Changing the color of your eyebrows will greatly affect your appearance – contrasting brow colors can give a bold and mysterious look; dark eyebrow color can make eyebrows look fuller and fuller; and an eyebrow color that is similar to hair color can give a natural and balanced look. Although coloring eyebrows is a fairly simple process, using the dye on the sensitive skin around the eyes, and very close to the eyes, can be a little dangerous. Make sure you follow all instructions very carefully and, when in doubt, go to someone who is a professional in this field!

Part 1 of 3: Choosing the Right Dye
Step 1. Do not use hair dye
Colorants formulated for use on the scalp are too harsh for the skin around the eyes. You can damage the fragile skin around your eyes or even burn the surface of your eyebrows.
- Look for a beard color product or a semi-permanent eyebrow dye.
- Beard coloring products are usually available in a variety of neutral colors and are designed to color fine hair, such as the hair on the eyebrows.
Step 2. Choose a darker shade to make the brows appear more defined and look fuller
Dyeing your brows dark will improve the shape of your brows and can make them look thicker and fuller – perfect for people with very thin or sparse brows. You can try coloring your eyebrows two shades darker if you want to add a dramatic look.
- Try not to choose a shade that's drastically darker than your natural brow color - your eyebrows will look too dark and fake and your natural brow roots will be clearly visible as new eyebrow hair grows.
- Some beauticians recommend matching the color of your eyebrows to the darkest hair on your head as much as possible.
Step 3. Paint your eyebrows a shade or two lighter if your dark hair has been dyed blonde
If you've made major changes to your hair color, your dark eyebrows will stand out. If your eyebrows are black, try coloring them dark brown. Again, try not to stray too far from your natural brow color so that your eyebrows don't look weird as the roots grow.
Keep in mind that coloring eyebrows in contrasting colors is a trend now. Therefore, you can leave your thick and dark eyebrows for a while
Part 2 of 3: Preparing to Paint the Eyebrows
Step 1. Be aware of the risks
In America, none of the dyes-not even products marketed as eyebrow dyes-are FDA-approved for use on eyebrows or eyelashes. Every country should have such oversight institutions. You may have an allergic reaction or the dye will damage the sensitive skin around the eyes. Dyes can be irritating and, if they come into contact with the eyes, have the potential to cause blindness.
- If you decide to color your eyebrows, be very careful not to get the dye in your eyes. Apply a small amount of dye to make it less likely that the dye will drip from the applicator and get into the eye.
- Prepare two bottles of sterile eye irrigating solution to rinse the eyes if the eye is exposed to the dye. Rinse your eyes with all of the solution in the vial and, if the burning sensation in your eyes persists, use up all of the solution in the second bottle.
- Make sure you test the dye on the skin (preferably on the back of the neck or the inside of the upper arm). If your skin doesn't react within two days of applying the dye, then you can color your eyebrows without worrying about an allergic reaction.
Step 2. Wash your face with a facial cleanser or soap
Eyebrow dye should be applied to a clean area. Gently scrub the brows to remove oil and dirt. If your skin or eyebrows are oily, the dye won't work.
- Tie your hair away from your face, either by tying it into a ponytail or using a headband or bobby pin.
- Also, make sure you remove makeup on your face so you can clearly see the discoloration.
Step 3. Apply a generous amount of petroleum jelly or balsam around the outside of the eyebrows
Use a cotton stick to spread the petroleum jelly on the skin around the eyebrows (but make sure not to about eyebrows). Petroleum jelly will act as a barrier to ensure that the skin around your eyebrows doesn't get stained and helps prevent the dye from getting into your eyes. Petroleum jelly can also reduce skin irritation.
Step 4. Prepare the eyebrow dye according to the directions on the package
Instructions for mixing dyes vary depending on the brand of product purchased, but the result is the same. The eyebrow dye mixture has the consistency of a thick paste. If the dye is runny or runny, it means the dye was not mixed properly. The thick composition of the dye will keep the dye from sticking to the eyebrows and not flowing into the eyes.
- If the coloring product consists of two tubes that you must mix, only use about a pea-sized amount for each tube. You won't need a lot of dye, and you can save the rest for later proofreading.
- Make the dye mixture right before you plan to use it.
Part 3 of 3: Painting Eyebrows
Step 1. Apply the dye by applying it thickly on the eyebrows
The kit contains an applicator, but you can also use a clean cotton stick or spoolie wand (shaped like a mascara applicator). Try applying a thick layer of dye to the inner half of the eyebrow (the side closest to the nose) and blending it towards the thinner end of the eyebrow.
- Make sure you apply the dye to the roots of the eyebrows and all over the eyebrows evenly.
- Apply the dye on one eyebrow evenly, then do it on the other eyebrow.
Step 2. Let stand for three minutes, removing the dye with a pointed cotton stick
Many product brands usually recommend letting it sit for 10-15 minutes, but staining in three minutes will gradually give you more control over the final color.
Use a cotton stick dipped in warm water to wipe off the coloring cream that hits the skin instead of the eyebrow hair, or to clean areas that seem to be coloring your skin. If warm water doesn't work, you can use a small amount of facial tonic to clean it
Step 3. Wipe the dye on the eyebrows with a dry cotton swab
Close your eyes to prevent the dye from getting into your eyes. Rub your eyebrows and check the color. If the dye doesn't color your brows, repeat the coloring process for three minutes.
- Do not use the dye more than two or three times, as it can dry out the skin or damage the skin.
- When you reach the desired color, wipe off the dye with a dry cotton swab. Then clean the eyebrows with a wet cotton swab that is given a liquid that removes the remaining dye to stop the coloring process.
- Rinse or clean the eyebrows with warm water.
Step 4. Examine your eyebrows in the mirror to see if there are any uncolored areas
You can use a cotton stick to color in the missing parts.
Step 5. Pinch the eyebrows using tweezers or wax into the desired shape
It's important not to pluck your eyebrows before painting them, as doing so can cause irritation and infection.
Step 6. Don't worry if your brow color isn't exactly what you want it to be
Painted brows usually start to fade after a week so they won't be as intense as the first color. If you can't wait a week, apply a dab of clarifying shampoo (a type of shampoo that cleans more thoroughly than regular shampoo) using a clean toothbrush or spoolie wand on your eyebrows. Leave for 60 seconds, then rinse. Clarifying shampoo will remove the oil and some of the dye from the eyebrows.
- If you notice that the skin under your eyebrows is getting dyed, apply an oil or silicone-based makeup remover to a cotton swab and gently rub it over your brows. If any of the dye gets on your skin, it will stick to the cotton, and your eyebrows will turn a shade lighter after drying.
- You can also make a paste mixture using baking soda and your usual shampoo in a 1:1 ratio. Apply this mixture on your eyebrows using a clean brush and let it sit for a few minutes. You'll likely need to do this a few times, but this paste mix will reduce the appearance of your brow color.
Step 7.
Tips
Buy two eyebrow dye products. Use one of them to do a skin test. Mix an adequate amount of dye according to the directions and apply a small amount on the inside of the arm or behind the neck. If any of these areas show sensitivity or irritation, you may be allergic or sensitive to the ingredients in the dye and you should not use it on your eyebrows
Warning
- Do not leave the dye on the eyebrows for longer than recommended on the package directions. This can increase the risk of irritation or result in eyebrow hair loss.
- The United States Food and Drug Administration (U. S. Food and Drug Administration) prohibits the use of hair dye to color eyebrows because of the risk of blindness. To be safe, use a product that is specifically designed to color your eyebrows.
