Believe it or not, the “money tree” is not a tree that grows money. If only this was a horticultural experiment! A money tree is a display at an event where guests can clip or slip envelopes filled with money in the “tree” as a gift to the guest of honor. Put one on your next special occasion and the money will pile up!
Step
Method 1 of 2: For Weddings or Historic Events
Step 1. Choose the type of tree that matches the celebration
Of course, real trees are the rule of thumb, but any material can work.
- Spruce or cedar are fun choices for winter gatherings.
- Palms are an ideal choice for a beach themed party.
- A small fig tree, vine, or vine can make a great display.
- For a more modern impression, choose wire.
Step 2. Arrange the tree into the appropriate shape
The shape will look round from all sides.
- File all sharp edges. You don't want your generous guests to get hurt.
- Attach additional rods for added density.
Step 3. Select and decorate the container
Clay pots have a traditional feel, though it doesn't matter which container holds the tree in position.
- Color the container to match the theme of your event.
- Add words, pictures, or quotes, if desired.
Step 4. Place the rods perpendicular to the container
Fill with sand, marble, cork, or other heavy filling.
- The stem should be centered and stable.
- If using cork, put the cork in the container before inserting the stem.
Step 5. Decorate the branches
Free your imagination! The appearance is not flashy, but attracts attention. You can:
- Spray paint on the branches with the appropriate color.
- Add ribbon to the smaller branches.
- Weave a braid of beads or lights inside and outside the tree.
-
Snap small photos.
The money tree should not be a collection of donations. The money tree should be a display, but not the center of attention
Step 6. Add clips to the money tree
Guests will use it to stick their envelopes.
-
Place additional tongs near the tree receptacle for later gifts.
Keep pens and notebooks nearby as well so guests can staple up the greetings
- Glue some envelopes at random to clarify the purpose of the tree.
Step 7. Place the tree near the other gifts
Don't be front and center; guests will see it as an alternative to gift giving.
Ask friends or family to explain that the tree is being used as an option for guests – monetary gifts are not mandatory and the smallest amount is appreciated
Step 8. Add a verse or rhyme near the tree container
Some guests may feel unfamiliar with the concept. Make it clear that giving gifts is a choice.
Step 9. Done
Enjoy your money tree. Don't tell me about the tree. The tree should seem simple and elegant, not a wish for a gift.
Ask the family for information. It is more polite and respectable. Announcing the process at the time of reception would be a violation of ethics
Method 2 of 2: As a Gift
Step 1. Decide to use a real tree, a tree in a pot, or a fake tree
Consider who the guest of honor is and what leftovers you have.
If using stems from live trees, be sure to wash and dry them before planting. Leave the stems in your garage and give the insects time to leave
Step 2. Place the stems in an attractive basket or pot
The container should be deep enough for the stems to stay upright.
Decorate the container however you like. Spray paint on the container before you insert the stem and let it dry
Step 3. Add decorations to your money tree
Tailored to the event and the recipient. As an example:
- Tape
- Lamp
- Tulle
- Photo
- Glittering powder
Step 4. Attach the money to the branches using tongs
Using the 10k will give the tree a fuller and more attractive look.
- Fold the money in any form. A six mm crease is a common size, but this is a time where you can let your origami skills shine!
- Optionally, roll up the money and tie it to the branches with ribbon or floral wire.
Step 5. Done
Your tree is ready!
Tips
- If it's a gift, choose a size that the recipient can easily take home.
- Consider the size of the party. Bigger trees can hold more money.
- Consider the location of the tree. The tree placed on the table must be smaller than the tree placed on the floor.
- When it comes to trees, think about the words. Some guests may find it rude to ask for money.
Warning
- Keep an eye on the tree during the party. Not everyone can be trusted.
- Do not leave your tree outside in extreme weather conditions.
