Sometimes enjoying the night accompanied by a dim and romantic candlelight is a brilliant idea. But when morning comes, you will find the unpleasant sight of dripping dried wax clumping on your carpet. If you're looking to find out how to get rid of clumps of wax on a carpet, then this is where you'll find it.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using an Iron
Step 1. Heat the iron and place it near the area affected by the wax clump
Set the temperature of the iron to the lowest heat level and do not use steam if your iron has a steam iron function.
Step 2. Using a dull knife, scrape off as much wax as possible
You can use the blunt side of a butter knife. You can do this while waiting for the iron to heat up.
Step 3. Once you have scraped off the wax clumps with a knife, place the cement paper or tissue paper on the carpet that is still exposed to the wax residue and then place the iron on the paper
-
Gently iron the top of the paper, as you would iron a shirt, and make sure the paper or carpet doesn't burn. The heat of the iron will melt the remaining wax and the paper will absorb the melted wax.
Step 4. While you are ironing, adjust the position of the paper so that the wax can be absorbed by the dry part of the paper so that the remaining wax that is still attached to the carpet can be completely absorbed
Step 5. Check for any stains on the carpet
If you find stains or discoloration on the carpet:
- Wipe clean with a white cloth or cloth moistened with alcohol. Be careful not to overspray the alcohol.
- Continue to rub with a cloth and alcohol until the stain or color spots are no longer visible on the carpet.
- Cover the alcohol-soaked area with a clean cloth and cover it with a book or slightly heavy object overnight to absorb any excess alcohol on the carpet.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Match and a Spoon
Do this if you don't have an iron. This method still uses the same basic technique as cleaning wax with an iron, but the difference is that this method uses other household tools.
Step 1. Cool the remaining lumps of wax with ice cubes
Place four or five ice cubes in a plastic bag and place them over the wax clumps until they freeze.
Step 2. Using a knife, scrape off as much wax as possible without damaging the carpet
Step 3. Cover the remaining wax with oil absorbent paper
Step 4. Heat the back of the unused spoon for 5 to 10 seconds with a lighter
You can use wooden matches, but it will be easier if you use oil or gas lighters, besides that your hands will not burn and oil lighters will not produce any remaining embers from burning wood.
Step 5. While the spoon is still hot, place it on the oil absorbent paper covering the remaining wax
Make sure you place the spoon right where the wax is left on. Wait for the paper to absorb the remaining melted wax.
Step 6. With the non-waxed side of the absorbent paper, repeat the steps above by heating the spoon first and placing the spoon on top of the paper and the waxed area
Step 7. Clean stains/stains with alcohol or carpet detergent
Use alcohol (the method is explained above) or carpet detergent to remove any remaining stains left by wax on the carpet.
- Mix 1.5 tablespoons of carpet detergent with 2 cups of warm water.
- Dip a cloth in the mixture of detergent and water then wring out and cover the remaining wax stains on the carpet with the cloth.
- Gently rub the rug with the cloth from the outside in, being careful not to spread the stain to the rest of the rug.
-
Repeat until the stain is completely clean.
Tips
- Cool the clumps of wax with ice, scrape them off with a dull knife, place the cement paper over the area affected by the wax residue and then iron. After that clean the carpet with warm soapy water.
- Seek the opinion of an expert carpet cleaner if your carpet is made of a very sensitive material such as straw or wool.
