Redstone lamps are used for better lighting within your building structure; This lamp looks more modern than the primitive torch. However, to turn it on once it's created, you'll need to use a redstone current, as it doesn't light itself.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Finding Materials
Step 1. Mining for underground redstone
You'll need it to make redstone dust for the lamp.
Step 2. Find a glowstone in the Nether
Step 3. Create a glowstone block using glowstone dust
(Place the 2 x 2 glowstone dust on the crafting table).
Part 2 of 4: Making a Redstone Lamp
Step 1. Place the glowstone block and 4 redstone dusters into the crafting table
Set as follows:
- Place the glowstone block in the center of the crafting table.
- Place one redstone duster on top and another one under the glowstone block and one duster on each side. (This leaves the four outer corners of the crafting table blank.)
Step 2. Shift click or drag the redstone light to your inventory
Part 3 of 4: Placing the Redstone Lamp
Step 1. Holding the lamp, right-click where you want to place it
Your lamp will stick in place.
You can create all sorts of impressive arrangements with redstone lights, such as lighting the ceiling, lining up along the walls and lighting the floor
Part 4 of 4: Turning on the Lights
As long as the redstone lamp gets power, it will light up.
Step 1. Apply redstone to the lamp
To do so, you have many options, such as:
- Lever (continuous) - can be placed at the top
- Redstone torch (continuous) - placed anywhere near a lamp will light it (don't place it in a lamp)
- Button (short-lived) - can be placed at the top
- Tripwire (short-lived - as soon as you leave the room, the lights go out)
- Pressure plate (short life, as soon as you leave the room, the light will turn off) - can be placed on the top
- Detector rail (this can be useful for lighthouses and roller coasters).
Tips
- Redstone circuits take up a lot of space. If you have a very simple redstone lamp attached to a lever or redstone torch, you can hide the torch or lever and you will still have good lighting (you can place it behind a wall, above a ceiling, under a floor, etc., in whatever space you have). However, some people prefer to attach the lamp to a lever, so that when you pull the lever, the lamp can be turned on and off, which means that you leave the lever clearly visible.
- Redstone lamps look beautiful in your home.
- Redstone lamps can melt snow and ice.
- A broken redstone lamp will produce another redstone lamp, instead of splitting into elements.
