If a bottle opener is not available, there are many other ways to open a bottle cap. If you're at home, try using different tools and equipment to remove the bottle cap. If you're on the go, the stuff in your pocket might work for opening bottles. If you need to open a bottle of wine, there's an easy way to pull out the cork. Whichever bottle you choose, you'll be able to open it easily!
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Home Appliances
Step 1. Open the bottle with the edge of a spoon
Grasp the neck of the bottle with your non-dominant hand so that the top of your hand and the cap are 2.5 cm apart. Position the metal edge of the spoon under the bottle cap and rest the handle on your hand. Press the handle down to remove the cap from the bottle.
Be sure to use a spoon that will not bend or deform when pressed
Step 2. Use scissors as an impromptu bottle opener
Open the scissors in half so that they form a V shape, and tuck the cross between the two blades under the bottle cap. Press the scissor handle down and squeeze slightly to pry the cap off the bottle and release it from the bottle.
- If not, you can also try cutting along the serrations on the bottle cap until it comes off the bottle.
- Make sure the scissors are pointing away from you so they don't hurt you if you slip.
Step 3. Remove the cap from the bottle using a hammer
Position the back of the claw hammer so that it grips under the bottle cap. Pull the hammer handle down towards you to lift the bottle cap. Once the bottle cap is off, set the hammer aside and enjoy your drink!
Be careful not to use too much force to accidentally break the bottle
Step 4. Try twisting the bottle cap with a rubber sheet or cloth
Wrap the rubber or cloth around the bottle cap until you can grip it firmly. Twist the bottle cap counterclockwise to loosen it and try to open it. The rubber sheet's reinforced grip can help you twist the bottle cap until it comes off.
This may be difficult to do because bottle caps are not designed to be twisted
Step 5. Use the kitchen counter to remove the bottle cap
Position the edge of the bottle cap with the edge of the kitchen counter, and tilt the bottle 30 degrees. Hold the bottle firmly with your non-dominant hand and hit the cap with your dominant hand. You may need to hit 2-3 times to fully remove the bottle cap but it will eventually come off due to the force of the blow.
- Be careful not to break the bottle when hitting.
- For carbonated drinks, the liquid in the bottle may start to foam. Make sure the drink doesn't spill into places that are difficult to clean.
Warning:
This step can damage the countertop so only do it if you are sure the countertop won't be damaged by the bottle cap. Do not apply this method to wooden kitchen countertops because they are easily scratched or damaged.
Method 2 of 3: Opening a Beer Bottle on the Go
Step 1. Loosen the bottle cap with a wrench until it comes off
Hold the top of the bottle cap with the thumb of your non-dominant hand so it doesn't move. Use the end of a key, either a house key or a vehicle key, and tuck it under the rim of the bottle cap. Pull the back of the lock to raise the rim of the bottle cap and loosen it from the bottle.
You may need to lift the rim of the bottle cap in several places until it comes off. Flick the bottle cap until it comes off
Step 2. Position the lighter under the bottle cap until it comes off
Hold the bottle with your non-dominant hand so that your hand and the cap are 2.5 cm apart. Hold the grip under the rim of the bottle cap, and grip the bottle neck tightly so it doesn't move. Press the clamp down over your hand so that it pushes and opens the bottle cap.
Step 3. Use the edge of the belt buckle as if you were using a bottle opener
This method works best if you have a metal buckle belt. Unfasten the belt and remove it from the pants for easy wearing. Place the U-shaped buckle under the bottle cap. Pull the buckle back to bend the bottle cap and open the bottle.
Some buckles have a built-in bottle opener. Check your belt buckle to be sure
Step 4. Disassemble the bottle cap with a steel or titanium ring
Place your hand on the bottle cap so that the ring is on the underside of the bottle cap. Tilt the bottle 45 degrees toward your hand so that it grips the ring. Grasp the top of the bottle and tilt your hand so that the ring opens the bottle.
If the ring or rim of the bottle cap begins to prick your finger before the cap can come off, stop immediately lest you hurt yourself
Warning:
Do not use rings made of precious metals, such as silver or gold, as they can be damaged when you open the bottle.
Method 3 of 3: Removing the Cork from the Wine Bottle
Step 1. Use screws and a claw hammer for an impromptu bottle opener
Turn the screw by hand in a good center, and stop until the head is 1 cm above the cork. Use the claw head on the hammer to grip the screw, then shake it back and forth to loosen the cork. Try turning the bottle until the cork comes off the cap.
Tip:
You can also use a drill to screw in the cork, but be careful not to break the bottle.
Step 2. Insert the bottle into the tennis shoe and smash it against the wall if you don't have a tool
Place the bottle in the shoe and grip it tightly against the insole. Hit the heel of your shoe with a hard surface, such as a wall or counter to remove the cork from the neck of the bottle. Once you can grip the cork with ease, pull the rest out by hand.
Do not wear shoes with high heels or flat soles as you could accidentally damage the bottle
Step 3. Use a bicycle pump to force the cork out of the bottle
Make sure the bicycle pump has a small needle tip head. Push the needle along the side of the neck so that it extends past the bottom of the cork. Pump the air slowly and watch if the cork is getting out of the neck of the bottle. If the cork can be gripped tightly, pull the cork using your hands.
If you don't see progress after a few pumps, remove the needle from the bottle. Pressure can build up in the wine bottle and break it
Step 4. Push the cork into the wine bottle otherwise it won't come out
Use your fingers to push the cork deeper into the bottle and into the wine. If you can't push it by hand, use a handle to push a tool, such as a wooden spoon, to help force it in further.
