You don't need a professional makeup artist to get the smoky eye look you've always wanted. Check out this article with step-by-step instructions on how to create an edgy look for an evening outdoors.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Preparing Your Face
Step 1. Wash and dry your face
Use a makeup remover and a beauty cotton swab to remove any remaining makeup, dirt, and oil from your skin.
Use a small amount of facial moisturizer on your skin to moisturize and make your makeup last longer
Step 2. Use your regular foundation or concealer
Use both before applying eye makeup, and make sure to apply foundation lightly in the crease of the eye.
Part 2 of 2: Making Smoky Eyes
Step 1. Apply cream shadow first
Use your fingers or an eye shadow brush to apply a black or dark gray to your crease, covering the top of your eyebrow to your crease.
Cream shadow will be the base, and help powder eye shadow to last longer on the eyes
Step 2. Cover the cream shadow with powdered shadow of the same color
Look for eye shadow in black, dark gray, or dark blue, and apply makeup to the skin in gentle tapping motions, using your brush.
Use an eye shadow brush with real hair if possible. If you don't have a brush, use your index finger
Step 3. Use a blending brush to blend the colors in the crease of the eye
Blending brushes have thinner bristles than regular brushes and are designed to create an airbrushed effect.
Step 4. Define your brow bone
Apply a gold or skin tone with an eye shadow brush or your index finger on the lower arch of your brow. You can apply a little shadow with a shimmer to the inside of your eyes for a brighter effect.
Step 5. Use dark gray, dark blue, or black eyeliner
Apply your eyeliner on the upper lash line and the outer side of the lower lash line.
Step 6. Finish this look with mascara
Apply 2-3 coats of black or gray mascara on the upper lashes. For a more dramatic look, add a layer of mascara to the outer part of your lower lashes.

Tips
- Match your smoky eye style with your natural lip color. Try using a colorless gloss or lipstick in coral, peach, or bright pink. Use a color that is similar to your lip color to avoid looking too much.
