This wikiHow teaches you how to remove the toolbar that you installed yourself in your browser. However, this step is not intended to remove toolbars run by malware. You can follow these steps for most desktop browsers, including Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, and Safari.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Google Chrome
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
The program is marked by a red, yellow, green, and blue ball icon.
Step 2. Click
It's in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window. Once clicked, a drop-down menu will appear.
Step 3. Select More tools
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Once selected, a pop-out menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Click Extensions
This option appears in the pop-out menu. The “Extensions” page will open once the option is clicked.
Step 5. Click the trash can icon
This icon is to the right of the toolbar that you want to delete.
You may need to scroll through the screen to find the toolbar you want to delete
Step 6. Click the Remove button when prompted
After that, the extension will be removed from Google Chrome.
Step 7. Close and reopen Google Chrome
Once Chrome finishes loading on restart, the toolbar is gone.
Method 2 of 5: Firefox
Step 1. Open Firefox
The program is marked by a blue globe icon surrounded by an orange fox.
Step 2. Click the button
It's in the upper-right corner of the Firefox window. After that, a drop-down window will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Add-ons
The selection with the puzzle piece icon is displayed in the drop-down window.
Step 4. Click the Extensions tab
This tab is on the left side of the page (Windows) or at the top of the pop-up window (Mac).
If you can't find the toolbar that you want to remove, look for it in the " Plug-ins ”.
Step 5. Click the Remove button
This button is to the right of the toolbar that you want to delete. After that, the bar will be immediately removed from the Firefox browser.

Step 6. Close and restart Firefox
Once Firefox finishes loading, the toolbar is gone from the browser.
Method 3 of 5: Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Open Microsoft Edge
The icon resembles the letter "e" in dark blue.
Step 2. Click
It's in the upper-right corner of the Edge window. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Extensions
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Select toolbar extension
Click the toolbar extension that you want to remove. After that, a pop-up menu will be displayed.
Step 5. Click Remove
This option is displayed in the pop-up menu. After that, the toolbar will be removed from Edge.
Step 6. Close and restart Microsoft Edge
Once Edge finishes restarting, the toolbar interface will be removed.
Method 4 of 5: Internet Explorer
Step 1. Open Internet Explorer
The program is marked by a light blue “e” icon surrounded by a yellow ribbon.
Step 2. Click “Settings”
This selection icon appears in the upper-right corner of the window. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Manage add-ons
It's in the middle of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Click the Toolbars and Extensions tab
This tab is on the left side of the “Manage Add-Ons” window.
Step 5. Select the toolbar extension
Click the bar that you want to remove from Internet Explorer. Once clicked, the bar will be selected and the context options will be displayed in the lower right corner of the window.
Step 6. Click the Remove button or Disable.
You may not be able to completely remove the toolbar, depending on the type of toolbar you want to remove (eg a toolbar officially licensed from Microsoft). However, you can still disable it.
Toolbars from third parties can be completely removed by clicking the “ Remove ”.
Step 7. Close and restart Internet Explorer
After Internet Explorer finishes restarting, the toolbar is gone.
Method 5 of 5: Safari
Step 1. Open Safari
The program is marked by a blue compass icon and appears in the Mac's Dock, at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Click Safari
It's in the top-left corner of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
If this menu is not visible, click the Safari window to force it to appear
Step 3. Click Preferences…
It's at the top of the drop-down menu " Safari " After that, a new window will open.
Step 4. Click the Extensions tab
This tab is to the right of the row of options at the top of the pop-up window.
Step 5. Click the Uninstall button which is next to the toolbar
Make sure you click the button next to the toolbar that you want to delete. Once clicked, a pop-up window will be displayed.
Step 6. Click the Uninstall button when prompted
After that, the toolbar will be removed from Safari.
Step 7. Close and restart Safari
After that, the toolbar has been removed from the browser.
Tips
- If the browser displays the option " Disable " Besides " Delete " or " Remove ”, you can disable the toolbar instead of deleting it right away.
- You can remove the Google Chrome bookmarks bar (" Bookmarks ") by going to the “ ⋮", click " Settings ”, scrolls to the " Appearance " section, and clicks the blue " Show bookmarks bar " switch. If the switch turns gray, the marker bar is disabled.
