Dowsing wands are used to locate groundwater sources, metal content, lost items, and earth energy channels. Some people use this stick to communicate with the dead. The classic dowsing wand forked like the letter Y, but the modern wand uses two sticks that are shaped like an 'L'.

Method 1 of 2: Using a Two-Pronged Stick
Step 1. Find a tree branch that looks like the letter 'Y'
These branches can be from trees, shrubs, or from any wood source. Look for branches that are at least 31 cm long. Make sure the branches are the same length, so that your sticks are balanced.
- Try to find two branched branches that have broken on the ground. If you see a perfect Y-shaped branch still growing on the tree, please break it off and use the branch.
- If a branch is broken from a tree, do so carefully. Do not carelessly break a tree branch that is still alive. Think about the tree, the surroundings and the reason you made this dowsing stick. Leave something you have in lieu of the branch you took.
Step 2. Locate the branch in the same location where it is used
If you want to use this stick to explore the forest, or look for water sources in the mountains, look for tree branches that are nearby. Some dowsers even choose branches from certain trees, and many prefer to use sticks freshly cut from the tree.
Witch-hazel hazel and boughs are widely used in Europe and America, as are willows and peaches. Most of these branches are widely used because they are light and porous, many believe that the sticks of these trees easily absorb the steam rising from the metal or water in the soil, so the ends of the sticks do not fork and point to the source
Step 3. Decorate your dowsing sticks
You can use the sticks exactly the same as when you first cut them, but you can also give the sticks a personal touch. This is especially suitable if you will be dowsing more than once, or will be giving it as a gift. Carve the wood with a knife (carefully!), decorate with beads or other decorations around the wood, or even paint it with paint.
Roll the cloth around the handle for easy grip. Look for fabrics that have good motifs so that they also serve as decorations
Step 4. Hold one branch in each hand
Point the dowsing wand (bottom of the letter Y) away from you on an extended hand. Make sure the second branch is parallel to the ground or tilted slightly down. Learn the correct way to use a dowsing stick!
Method 2 of 2: Using Twisted Wire
Step 1. Prepare two wires of the same length (50 cm)
The material can be anything (brass, copper, iron, etc.) the main thing is strong but can be bent. For convenience, try cutting the hanger wire in half, or straighten it by removing the hook.
- Choose stick material according to purpose and availability. Brass and copper are widely used because they do not rust. If you have a wire fence or an idle coat hanger, there's no harm in wearing it.
- Use strong pliers to cut the wire to size. The actual length of the wire does not have to be 50 cm. Just make sure the wand is long enough to dive in on its own and is comfortable to hold.
Step 2. Bend each wire into an 'L' shape
If the length of the wire is 50 cm, bend it about 13 cm from one end. Bend the wire until it forms a 90 degree angle. The short leg of the stick is the handle. While the long legs will swoop, cross and guide you towards the source you are looking for.
Step 3. Create the handle
The handle should cover the short legs of the stick. This grip will protect your hands and make the stick easy to hold. There is no special way to make this handle. Just use what's available.
- Use a wooden peg with a hole in the center and insert it into the leg of the stick. Alternatively, glue several cotton rolls around the stick legs with glue until they form a cylinder.
- Use a pen. Remove all the contents and cover the pen and then insert the wire into the pen shell. You can also use a drinking straw.
- Wrap the fabric around each short leg of the dowsing stick. Tie with a rubber band or safety pin.
Step 4. Hold one stick in each hand
To do dowsing, hold the stick by the short leg, so the long leg is parallel to the ground. Hold the stick slightly loosely so that it can move left and right. Hold the sticks at arm's length from the body and each stick is about 23 cm apart. Remember, the stick should be parallel to the ground or down slightly. - The stick rests on the index finger, while the tip of the handle rests on the base of the hand.
- Do not grip the handle tightly, because the stick must be able to move left and right freely. However, you can cover your hands for a more stable grip.
Warning
- Coat the ends of the sticks to prevent someone from being poked by them. Be sure not to point the sharp end of the wire at anyone.
- Don't get your hopes up on a dowsing stick. These wands are great for exploring forests and looking for unseen sources, but they are not sufficiently durable in certain high-pressure situations that exist in the modern world.
