Putting eggs in a bottle seems impossible, but with a little knowledge and a few household tools, it is possible. This experiment is well known and fun to practice.

Part 1 of 3: Boiling Eggs
Step 1. Place an egg in a pot full of water
Place the eggs in a pot filled with water until it is full. Use warm water to make it boil faster.
You can boil several eggs at once so you can try this trick several times just in case the first attempt fails
Step 2. Bring the water to a boil
Place the pot on the stove and turn on medium heat. Leave it for 20 minutes until the water boils.
Step 3. Peel the eggs
Drain the water in the pot carefully so as not to burn your hands. Use cold water to cool the eggs, then peel the shells. Tap the eggs on the table to crack the shells so they are easier to peel.
Part 2 of 3: Putting an Egg in a Bottle Using a Match
Step 1. Prepare the bottle
Place the bottle with the mouth facing up. This is the position required to perform this trick.
- Make sure the bottle you use is a glass bottle. Using plastic bottles (or other materials other than glass) can be very dangerous.
- The size of the mouth of the bottle should be small, but at least half the diameter of the egg (eg a milk bottle).
Step 2. Light the match
Light three matches carefully. Carefully, insert the still-lit match into the bottle. Wait a second or two.
Step 3. Place the egg in the mouth of the bottle
Place the egg in the mouth of the bottle as quickly as possible with the wider side facing up. Don't wait too long to set the eggs because the matches will go out and this trick will fail.
Step 4. Watch how the egg goes into the bottle
After the match goes out, the egg will be like being pulled into a bottle. That way, you can amaze your friends with this trick of putting eggs in a bottle.
Part 3 of 3: Putting Eggs in Bottles Using Candles
Step 1. Place a birthday candle on one end of the egg
Use two or three small birthday candles and attach them to the small ends of the peeled eggs. Make sure the wax is firmly in place, but not so deep that the eggs are not damaged.
Step 2. Light the candle
Light candles carefully under adult supervision. This candle will burn easily.
Step 3. Put the candle in the inverted bottle
Turn the bottle over and hold it with the wax inside. Be careful not to cover the mouth of the bottle with the egg for a few seconds. You need time for the wax to heat the air in the bottle first.
Step 4. Watch the eggs start to enter the bottle
After a few seconds, lower the bottle all the way down to cover the mouth with the egg. The candle may go out with a small pop, but after a while the egg will go into the bottle.
Step 5. Explain how it works to your friends
This trick occurs because a burning match heats the air in the bottle and releases moisture as part of the combustion reaction. This process also causes the air inside the bottle to expand, pushing some of the other air out.
- When the egg covers the mouth of the bottle, the lighter will quickly run out of oxygen and die. As the air in the bottle cools, the volume of the air in the bottle decreases due to condensation of water vapor (see small "clouds" inside the bottle when the match goes out) and the cool dry air.
- When the volume of air decreases, the pressure inside the bottle decreases, while the pressure outside the bottle does not change. The egg is pushed into the bottle when the pressure difference is strong enough to change the shape of the egg so that it is able to fit the neck of the bottle.
Tips
- Most eggs remain intact even after being sucked into the bottle, but experimental results may vary.
- You want to keep the shell attached to the egg? Simply soak the eggs in vinegar for 24 hours until the shells soften, then follow the experiment instructions above. Then, wait another 24 hours and the shell will harden again. You can even do this trick with raw eggs.
- You can also use balloons. Spread the mouthpiece of the balloon over the mouth of the bottle and the balloon will begin to inflate inside the bottle.
- Don't wait too long after the match is lit because the match will die.
- Brush the surface of the egg with oil to make it easier to enter the bottle.
- Brush the eggs with butter to make them smoother.
Warning
- Don't try this experiment on carpet or anything like that.
- Don't do this experiment if you don't know how to use a lighter.
- If you have long hair, be sure to tie it up as it burns easily.
- Do not perform this experiment without adult supervision if you are under 18 years of age. If you're not sure, ask an adult to light a match.
