This wikiHow teaches you how to modify a Google News page or app. Because content on Google News is offered based on your browsing history, you can't filter the stories that appear in your feed without manually deleting or requesting more specific topics or sources.

Method 1 of 2: On Desktop
Step 1. Go to the Google News page
Visit https://news.google.com/ via your computer's web browser.
Step 2. Sign in to your Google account
If not, click the Sign in ” in the top right corner of the page, enter your email address, click “ NEXT ”, enter the account password, and click the “button again NEXT ”.
Skip this step if you already see your account photo in the top-right corner of the page
Step 3. Open the menu if necessary
By default, you can see a sidebar with a list of options on the left side of the page. If not, click the button “ ☰ ” in the upper left corner of the page to display the menu.
Step 4. Change the language and area settings
Hover over the left side of the page and scroll the screen to the " Language & region " section, then follow these steps:
- Click " Languages & regions ”.
- Check the box next to the language and region options (in the format " Language | Region ").
- Click " Updates ” in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 5. Scroll the screen and click For you
This tab is at the top of the left menu. After that, a list of news from Google that has been synced with your preferences will be displayed.
Step 6. Review news options from Google
You can scroll through the list of news articles to see in full the content that Google considers relevant to you.
Step 7. Decide on the specific topic you want
If you see a topic that needs to appear in your Google News feed more often, follow these steps:
- Place the cursor on the topic link.
- Click the icon " ⋮ ” which is below the link.
- Click " More stories like this ” in the drop-down menu.
Step 8. Avoid certain topics in the future
Just like when requesting specific topics to be featured, you can also avoid certain topics in the future with these steps:
- Place the cursor on the topic link.
- Click the icon " ⋮ ” shown below the link.
- Click " Fewer stories like this ” from the drop-down menu.
Step 9. Hide all news sources
If you see a source with stories that you don't want to see or read, you can hide that news source from showing in your feed by following these steps:
- Place the cursor on the news source link.
- Click the icon " ⋮ ” shown below the link.
- Click " Hide stories from [source] ” in the drop-down menu.
Method 2 of 2: On Mobile Devices
Step 1. Open Google News
Tap the Google News app icon, which looks like green, red, yellow, and blue cards on a white background.
If you're not automatically signed in to Google News when you open the app, type in your email address and password when prompted
Step 2. Touch the For You tab
It's in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Review the news options from Google
You can browse the list of news articles to see in full the news that Google considers relevant to you.
Step 4. Decide on a specific topic that you want to see more often
To receive topics and get more news about them in the future, follow these steps:
- Touch the icon “ ⋯ ” (iPhone) or “ ⋮ ” (Android) on the right side of the topic.
- Touch " More stories like this ” in the drop-down menu.
Step 5. Avoid certain topics in the future
If you don't want to see a certain topic on the next news list, follow these steps:
- Touch the button “ ⋯ ” (iPhone) or “ ⋮ ” (Android) to the right of the topic.
- Touch " Fewer stories like this ” from the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Hide news sources from news feed
You may see news sources that need to be removed from the results page/news feed. To hide a source, follow these steps:
- Touch " ⋯ ” (iPhone) or “ ⋮ ” (Android) on the right side of the topic.
- Touch " Hide all stories from [source] ”.
Step 7. Touch the profile icon
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. After that, a pop-up menu will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Step 8. Touch Settings
It's in the middle of the pop-up menu. The account preference page will be displayed.
Step 9. Update language and regional information
If you want to change the language and/or region of the news source, follow these steps:
- Touch " Languages & regions ” (on Android devices, touch “ Preferred languages & regions ”) at the top of the page.
- Scroll down until you find the language and region you want (displayed in " Language | Region " format).
- Touch the desired language and region to select it.
Tips
- You can remove an article with an unwanted topic from Google News several times before the article or news is no longer displayed.
- When using the Google News mobile app, you can change specific settings, such as the units of calculation used (e.g. Fahrenheit to Celsius) or Google app settings (e.g. Google apps accessible to Google News) from the “ Settings ”.
