Making slime is a fun way to explore the world of science and art. However, since slime can easily turn out to be too runny, you may be frustrated if you can't make slime to the right consistency. To fix slime that's too runny and make it thicker, you can add borax, glue, or cornstarch, depending on the type of slime you have. In addition, alternatively, you can also throw away too much slime water, squeeze the slime more often, or add baking soda if the slime is made from a salt solution.

Method 1 of 2: Adding Thickener
Step 1. Add 60 ml of clear glue if the slime is made of liquid flour
Measure the clear glue that will be used, then put it in the bowl containing the slime. Stir the glue and slime with a spoon until smooth. After that, remove the slime from the bowl and squeeze it. After 2-3 minutes, the slime will thicken.
- If 60 ml of clear glue is not enough to thicken the slime, add 60 ml of extra clear glue and stir. The slime will have a thicker consistency.
- If possible, put the slime that has been added with clear glue in a sealed bag and leave it overnight. This will allow the slime and glue to blend well.
Step 2. Add baking soda if the slime is made from a salt solution
Add tsp extra baking soda if the slime is made of clear glue. If the slime is made of white glue, add an extra tsp of baking soda. Stir in the baking soda and slime with a spoon, then knead for 2-3 minutes. Add more baking soda if the slime is still too runny.
- Baking soda is an important ingredient when making slime from a salt solution. Baking soda can help thicken the slime.
- Don't add too much baking soda at once so the slime isn't too hard.
Step 3. Add extra cornstarch if the slime is made from cornstarch and dish soap
Add tsp of cornstarch to the bowl containing the slime. Stir using a spoon.
When making slime from cornstarch and dish soap, dish soap works to make slime more flexible, while corn flour serves to make slime denser and not runny.
Step 4. Add more cornstarch if the slime is made from cornstarch and glue
Add 1 tsp extra cornstarch to the bowl containing the slime and mix. Cornstarch and slime from glue take a long time to come together. Therefore, continue to stir for about 5 minutes.
If the slime doesn't thicken, continue to add a small amount of cornstarch and stir. However, don't add too much cornstarch at once so the slime isn't too hard
Step 5. Add about 60 grams of shaving cream to thicken the smooth slime
If the slime remains runny after kneading, add shaving cream. Just add shaving cream to the slime container and squeeze.
Keep adding shaving cream until you get the consistency of slime you want
Step 6. Add tbsp of borax to thicken the slime made from borax
Prepare borax and put it in a container containing slime. Stir the slime and borax with a spoon until smooth. Keep adding tbsp of borax until no slime remains.
Method 2 of 2: Using Alternative Methods
Step 1. Remove the excess slime water from the container
Place the slime into the container, then tilt the container over the sink. Remove as much of the slime as possible. Remove the slime water slowly until there is nothing left.
- Hold the slime with your hands, or place a plate on top of the container when disposing of the slime. This is done to prevent the slime from escaping from the container. Leave a small gap for the slime liquid to escape from the container.
- You can do this for any type of slime. In addition, this method can also help the slime not to be too runny. It's best to throw away too much slime before thickening the slime.
Step 2. Knead the slime for 5 minutes if it contains glue
Place the slime on a clean surface. Observe whether the slime thickens when kneaded or not. Keep squeezing the slime to remove too much liquid.
Most types of slime, such as borax, liquid flour, and salt solution, contain clear glue or white glue. The consistency of this type of slime will change when kneaded. This type of slime will generally thicken and harden when kneaded
Step 3. Put the slime containing shampoo or soap in the refrigerator for 10 minutes
Place the slime in a closed container. Place the slime in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes, or until it thickens.
Alternatively, instead of using a sealed container, put the slime in a resealable plastic bag
Tips
- DO NOT mix water with slime that is not made of water.
- If the slime sticks to your clothes or carpet, pat it down with vinegar. This can help break down the slime.

- Wash your hands after touching the slime
- Wear gloves when making slime from borax, liquid flour, or salt solution if you have sensitive skin. These ingredients contain boron which can irritate the skin.
