The Redstone Torch is a crafted item in Minecraft that provides a dim and eerie red glow, as well as a power source on the Redstone circuit. If you are interested in simple ambient lighting or powering complex circuitry, you should know how to assemble and use this item. See Step 1 below to get started.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Assembling a Redstone Torch From Scratch
Step 1. Get the Redstone
The most important ingredient for making a Redstone torch flash is Redstone. Redstone can be obtained in various ways, but the easiest way is to mine it from Redstone ore. Redstone ore occurs naturally underground and can be mined with an iron pickaxe or better equipment. Each Redstone ore block yields 4-5 Redstones. Redstone can also be obtained in other ways for example:
- By trading with the village priest
- By killing a mage, which will drop 0-6 Redstone upon death
- By collecting Redstone dust in the temple forest, which happens naturally
- By assembling it from Redstone blocks
Step 2. Get the sticks
Just like regular torches, Redstone torches require a wooden stick to assemble. Fortunately this material is quite common because it is widely used in assembled objects. Sticks can be made from two wooden planks (on top of each other), which when combined will produce 4 sticks. Other ways to get sticks for example:
- Killing a mage, who drops 0-6 sticks after death
- On the bonus chest
Step 3. Merge Redstone and sticks via the crafting menu
If you have Redstone and sticks, open your inventory and use the crafting menu to combine them. A Redstone torch is made from one stick and one Redstone.
Be careful when using Redstone torches - because the light from Redstone torches is dimmer than normal torches, mobs can appear near you. Prepare yourself
Step 4. Having extra Redstone will create a flickering effect
You have now created a fully functional Redstone torch. However, to create the flickering effect you need an extra supply of Redstone to lay out the Redstone circuit. As such, you'll have to mine the necessary Redstone ore as needed, or obtain it through a number of available means.
Method 2 of 2: Creating a Blinking Effect
Step 1. Find a suitable wall
To be able to flash, the Redstone torch must be mounted on the wall and not planted on the floor. Find a place to attach the flashing torch. Note that the torch must be mounted on the highest block in the wall - in order for it to "blink", it must not be lower.
Also note that since you have to place the Redstone dust on top of the flaming torch block, you should be able to access the top of the wall unhindered
Step 2. Place the torch at the top of the wall
Equip the Redstone torch and attach it to the top block of the wall. To be clear, you should mount it on the side of the block at the top of the wall, not at the very top of the wall.
Step 3. Add Redstone dust to the top of the wall
Place one Redstone duster on top of the block with the Redstone torch on it. This will cause the torch (and dust) to start flashing.
Step 4. If desired, surround the Redstone dust with blocks
If Redstone dust on the walls spoils the beauty of the structure, you can hide the dust by camouflaging it in the construction of the walls. Use any block to disguise the Redstone dust. But to make a building you have to incorporate these blocks into the ceiling plan of the building.
Tips
- This torch can also be used for a kind of unstable Redstone clock.
- Use this torch to make a haunted house or something.
