If you or your kids are fans of Harry Potter or other fantasy films, you may want to make a wand. You can also make wills for religious ceremonies. This is an easy and fun activity that requires a few tools and materials, so check out the different ideas and approaches below.

Step

Method 1 of 2: Making a Simple and Natural Stick of Will

Step 1. Choose a suitable stick or wooden stick

Choose the one you like the most. Some people choose wood very carefully because of its meaning or characteristics. If this idea appeals to you, you may want to spend more time and dedicate more research to finding the right wood.

Step 2. Cut the stick along the tip of your middle finger to your elbow

This is your personal cubit size.

Step 3. Peel off all the skin

Or leave some of the skin on if you prefer the gnarled, more natural look of the wand.

Step 4. Smooth the edges with a cutting knife

Do this very carefully so as not to cut your own hand. For those of you who make wands for fun (for example, Harry Potter fans), you can stop here if you want. Your will is done.

Step 5. Make decorations for your wand if you wish

If you want to make a friendship token or want to use your wand for a religious ceremony, you can add an object that has important meaning to you. These items can include crystals, a number of mixed herbs, or various types of magic stones. Use these things and rub them on the sticks. You can also paste it if you want.

If you're making friendship tokens, it's a good idea to look up the meanings of wood and herbs so you can reflect on the nature of your friendship through the meanings of the plants you use

Step 6. Also make sure to use sandpaper to make your stick smooth

You may also want to paint or color it. You can use any color. Carving designs on wood can also be done, but this requires a lot of skill and patience and should not be done carelessly.

Step 7. Done

Method 2 of 2: Making a Smooth Will Stick Like in a Movie

Step 1. Find the ingredients

You will need a cylindrical log (roughly inch in diameter), a second cylinder rod or cylindrical peg (roughly inch in diameter, as it must fit snugly into the rod of the first cylinder), wood spool (sometimes called a chair spool or decorative spool), wood glue, saw, sandpaper, and drill with a drill bit according to the cylindrical dowel you are using.

Step 2. Cut the cylindrical log

This will form the main body of the will. The length is up to you (in the Harry Potter films, Hagrid's wand is 16 inches long but some wands can be around 9 inches). Measure and cut using a saw. You can sand and round the edges with sandpaper if you wish.

Step 3. Cut the wooden skein

This bobbin will form part of the handle. Usually you will get two handles from one bobbin. Cut where you think is right with a saw.

Step 4. Make a hole in the cylinder rod

Drill a hole in the center of the two handles and the main part of the stick where the two will join, all the way to the center of the bobbin. Be careful that the drill is straight and do not use a drill bit that is too large for the peg you are going to insert.

Step 5. Insert the cylinder peg

Using a much thinner cylindrical rod or cylindrical peg pre-cut to size, coat the peg with glue and insert it into the handle hole. After that, insert the other end into the hole in the main part of the stick. Push together until they are firmly attached. If the rods or pegs are difficult to fit, you can use a hammer or other heavy object to gently tap them into the holes.

Step 6. Add the final details

Remove any remaining glue and sand away any rough areas. You can also paint or color the wills however you like. You can use tools such as a knife or screwdriver, to gently tap it into the wooden handle (as in the Elder Wand in Harry Potter). Polymer clay can also be added to a will (before painting or coloring) to make it look more like a will in film, if you have the skills to sculpt and texture it. Once the details you want are added, your will is done.

Tips

  • Some types of wood have special meanings; for example, oak stands for strength and resilience, water willow for flexibility and contemplation (be careful, Peking willow symbolizes sadness), jeruju for hope and hazel for knowledge. These meanings are very general and may not accurately reflect the meaning you assign to a particular tree. The meaning of the tree depends on whether you take it from friendship/love lists, natural or magical practices, from stories passed on to your family or simply from your feelings about the tree. All of these reasons are appropriate, as long as you choose them based on your feelings.
  • If there are lumps or bumps on the stems you selected, you can grind them quickly and slowly to smooth them out.
  • If you can't find a crystal or don't know what kind of magic stone it is, try a herbal plant bag; Some good herbs include rosemary for remembrance, lavender for devotion, sage for wisdom, violet for true happiness, enggu for clear vision, laurel for glory and thyme for courage and strength. Place your wand with the herbs of your choice and let it sit for a while so that it can absorb the character of the plant.

Warning

  • Whatever you do, don't use the knife at you; always use in the opposite direction.
  • There is a big difference between playing Harry Potter and bewitching other people on a whim and insulting one's beliefs; be careful not to do the second one.
  • Don't hit people with your wand.
  • Don't throw or point your wand threateningly at anyone!
  • Don't use curry powder in your herb bag.
