Sushi is really delicious, but why not make another variation? Vary the sushi using fruit to make a dessert version of sushi.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sushi rice
- 2 cups of water
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- Fruit (anything, like pineapple, kiwi, mango, banana, strawberry, etc.)
Step
Step 1. Wash the rice
Put the rice in a large bowl, then add the water. Wash by hand until the water turns milky white. Then, drain the water using a filter.
Step 2. Cook the rice
Put the water, rice, salt and sugar in a thick saucepan and let it boil. Reduce the heat and continue to cook the rice for 12-15 minutes.
Step 3. Add coconut milk
Pour in the coconut milk after the rice has absorbed all the water.
Step 4. Cool the rice
Remove the rice from the pan and transfer to a tray to cool.
Step 5. Cut the fruits
Using a knife, cut the fruit lengthwise as you would a regular sushi filling.
Step 6. Arrange the rice on a plastic sheet
Arrange the rice to form a rectangle. You can use your hands or a spoon to do this.
Step 7. Arrange the fruit filling
Arrange the fruit filling slightly into the center of the rice, about 2/3 of the way from the edge of the rice.
Step 8. Roll the sushi
Once all the fruit fillings have been laid out, carefully roll the sushi while pressing it down to form an oval. Make sure the filling doesn't come off.
Step 9. Serve
Arrange the sushi strips on a plate with sliced cantaloupe instead of pickled ginger, and a dip of fresh, mashed fruit instead of soy sauce. Don't forget to eat with chopsticks!
Tips
- Make nigiri by molding the rice in a bowl, then arranging thin slices of fruit on top.
- To keep your hands from sticking, provide a small bowl of water to dip your hands into while rolling the sushi.
- For a more Japanese feel, eat this fruit sushi while drinking a glass of warm green tea.
- Pour the chocolate sauce over the sushi for a creative touch and add sweetness.
- If you have a sushi rolling mat, use it.
- You can use chocolate sauce instead of soy sauce or lime yogurt instead of wasabi.
