Paintings are used for decoration and to hide secret rooms in the game Minecraft. Making a painting is very easy.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Finding Ingredients
Step 1. Look for wool
You will need one piece of wool. This can be obtained by shearing the sheep using scissors.
Any color of wool can be used. Currently, the hue of the wool color has no effect on the resulting painting
Step 2. Find eight sticks
It is made of wooden planks.
Method 2 of 3: Creating a Painting
Step 1. Place the wool and sticks into the crafting box
For How to Paint, set as follows:
- Place the wool in the center of the gap.
- Place 8 sticks in all remaining gaps.
Step 2. Create the painting
To move it to your inventory, shift click or drag the painting.
Method 3 of 3: Hanging the painting
Step 1. Right-click on a wall or other flat vertical surface while holding the painting
The painting will hang where you clicked. The types of paintings that will hang are completely random and you will get a different picture every time.
Paintings can only be placed on a flat vertical surface
Step 2. For the painting to fill an area:
- Mark the boundaries using solid blocks.
- Place the painting in the lower left corner.
- The painting will expand to the top right corner, trying to fill the space.
Step 3. Note that the facing direction of your painting will affect the brightness:
- Paintings placed facing north/south will be lighter.
- Paintings placed facing east/west will be darker.
Tips
- If you place the painting under a light source, it will act like a lamp and light up the room.
- You can hide a chest placed in a wall behind a painting. This is a useful way to keep your treasure hidden in multiplayer mode.
-
Paintings can fall off the wall for the following reasons:
- Anything that can be thrown at it will knock the painting off the wall. For example, snowballs, fishing floats, chicken eggs or arrows. You can take the painting and hang it again.
- Dynamite and lightning will knock the painting off the wall.
- The arrow will disappear if it hits the painting.
-
To hide a secret entrance in your building, place a door at the entrance. Open the door, then crouch using any assigned button, then right-click while holding the painting. The painting will cover the door. The shape of the painting will adjust to the shape of the door. To remember the location of the secret entrance you have created, memorize the painting. If you forget, maybe you should open a bunch of paintings and hope!
- Note: From Beta 1.2, the painting will drop if the supporting beam is removed. Thus, making the secret door would be even more difficult. Try attaching a large painting to a block next to the door. The painting will then cover the door.
- Be aware that if you try to open the door behind the painting, you may knock the painting off the wall. Take the painting and put it back in its original place when you've passed the door.
- Painting is an object that cannot be burned. This painting protects flammable blocks from fire.
