Skype is a program that can be used to make phone calls and video calls. Before you can use Skype, you must create a new account on the Skype website or use your Microsoft or Facebook account. A new Skype account is created from within the Skype app itself. Read more below.

Method 1 of 6: Creating a Skype Account
Step 1. Go to the Skype registration page
Visit https://login.skype.com/account/signup-form. If you already have a Microsoft or Facebook account, skip this section to the Download and Install Skype section.
Step 2. Fill in your name and email address
In the First Name field, enter your first name. In the Last name field, enter your last name. In the Your email address field, enter your email address. In the Repeat email field, enter your email address again.
Step 3. Select the language in Skype
Scroll down. In the Profile information section, next to Language, select the language to use in Skype.
You can also fill in other information, if you want
Step 4. Choose a Skype name
In the Skype Name field, type the name you want to use in Skype, and then click the ? button. You will be notified if the Skype name is available. Otherwise, several alternative names will appear.
Skype name must be at least 6 characters, letters or numbers. Names must start with a letter, must not contain spaces or punctuation
Step 5. Choose a password
In the Password field, type a password. Make sure you're easy to remember but not too predictable. In Repeat password, type your password again.
- Password length is 6-20 characters, may be letters or numbers.
- You can also write down your password on a piece of paper, just in case you forget it.
Step 6. Decide if you want to receive emails about Skype
If you want to receive emails about Skype, check the By email box. If not, uncheck it.
Step 7. Type in the letters and numbers you see in the image
Skype uses captcha as a security measure to prevent computers from automatically creating accounts. Type the letters or numbers you see in the image in the Type the text above here field.
If you're having trouble reading the image, click the Refresh button. Click Listen to have the letter or number spoken for you
Step 8. Click I agree - Continue
You are now ready to download and install Skype.
Method 2 of 6: Downloading and Installing Skype on Windows
Step 1. Download Skype
From a web browser, visit https://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/. Click the Get Skype button. The Skype installation file will begin downloading.
On the Download Skype page, you can download Skype for your device by clicking the device button at the top of the page
Step 2. Open the Skype installation file
Locate the downloaded SkypeSetup.exe file, then double-click it to start the installation process.
Step 3. Choose your language
In the Installing Skype window, under Select your language, click the dropdown menu, and then click the language to use in Skype.
Step 4. Select the Skype start option
If you want Skype to start when the computer starts, check Run Skype when the computer starts. If not, uncheck it. Click I agree - next.
The More Options option is used to select the directory where Skype is installed and determine whether Skype should create a shortcut icon on the desktop
Step 5. Decide whether you want to install Skype's Click to Call feature
This feature will add a Skype icon next to the phone number on the web. You can press this icon to make a call using Skype. If you want to use this feature, leave the box checked. If not, uncheck it. Click Continue.
Step 6. Decide if Bing will be your default search engine
If you want to use Bing as the default search engine in your browser, check Make Bing my search engine. If not, uncheck it.
Selecting this option will make Bing the default search engine in all browsers
Step 7. Choose whether MSN will be the main page in the browser
If you want your browser to open MSN every time you open a new window or tab in your browser, check Make MSN my homepage. If not, uncheck it. Click Continue.
- If you installed an antivirus program, you may be prompted to confirm the installation. If not, click Yes to continue. As long as you download Skype from the official site, the installation will be safe.
- Once the Skype installation is complete, the Skype login screen will open.
Method 3 of 6: Downloading and Installing Skype on Mac OS X
Step 1. Download Skype
From a web browser, visit https://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/. Click the Get Skype button. The Skype installation file will begin downloading.
On the Download Skype page, you can download Skype for your device by clicking the device button at the top of the page
Step 2. Open the Skype DMG file
Locate the downloaded Skype.dmg file, then double-click it to open it.
Step 3. Install Skype
In the Skype window, click and drag Skype.app to the Applications directory. Skype is installed in the Applications directory.
Method 4 of 6: Sign in to Skype
Step 1. Open Skype
Step 2. Click Skype Name
Step 3. Enter your Skype name and password
The Skype name is the Skype name you have selected and not your email address.
Step 4. Click Sign in
Skype will save your login information the next time you open Skype.
Method 5 of 6: Sign in to Skype Using a Microsoft Account
Step 1. Open Skype
Step 2. Click Microsoft Account
Step 3. Enter your Microsoft account and password
Your Microsoft account is the email address used to create your Microsoft account.
Step 4. Click Sign in
Skype will save your login information the next time you open Skype.
Method 6 of 6: Sign in to Skype Using Facebook Account
Step 1. Open Skype
Step 2. Click Sign in with Facebook
It's in the lower-right side of the Skype window.
Step 3. In the Facebook login window, enter the phone number or email address and the password you used to log into Facebook
Step 4. Click Log in
Step 5. Decide whether you will automatically log in using Facebook every time you run Skype
If you want Skype to automatically sign in via Facebook when you start Skype, click Sign me in when Skype starts.

Step 6. Complete the sign-in process
Click Log In with Facebook.
Step 7. Give Skype permission to use your Facebook account
Click Allow to allow Skype to access your Facebook account.
By granting permission, Skype can send you posts, have access to your news feed, and access Facebook chats
Step 8. Click Get Started
Step 9. Read and accept Skype's terms of use
Read Skype's terms of use, then click I agree - continue. Skype will use Facebook to sign in the next time you open Skype.
