and sticks in people's minds, and combines the words and tunes that everyone wants to hear.

Listen to lots of rap songs and find the gaps. Make a rap with a point of view on a hot topic that no other rapper has ever used. Use topics that other rappers don't dare to play with. Explore territories that have never been touched by them.
Sing a rap about where you come from and use the things around it as a reference. Although he often raps about traditional bandit rap tropes, Freddie Gibbs is unique in that he is essentially a flawless rapper who delivers songs about the city of Gary, Indiana, a unique and unexpected place to create rap songs. Step 3. Create a group with the distinctive style of each member

An MC will be the host, microphone set, and perhaps the most proficient rapper of the group, but in order to really stand out, you'll need a little help. In addition to skills, you will also need:

A DJ who understands how to scratch, mix, and perform music. For instrumental support, find someone who understands your music and is good with discs, someone who knows how to maintain a performance when on stage. Hype-man is not a major rap singer, but a reliable Hype-man has charisma and skills on stage that are very useful for getting a cool appearance.
Complementary MCs. The Wu-Tang Clan was founded on the idea that one skilled MC is good enough, but eight MCs would make it great, especially if uniqueness and unexpected style and flow blend into a song. Find other rappers with slightly different styles and personalities to collaborate on a performance, giving you an extra element to show off.

Method 3 of 3: Doing a Show

Step 1. Get the audience excited and rocking

An MC is the main attraction. Master the stage and get the audience excited about the show. The DJ has to keep playing the beat, the hype-man is at your disposal, and the pressure begins.

Joke with the audience and engage them. Cue the DJ to lower the beat and let the audience sing after leading him to the chorus.
You have to like the music you make if you want your audience to like it too. Move around, feel the beat of the beat, and act like you're excited to be on stage. If you just stand still on the microphone stand and look like you're bored, the audience will show the same thing.

Step 2. Be confident when performing on stage

If you have prepared well, try to feel confident in your musical abilities so that you can show your best performance to the audience. This is the time to shine. Give them an appearance they will never forget.

Be sure to memorize all the lyrics of the song and practice using the microphone, so you can feel confident that all the technical aspects of your stage performance will go smoothly without any major distractions. Part of a performer's job is to be in place before the stage starts to make sure everything is set up and going according to plan. Don't be a fake rock star who shies away from pre-show responsibilities. Be a professional singer.
Always come on stage awake and well rested. Save the partying for after the show.

Step 3. Sing with a clear, firm, and loud articulation

It will be difficult for the audience to like your music if the singing sounds slurred, too small, or slovenly. Rap doesn't have to sound like one of those grown-up characters in the old cartoon Peanuts. Throw the song out loud and make sure it's loud enough to be heard throughout the room.

If you're having trouble maintaining loudness while performing, practice reading magazines and books aloud to naturally get your voice louder. This may annoy your roommate, but it's worth trying to raise your voice as needed when performing on stage

Step 4. Keep in touch with fans

Actively engage with a growing fan base, both during shows and on the internet. The MC will be the face of the music group so they have to take the publicity side of rap seriously. Stay outside after the show to meet the audience and “sell” whatever they have, be friendly and open to them.
