This wikiHow teaches you how to create a new Minecraft account for Minecraft Java Edition (online). In early 2021, when you sign up for Minecraft, you'll also need to sign up for a Microsoft account. If you already have a Microsoft account (including an account for Xbox), you can create a new Minecraft account by signing in through the Minecraft website. If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can sign up quickly and easily. If you already have a Mojang account, you'll still need to migrate to Microsoft at some point in order to continue playing. However, as of April 2021, the migration has not yet started.

Step

  • If you have an old Minecraft Premium account that hasn't migrated to Mojang, you won't be able to migrate to a Mojang account at this time. However, once your Mojang account has started migrating to Microsoft, you can immediately migrate to a Microsoft account.

Tips

  • If possible, use an email address that's easy to access, but doesn't use often.
  • Mojang only asks you to log into the Minecraft client and its website. Don't give out your username or password to anyone else, even if it appears that the email requesting that information is from Mojang.
