Want to stay up all night while staying at a friend's house so that time is not wasted? Do not worry. With strong intentions and self-confidence, you and your friends will be able to maximize every second and be able to resist the strong temptation to fall asleep!
Step
Part 1 of 4: Ignoring the Bedtime Routine
Step 1. Don't wear pajamas
Pajamas are sleepwear designed to provide a sense of comfort for the wearer. That's why wearing pajamas is prone to make you sleepy more easily! Therefore, always wear uncomfortable clothes and jeans so that your body does not associate these clothes with sleeping activities.
Step 2. Don't lie in bed
The sense of comfort that arises will make you want to close your eyes and fall asleep afterwards. Therefore, always sit on the floor, a hard chair, or similar furniture. Change positions periodically to keep your body active!
Step 3. Make sure the room lights stay bright
Dim lighting can make the body (especially the eyes) feel tired. If possible, turn on at least two lighting sources in the room (including the television). Doing this can keep your eyes open and your mind awake.
Part 2 of 4: Keeping the Body Awake
Step 1. Get as much sleep as possible the night before
To make your body more ready to stay up late, make sure you take a nap or sleep longer the previous day. If possible, you can even try to get 12 hours of sleep the day before you wake up or steal some time to sleep right before your sleepover starts.
Step 2. Consume coffee and other caffeinated drinks
Don't like coffee? Try downing a few glasses of soda like Sprite or Coca Cola. If you want, you can also mix instant coffee with milk and hot chocolate to make it even more delicious.
Step 3. Eat spicy food
Eating spicy food can make the tongue feel burning, the body feels hot, and the brain stays awake. Therefore, try eating spicy Cheetos, spicy noodles, spicy chips, and other foods that have a very spicy taste. However, do not eat too much so that the stomach is not full and the body feels sleepy afterwards.
Step 4. Try eating sugary snacks
High sugar content can keep your body active. Therefore, try to increase the consumption of candy, chocolate, ice cream, cookies, cakes, and other sweet snacks. If you want, you can also eat sugary snacks with a sour taste to make the body extra awake because of the sour taste and sugar content in it.
Step 5. Chew menthol-flavored gum
Why does a mouth that doesn't stop chewing and biting something is effective at keeping the body awake? In fact, the chewing movements you do will send a signal to the brain that you are eating. As a result, the brain will also represent these signals as a signal for the body to stay awake. After all, chewing food without swallowing it will prevent you from feeling overly tired or full that makes you sleepy.
Step 6. Drink plenty of water
Trust me, a full bladder won't make you sleepy and push you to keep moving! In addition to being healthy, consuming water regularly also prevents the risk of dehydration which can make the body feel tired.
Step 7. Splash cold water on your face
Whenever you feel really sleepy, try going to the toilet, turning the sink faucet, and splashing some cold water on your face. Doing so can stimulate facial nerves and restore your energy.
Step 8. Move more
If your body continues to move, automatically your blood flow will continue to circulate and prevent you from falling asleep. Therefore, try doing activities such as jumping jacks or push-ups to keep your body awake. Also invite your friends to play games that require the body to keep moving instead of just playing video games or watching television while sitting.
Invite your friends to play pillow fight! Besides being very fun, the game will also keep your body active. Control yourself so the game doesn't get too noisy and annoy your friends' parents
Part 3 of 4: Keeping the Mind Awake
Step 1. Do the things you love
For example, try watching movies, playing video games, playing board games, or doing other activities that can keep you busy. If you prefer playing games on your phone or tablet, go for it! However, make sure you always rest your eyes every twenty minutes. If you want, invite your friends to play Honest or Dare, Choose Which, and Mafia. The three types of games require your mind to focus, thereby reducing the possibility of sleepiness. You and your friends can also play Guitar Hero or Rock Band which is effective in keeping the body and mind awake.
- When watching movies or television shows, it's best not to watch shows you've already watched to prevent boredom. Instead, watch shows or episodes that are new or that you haven't watched in a while.
- Rest your eyes regularly so you don't get tired.
Step 2. Listen to loud, fast-paced music
Generally, rock music and heavy metal are the right choice! If you don't have a music collection of that genre, try listening to other types of music and turning up the volume. Make sure the music is loud enough to keep you awake, but not so loud that you risk waking your friend's parents. If you want, you and your friends can even take turns listening to music using headphones.
Step 3. Try not to look at the clock
Believe me, the night will feel longer and endless if you keep doing it. Instead of looking at the clock, try to focus on the things your friends are talking or doing. The more fun activities you go through, the faster time will pass.
Step 4. Rely on each other
If any of you look sleepy, point out that someone else can pinch or shake his arm to wake him up again. You can even change activities to encourage everyone to be more active and awake. Help each other so that staying up late is easier for all parties to pass!
Part 4 of 4: Keeping Active
Step 1. Spend the night sharing a fun story
However, make sure your stories don't have the potential to offend others, okay? For example, tell a story about someone you like and ask them to do the same. Also invite your friends to discuss various gossip circulating at school, or television shows that are currently popular. Chatting can stimulate the mind and keep it awake.
Why not invite your friends to exchange horror stories so that no one falls asleep from being too scared? If you want, you can even invite them to play honest or brave in the dark so that no one dares to sleep afterward
Step 2. Try playing hide and seek in the dark
Believe me, the tension and intensity of the game will increase if the participants have to hide in the dark. As a result, your body and mind will always be awake afterward! In addition, the game of hide and seek is a very effective remedy for boredom. However, make sure you don't hide lying down if you don't want to fall asleep afterwards.
Step 3. Play outside
If you have permission from your friend's parents, try inviting your friends to play in the open air. For example, invite them to play on the trampoline, hide and seek with a flashlight, play racing, or even swim in the swimming pool behind their house. The cold air is effective in keeping your body awake afterward!
Step 4. Invite your friends to sing
Regardless of whether your voice is good or not, actually singing is a very fun activity to fill your spare time and keep your brain active. For example, invite your friends to hold a fake Indonesian Idol or X-Factor in your bedroom, living room, or even your friend's yard! However, make sure you don't disturb the sleep of your parents or housemates, OK!
Tips
- Don't be too loud when you wake up in the morning if you don't want to upset your friend's parents.
- Don't focus your gaze on one point. Doing so can make you sleepy!
- The next day, take a nap for at least 2-4 hours.
- Stay up late on holidays or weekends so you and your friends don't have to endure sleepiness at school the next day!
- Do not do activities that will disturb the sleep of the people in the house.
- Invite your friends to play Minecraft or other online games.
- Do not wear a blanket so that your body is cold and not sleepy.
- Watching horror movies can really keep you awake. However, still respect your friends who are easily frightened!
- Invite your friends to watch YouTube or Netflix. Trust me, you won't want to stop if you're already hooked on something interesting.
- If boredom strikes, plan various interesting activities to do in the morning such as surprise breakfast, breakfast in bed, etc.
Warning
- Get as much rest as possible before and after staying up late. Prolonged sleep deprivation can mess with your ability to focus and damage your long-term health.
- Don't drink too much coffee or other caffeinated drinks. Although a normal dose (1-2 glasses) can keep you awake, consumption levels that are too high run the risk of damaging your heart.
