Chain armor or chainmail armor cannot be made like other types of armor in Minecraft. To get all the components of this armor, you can kill monsters wearing armor or trade with village blacksmiths. Chain armor can be obtained in survival and creative mode without the help of mods or cheats.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Bartering Chain Mail Armor with the Villagers
Step 1. Get an emerald (emerald)
You can buy chain armor from blacksmiths by exchanging emeralds. These items can be obtained from other villagers or by mining.
- You can buy items from villagers with emeralds. Find out what other villagers can buy from using emeralds. For example, a villager in brown robes wants to exchange emeralds for some wheat.
- Emeralds can be found by mining and can usually be found in the Extreme Hill biome. However, emeralds are rare and more time consuming than bartering with villagers.
- The price of chain armor components varies greatly. Chain Helmet requires 5-6 emeralds, Chain Chest requires 11-14 emeralds, a pair of Chain Leggings requires 9-10 emeralds and a pair of Chain Boots requires 5-6 emeralds.
Step 2. Find the armorsmith's house in the village
The villagers live in the Forge building which has a lava pool in front of the terrace and can be seen wearing a black apron. Only iron armorsmiths are willing to exchange chain armor.
Step 3. Open the barter GUI window
Right-click on a villager to display the barter window. This window will show what the villagers have to offer and want. You need to make sure the blacksmith has the title “armorer” which can be seen at the top of the window. Click the right or left arrow to see the items he owns and wants.
- Blacksmiths can have different jobs such as Tool Smith or Weapon Smith. This job does not make chain armor.
- If the village does not have a blacksmith with an armorer job, try looking in another village.
Step 4. Barter with armorers
Armorers may not have chain armor to trade with. This depends on the rating which determines the variety of items available. In order for an armorer to have chain armor to trade with, you must trade it for other items to help increase his trade rank.
If the armorer does not have a chain armor component to trade with, swap it for the last item he has on the list by clicking the right arrow to reach the end of the list and start bartering. Close the GUI window. There is a chance that the armorer will appear shiny. Meaning, he had already reached advanced rank and probably already had chain armor components that could be traded. Repeat the process until the chain armor component appears in the list
Method 2 of 2: Harvesting Dangerous Enemies for Chain Mail Armor
Step 1. Understand the concept of “harvesting” dangerous enemies
“Harvesting” (farming) is a method that utilizes game logic to increase the player's chances of obtaining items. Hunting enemies is done by attacking them in areas where they often appear. The trick is to create an environment that allows you to surround enemies in a central area and can obtain items efficiently.
Step 2. Increase game difficulty mode
The difficulty level of the Minecraft game determines how enemies appear and the damage done to the player. By increasing the difficulty level, your chances of encountering enemies are armed and armored, and in some cases they are wearing chain armor. Dangerous enemies are non-player character (NPC) types who will attack players. The only dangerous enemies that appear wearing chain armor are zombies and skeletons. The high difficulty level will increase the chances of finding enemies who are wearing chain armor.
- If you play in hardcore mode, you can't increase the difficulty any further.
- Increasing the difficulty level of the game increases the chances of getting killed by enemies and hunger.
- The difficulty level can always be changed during the game. After finding the armor components, the difficulty level can be lowered again.
- Enemies don't make pilgrimages on Peaceful or Easy difficulty.
Step 3. Create traps to harvest enemies
Harvesting enemies is done by setting traps around where they often appear. One example is creating a channel using water elemental blocks that move enemies to a central area or moat so you can attack them easily without worrying about being hit back. Dangerous enemies appear when it's dark so you'll need a dark place to spawn them, which can be made with blocks from various places or mining them underground.
- Try creating an area where the enemy can't attack back, for example using a flat block surrounded by regular-sized blocks to prevent movement. Enemies usually can't crawl under holes so you can attack them easily.
- Enemy spawns will periodically summon enemies which can give you an advantage through harvesting techniques because you will know the exact location where the enemy will appear. Enemy spawns for zombies and skeletons appear underground. To create a device around an enemy, illuminate the area with torches and on enemy spawns so that their minions don't appear due to the light. Once the traps are set, remove the torches so enemies can appear.
- Skeletons and zombies will not fall from high places. You can use blocks like signs around the edges because enemies will see them as blocks to step on, and they'll fall straight down. However, be careful when using signs as traps as signs can block elements such as water.
Step 4. Kill the enemy wearing chain armor
If you find a zombie or skeleton wearing armor, use your weapon to kill it. There is a small chance (~5%) of the enemy dropping the armor they are wearing. Touch the armor to pick it up. If the enemy doesn't drop armor, repeat the process until all components are obtained.
