This wikiHow teaches you how to build armor in the computer version of Minecraft, Minecraft Pocket Edition on mobile, or in the console editions of Minecraft for PlayStation and Xbox. You can't make chainmail armor (chain mail, which is made of metal rings strung together to form a shirt).

Part 1 of 2: Gathering Materials for Armor
Step 1. Determine the type of armor
Some of the types of armor you can create in Minecraft include:
- Leather armor - Reduced damage by 28%. This is the weakest armor in Minecraft, but you don't need to smelt and don't need any special equipment to get it (like a pickaxe).
- iron armor - Reduces damage by 60%.
- gold armor - Reduced damage by 44%. Since the amount of iron was far greater than that of gold, making gold armor was an act that was simply a waste of time and resources.
- Diamond armor - Reduces damage by 80%. You don't need to do the smelting. This is the best armor in Minecraft, but it is very difficult to make because diamonds are a very rare material.
Step 2. Gather materials to make armor
You need 24 ingredients to make a complete set of armor:
- Skin - Get skins by killing cows. You may have to kill more or less than 24 cows, depending on the number of hides each one drops.
- Iron - Mine iron blocks (which are gray stones with orange spots) using a stone pickaxe or better. To get 24 iron ore, you must mine 24 iron blocks.
- Gold - Mine gold blocks (which are gray stones with yellow spots) using an iron pickaxe or better. To get 24 gold ore, you have to mine 24 gold blocks. Usually, the gold block was in a place deep underground.
- Diamond - Mine diamond blocks (which are gray stones with light blue spots) using a diamond pickaxe or an iron pickaxe. You need 24 diamond ores. Diamonds can be found very deep underground, and are a very rare material.
Step 3. Gather the resources needed to smelt armor materials
You'll need the following items to make gold, iron, or diamond armor:
- Cobblestone (cobblestone) - Mine 8 gray cobblestones. You need it to make a furnace.
- Fuel - You can cut 6 blocks of wood to make 24 planks, or mine at least 10 blocks of coal. Coal is a gray block with black spots.
- If you want to make diamond and leather armor, skip to the next section to make the armor.
Step 4. Open the crafting table
Right-click the crafting table (for the computer version), tap the crafting table (for Minecraft PE), or face the table, then press the left trigger button (for the console edition). A crafting table will be opened, which displays a grid of squares with dimensions of 3 x 3.
If you don't already have a crafting table, cut some wooden blocks. Use the crafting area in your inventory to make 4 planks, then build a crafting table using 4 planks laid out in a grid
Step 5. Make a furnace
Place the cobblestones in the top three squares, the bottom three squares, the far left, and the far right in the crafting table grid. Next, hold down Shift and click the furnace icon on the right side of the crafting grid to move the furnace to your inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the furnace icon which is a block of stone that has a black hole in it, then tap 1 x.
- In the console edition, scroll up to select the crafting table icon, then scroll down once, and press the button A or X.
Step 6. Place the furnace on the ground
Select the furnace in the equipment bar (equip bar), then right-click on the ground where you want it. Maybe you should move the furnace from your inventory to the toolbar first.
- In Minecraft PE, tap somewhere on the ground where you want to place the furnace.
- On the console edition, face somewhere above the ground, then press the left trigger button.
Step 7. Open the furnace
There are three boxes in the furnace window: the upper box for ore, the lower box for fuel, and the right box for the final product.
Step 8. Melt your gold or iron material
Click the stack of crafting materials needed and click the top box, then click the fuel and click the bottom box. Wait for the 24 ingredients to finish smelting, then transfer the results to your inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the crafting material (eg iron ore), then tap the " Fuel " box and tap the fuel stack. Next, tap the bar in the "Result" box to move it to your inventory.
- In the console edition, select the crafting material, then press the button triangle or Y. Select the fuel and press triangle or Y, then select the melted product and press triangle or Y.
Step 9. Close your furnace
Now you are ready to make the armor.
Part 2 of 2: Making Armor
Step 1. Open the crafting table
All the armor you want can be crafted directly in the crafting table.
Step 2. Make a helmet
Place three armor materials in the top row of the crafting grid, one in the center box on the left, and one in the middle square on the right. Next, hold down Shift and click the helmet to move it to your inventory:
- In Minecraft PE, tap the helmet icon, then tap 1 x on the right side of the screen.
- In the console edition, go to the " Armor " page by pressing the button RB or R1 three times, then scroll up or down to select the helmet type. Next, press the button X or A to make it.
Step 3. Make a chestplate
Place armor materials in all boxes except for the top center box of the crafting grid, then move the chestplate to inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the chestplate icon, then tap 1 x.
- In the console edition, scroll right to select the breastplate tab, then scroll down or up to select the desired type of breastplate. Next, press the button X or A to make it.
Step 4. Make the gaiters
Place armor materials in the far left and far right columns of the crafting grid, then place one armor material in the top center square of the crafting grid. Next, move the gaiters to inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the gaiters icon, then tap 1 x.
- In the console edition, scroll right to select the gaiter tab, scroll down or up to select the gaiter type. Next, press the button X or A to make it.
Step 5. Make the boots
Place the armor materials in the top left, top right, center left, and center right boxes on the crafting grid. Next, move the boots to inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the boots icon, then tap 1 x.
- In the console edition, scroll right to select the boots tab, then scroll down or up to select the type of boot you want. Next, press the button X or A to make it.
Step 6. Close the crafting menu
Press the Esc key (for computers), tap X (for PE), or press the button B or circle (for consoles).
Step 7. Put on your armour
Open the inventory by pressing the E key, then holding down Shift and clicking each piece of armor.
- In Minecraft PE, tap ⋯, then tap the chestplate tab on the left side of the screen, and tap each piece of armor on the left side of the screen to put it on.
- In the console edition, open the inventory by pressing the button Y or triangle, then select a piece of armor. Next, press the button Y or triangle, and repeat for all armor pieces.
Tips
- You can't mix and match the ingredients in every piece of armor, but you can mix and match multiple pieces of armor.
- Each armor has its own maximum level that can be enchanted. Gold has the highest grade at 25, while iron has the lowest grade at 9.
- Although very difficult to obtain, diamond is the most efficient material when we compare the amount of material used to the amount of armor obtained.
- The only way to get chain armor is to look for it in chests or from killed mobs.
