Stockings are a type of bottom made of soft nylon material to cover the legs to the waist. Usually, stockings are used to disguise skin color or to avoid friction on exposed legs. Due to the thin and soft material, stockings can easily tear if you are not careful to wear them. However, if it has been successfully worn, stockings can make your appearance more presentable. Wearing stockings must be done correctly so that they are not easily torn and comfortable to wear.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Choosing the Right Size
Step 1. Choose stockings whose top fits your waist size
All stockings are made with an upper that is similar to the top of the panties, which serves to hold the stockings from sagging while at the same time forming a slimmer waist. The tightness of stockings at the waist varies, therefore, choose stockings that are according to your wishes so that they are also more comfortable to wear.
- The top of the stockings is usually equipped with panties that are right in the middle. If you want to shape the curve of your waist, this type of stockings is a good choice. However, many people find these stockings too tight at the top to feel a little uncomfortable, forcing them to constantly adjust the position of the stockings to make them feel more comfortable to wear.
- The usual standard stockings are of a simpler construction, and are generally not made to accentuate the curve of the waist. If you don't feel the need to accentuate your curves, choose regular stockings over tight stockings.
Step 2. Select the thickness of the stockings
Just like tightness, the transparency of stockings also varies. The options can be super transparent to dark. Remember, each type of transparency will give a different finish in your overall look. If you choose super translucent stockings that match your skin tone, they will blend into your skin and won't show up if you don't pay close attention. While dark stockings will be more clearly visible.
- Transparent stockings are thinner than dark stockings, and of course they tear more easily. This is worth noting if you want to buy stockings that last a long time.
- Dark stockings also feel warmer than transparent stockings, so they're definitely better suited for the rainy season.
Step 3. Choose stockings that fit the size
Usually the size of stockings is made based on height and weight, because stockings must stretch from the feet to the waist. Look at the wrapper. Usually there is a size listed.
If you don't like wearing stockings that are too tight, choose one that's a number larger. However, stockings will still feel tight at the waist so as not to sag
Step 4. Consider choosing more comfortable stockings
Some are equipped with such a design. If you have trouble getting them, try choosing the following types of stockings:
- Stockings with elastic waist. Usually these stockings are labeled as “non-slip”.
- Stockings with exposed legs, toes and inner thighs; depending on which area makes you feel uncomfortable if worn too tight.
Step 5. Choose stockings with a prominent motif
Patterned stockings will look very beautiful when worn. For example, stockings with protruding seams will give it a vintage look. Indeed, this type of stockings is more difficult to wear because the motif must fit perfectly on the leg. But if you wear it right, your look will be fantastic!
Part 2 of 3: Wearing Stockings Easily
Step 1. Prepare your hands, legs, and feet so that when they are worn, the stockings will not tear due to exposure to nails or rough skin surfaces
Here are a few things you should do:
- File and flatten fingernails and toenails.
- Shave or wax the leg hairs (especially if you are going to wear thin and transparent stockings).
- Apply moisturizer to your hands, feet, and feet.
- Remove any rings or bracelets that could get caught in the nylon material and tear the stockings.
Step 2. Position the stockings in the front
Check the label, so you can tell which is the front and which is the back (the part with the label is the back). Do not turn it upside down, because wearing stockings upside down will feel and look weird.
Step 3. Fold the stockings up to the toes, then start from the right or left foot
Fold the waist, then position the stockings in such a way that the inside is clearly visible. The point is, you have to create an easy access for the feet, so as to minimize the risk of tearing.
Step 4. Point your toes into the stockings and tuck them in
You may need to widen the opening a little so that your foot can fit in without snagging. It's also important to point your toes directly into the stockings without touching the material so your nails don't tear the thin stockings. Tuck all parts of the foot into the stockings and position the seam down, so that when the foot is inserted, the seam will be directly above the toes.
- Make sure your legs are straight when tucked into the stockings. Otherwise, it will be difficult to pull the stockings up.
- You can do it sitting or standing. If you find it difficult to maintain balance to stand with one leg raised, it is okay to wear stockings while sitting.
Step 5. Slowly pull the stockings toward your thighs
Do it gently and carefully so that the material is not pulled too tight and torn. Keep the bottom in place and not move until the stockings reach the thighs. If there is a twist or bend in the knee area, straighten it before starting to pull again.
Step 6. Repeat the same process with the other leg
Fold the waist and legs so that the entrance for the toes is wide open. Point your toes into the stockings and tuck them in. After that, straighten the bottom so that the seam is just above the toes. Pull the stockings up, over the calves and knees, up to the thighs. Make sure the stockings are not twisted.
Step 7. When you've finished pulling up to your thighs, you just need to pull the rest to your waist
If done while sitting, stand up and pull the stockings until they fit around the waist.
When the stockings have been successfully worn, check both your feet to see if the material fits evenly on the feet and there are no twists
Step 8. Look carefully and make some adjustments if necessary
Check the areas where the stockings usually fold, or where your skin feels pulled. Stockings should feel comfortable. So, if you feel the opposite, take it off and reuse it, this time more carefully. This is important to do, especially if you will be wearing these stockings all day.
If you're wearing stockings with pops of print, try wearing rubber gloves when adjusting them to your feet. Be careful not to pinch the stockings to even out the surface, because this can tear the stockings
Part 3 of 3: Wear Stockings Comfortably and Stylishly
Step 1. When wearing stockings, match them with comfortable clothes
Wearing tight clothes with stockings will only make you uncomfortable all day long. As much as possible, wear clothes that are easy to remove when you have to go to the restroom. If the clothes you wear are made to fit your body, you might consider the following options:
- Socks to the knee or thigh that are tight and like stockings can be an option, because the top is not tight at the waist.
- Leggings, which are more or less the same as stockings but with a softer material, can be another option because your skin will breathe more freely.
Step 2. Don't forget the weather factor
Stockings are not very suitable for use in humid and hot weather, because the material tends to trap sweat, so you will feel uncomfortable. If you want to wear stockings in warm weather and tend to be hot, wear a material that is thin and transparent, the top is also not tight, so it doesn't feel too stuffy.
Step 3. Learn how to prevent small rips from getting longer
Minor rips will always be there, they are sometimes unavoidable, no matter how careful you are. When small rips start to appear, cut out the loose threads and apply a little transparent polish on the damaged area. This method can prevent the tear from becoming long.
