Commercial hair dyes can be heavy on the wallet, and they are full of chemicals that can irritate the body. Many people are allergic to over-the-counter hair dyes. However, you can use natural products such as coffee, tea, fruits and vegetables to color your hair. Keep in mind that staining with natural products is permanent and will wear off over time. This article contains tips on how to color your hair with natural products.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Darken Hair
Step 1. Use brewed coffee and a hair moisturizer that doesn't need to be rinsed
Coffee is a great, inexpensive natural option that you can use to darken your hair. Make sure you buy organic coffee because non-organic coffee can contain other chemicals.
- Make strong coffee with organic coffee. It's best to make it too strong to drink and use a dark roast or espresso. This coffee selection provides a strong coloring.
- Wait for the coffee to cool. Of course you don't want your scalp to burn while you're coloring your hair!
- Mix 2 cups of natural, leave-in moisturizer with 2 tablespoons of organic coffee grounds and one cup of brewed strong coffee. Always mix all ingredients in a non-metallic bowl as metals can affect this dye.
- Apply this mixture to the hair with the applicator bottle. You can buy it at a beauty supply store.
- Let the dye soak for an hour, then rinse. Your hair should be a beautiful brown by now.
Step 2. Make a coffee rinse
This method may have to be repeated several times to get the best results.
- Wash your hair with shampoo, then pour strong (cooled) coffee over your hair.
- Let the coffee soak for 20 minutes.
- Rinse hair with apple cider vinegar. The apple cider vinegar will clean the coffee and help to keep the hair color long lasting.
- Do this rinse as many times as needed for a darker finish.
Step 3. Make a rinse from black walnuts
You can use walnut powder or rind. Walnut shells provide a strong dye and are less likely to stain the leather.
- If you are using the peel, crush the skin and soak it in boiling water. Let it soak for three days.
- If you are using walnut powder, boil some water and add 5 tablespoons of the powder to it (depending on how dark you want it to be). Allow this mixture to dissolve longer for a few hours or more if you want a darker finish.
- Apply this mixture to your hair and let it absorb for at least 20 minutes and let it dry naturally. By now your hair should be a few shades darker.
Step 4. Make tea from sage and rosemary leaves
This herb is great for covering gray hair.
- Mix sage and rosemary in a 1:1 ratio in a cup of hot water.
- Let the spices settle for at least 10 minutes.
- Strain the spices from the water.
- Use this liquid to rinse your hair and repeat every day until your hair is darker in color and reaches the desired color.
Step 5. Make a strong black tea rinse
This is the best way for those with brown hair and want to darken their hair color.
- Use three black tea bags to make 2 cups of tea with boiling water.
- Leave it for 5 minutes then wait until it cools down.
- Apply it to your hair with the applicator bottle, then let it soak in for an hour before rinsing it off.
- To cover gray hair, add an equal amount of sage to the water while the tea bag is still dipping.
Method 2 of 3: Lightening Hair Color and Adding Highlights
Step 1. Add yellow highlights with tea made from chamomile
This is an effective natural way to lighten hair color.
- Dip a chamomile tea bag in boiling water for at least 30 minutes.
- Wash hair with shampoo and dry with a towel.
- Pour the tea over your hair and let it dry naturally.
- Repeat for a few days until you get the desired hair color.
Step 2. Use lemon to lighten the hair color
This method works slowly and requires several tries.
- Apply pure lemon juice to the hair. This lemon juice acts as a natural bleach.
- The brightening effect of hair color can be amplified by exposing bleached hair to sunlight.
- This method works slowly through several applications. Try to be patient.
Step 3. Make a tea with turmeric, calendula, and chamomile
Turmeric is commonly used to dye fabrics as well.
- Add turmeric, calendula, and chamomile in equal proportions to the boiling water.
- Let it dissolve for 20 minutes, then strain.
- Apply to hair, leave for 15-20 minutes, then rinse.
- Repeat as desired for best results.
Step 4. Create bright highlights with rhubarb roots and water
We recommend that you use dried rhubarb root for this method.
- Simmer 3-4 tablespoons of dried rhubarb root in about 1 liter of water for 20 minutes. Do not inhale the vapor.
- Do not touch this concoction overnight and strain it the next morning.
- Pour this mixture into your hair and collect it with a bucket. Repeat 2-3 times.
- Let it dry naturally without rinsing it off.
Method 3 of 3: Highlighting Red Colors and Highlights
Step 1. Amp up the red with peppers and rose seeds
Paprika is a spice that can amplify red or add red highlights to hair.
- Make tea from rose seeds. Brew the rose seeds in boiling water.
- Let the tea cool.
- Make a paste of tea and peppers and apply it to your hair. Maybe you can use the help of an applicator brush. You can buy it at a beauty supply store.
- Leave this paste on your hair for at least 30 minutes then rinse.
Step 2. Apply beet and carrot juice to hair
This method is simple but needs to be repeated several times to get the desired result.
- Mix beet and carrot juice in a 1:1 ratio.
- Apply this mixture to the hair evenly.
- Leave this mixture in your hair for at least 60 minutes before rinsing it off.
- This method is the most effective for strengthening red hair color.
- On blonde hair, the result tends to be a light strawberry blonde shade.
Step 3. Use rose seeds to add a bit of red to your hair
You can do this by making a strong herbal tea from dried rose seeds.
- Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Add one cup of rose seeds.
- Let the rose seeds dissolve until the water turns a deep red color.
- Cool this concoction and then strain it.
- Massage it into your hair and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off.
- Repeat if necessary.
Tips
