Are there scratches that bother you on the glass surface? If they are smaller than the thickness of your fingernail, scratches on the glass can be removed with home remedies such as toothpaste or nail polish. First, clean the glass surface, wipe the cleaning agent with a microfiber cloth, then rinse, and your glass surface will be like new again!

Method 1 of 4: Using Toothpaste
Step 1. Clean the glass surface
Use a clean cloth to clean the glass surface. Make sure the entire surface of the glass is clean of dirt, then allow it to dry before trying to remove the scratch.
Step 2. Wet a microfiber cloth
Place a clean, lint-free cloth under a lukewarm tap. Squeeze the rag until no more dripping water remains.
Dirt on the rag, including lint or dust, will rub against the glass surface, adding to the scratch
Step 3. Pour a small amount of toothpaste on the surface of the cloth
Press the toothpaste package, remove the contents until it is about the length of the little finger. Pay close attention to the amount of toothpaste you use. You can add more toothpaste when removing glass scratches.
Regular white toothpaste (nongel), especially one containing baking soda is the best choice for removing scratches
Step 4. Apply toothpaste to the glass surface
Apply the rag and toothpaste to the scratched area. Wipe the cloth in a circular motion for 30 seconds.
Step 5. Apply toothpaste again
Check and observe the glass surface. You may have to apply toothpaste several times to fade the appearance. Repeat the steps above, pouring the toothpaste onto the cloth and rubbing it into the scratches on the glass in a circular motion for 30 seconds.
Step 6. Clean the glass surface
Prepare a new clean cloth, then wet it with tap water. Wring out the cloth, then use it to clean the glass surface. This step will make the glass surface shiny again.
Do not press too hard on the surface of the glass or wipe the rag in a circle to prevent the toothpaste from being pushed further into the glass
Method 2 of 4: Using Baking Soda
Step 1. Clean the glass surface
Use a microfiber cloth to prevent debris from getting into the scratch. Wet a cloth with lukewarm water, and wash the glass surface as usual.
Step 2. Mix baking soda and water in equal proportions
You only need a tablespoon each of baking soda and water, or even less. Instead, put both ingredients in a bowl so that they can be stirred with a spoon until evenly distributed. Once the two ingredients are mixed, you will get a pudding-like paste.
Step 3. Take the baking soda paste with a rag
Again, use a new cloth. To make it easier, try wrapping a rag around your finger and pressing it into the paste. This way, you can take quite a bit of pasta.
Step 4. Rub the baking soda paste in a circular motion
Paste the paste on the glass surface and then remove the scratches by wiping the cloth in a circle. Do this for at most 30 seconds while watching for signs of fading.
Step 5. Rinse the scratched area
Rinse the glass surface or wipe with a new cloth. Wet a cloth with lukewarm water and rub it over the scratched area. Make sure the remaining baking soda paste is completely removed.
Method 3 of 4: Using a Metal Shine
Step 1. Clean the glass surface
Prepare a microfiber cloth by wetting it with lukewarm water. Squeeze out excess water on the rag until it no longer drips. Use a cloth to clean the dirt on the glass, then allow it to dry.
Metal polishes are suitable for removing scratches on fragile surfaces such as car windshields
Step 2. Wrap a microfiber cloth around your finger
Choose a rag that doesn't leave lint on the glass surface. You can also use cotton balls as another option.
Step 3. Wet the rag with the polish
Dip a rag, or press down on the gloss pack until the contents slide a little onto your finger. Limit the use of polish, as too much can increase the number of scratches.
The type of metal polish that contains cerium oxide works the fastest to remove scratches. Meanwhile, jewelry polish is the most expensive option
Step 4. Apply the polish to the scratches
Apply the rag and polish to the scratch. Rub in a circular motion for 30 seconds. Scratches on the glass should fade or even disappear altogether. Do not add any more polish, as this can damage the glass.
Step 5. Clean the polish
Use a clean cloth and dampen it with lukewarm water. Wipe the rag over the scratched area to remove any remaining metal polish.
Method 4 of 4: Using Nail Polish on Separate Scratches
Step 1. Clean the glass surface
Clean the glass surface as you normally would, for example with a glass cleaner or a damp microfiber cloth. Be sure to remove all dirt from the surface of the glass, then allow it to dry.
Step 2. Dip the brush in the nail polish
Only use clear nail polish to remove scratches. Dip the paint brush into the bottle. That way, the brush will be coated with a small amount of paint to apply to the scratched area.
Step 3. Apply paint to the scratched surface
Run the brush over the scratched surface. Try as much as possible to minimize the contact of the paint with the surrounding glass surface. The nail polish will flow out of the brush and into the scratch, removing it.
Step 4. Let the nail polish dry for an hour
Allow the nail polish to soak into the scratch. Check again after an hour to clean it.
Step 5. Pour the liquid nail polish remover onto the surface of the microfiber cloth
Tilt the bottle of nail polish remover on a clean rag until it drips a little. You only need a small amount of nail polish remover to remove any remaining polish.
Step 6. Wipe the rag over the scratched surface
Use a rag to wipe the nail polish remover liquid on the scratched surface. After making sure all the remaining nail polish is removed, the glass surface will return to like new.
Tips
- In some cases, having someone hold the glass may make it easier for you to remove scratches and reduce the chances of you dropping and breaking them.
- Glass that has a protective coating or has a film like glasses cannot be repaired this way. For such glass, you will need to remove the protective film with a product such as Armor Etch.
- When in doubt, contact a glass manufacturer or a professional glazier.
Warning
- Do not continue to rub the scratched area as this will only exacerbate the damage to the glass.
- If your fingernail can get into the scratch, you should not use the method above to repair it. Contact a professional glazier to repair or replace the glass.
