If you've just colored your eyebrows and think they're too dark, you may be wondering what to do next. Do not panic, the color of the eyebrows will fade after the first week due to the skin's natural oils and facial cleansing activities. However, if you still don't like the color after 1 week, there are things you can do to get rid of the dye. Try washing your eyebrows with a clarifying shampoo or a combination of baking soda and shampoo. Facial freshener or lemon juice can also be used to lighten the color of the eyebrows.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Lightening Eyebrows
Step 1. Scrub your eyebrows using a clarifying shampoo
The clarifying shampoo is designed to strip residue from hair, so it can be used to remove dye from eyebrows. However, be careful not to get the shampoo into your eyes! After 60 seconds, wipe your eyebrows, then wash your face as usual to remove any residue.
Step 2. Apply a paste made of baking soda and shampoo in equal proportions
Mix 1 part baking soda and 1 part shampoo you normally use in a small bowl. Stir the mixture until it forms a thick paste. Use a foundation brush to apply the paste on the eyebrows. After a few minutes, carefully rinse off the paste and make sure it doesn't get in your eyes. This process can be repeated if necessary.
Step 3. Apply lemon juice on the eyebrows
In the morning, squeeze a little lemon juice on a cotton swab and apply it on the eyebrows. Be careful not to get the lemon juice in your eyes! Leave the lemon juice on your eyebrows until you wash your face at night. Spend time outdoors while the lemon juice is on your brows as the sun can enhance their brightening effect.
Step 4. Scrub your eyebrows using a facial freshener
Purchase a face freshener, such as witch hazel, from a convenience store or beauty supply store. Pour a little toner on the cotton, then rub the cotton on the eyebrows gently to lighten the color. This process can be repeated as many times as needed, but keep in mind that toners contain alcohol, which can dry out the skin.
Step 5. Try an eyebrow gel to lighten the look
Choose an eyebrow gel that is at least one shade lighter than the eyebrow dye. Use an eyebrow brush to gently apply it to your eyebrows. Make sure to comb the entire eyebrow so that the color is even. Allow the gel to dry, then repeat if you want an even brighter brow look.
Step 6. Use facial bleach as a last resort
It's a good idea to ask an expert to do this step, rather than trying it on your own. Go to a hair salon and ask your stylist to apply a facial bleach, a strong hydrogen peroxide first aid kit, to your eyebrows to lighten them. Your stylist will put a few drops of bleach on a cotton swab and then rub it over your eyebrows to remove the dye.
Make sure the bleach doesn't get into your eyes
Method 2 of 2: Remove Eyebrow Dye from Skin
Step 1. Use a makeup remover solution on your face
Sometimes, your eyebrows may appear too dark because the dye has penetrated the skin instead of just your brow hair. Opt for a silicone or oil-based makeup remover solution to remove the dye from the skin. Dip a cotton ball in the makeup remover solution, then gently wipe it over your eyebrows. You may be able to see the dye transfer from the skin to the cotton ball.
Be careful not to get the makeup remover solution into your eyes
Step 2. Try the dye cleaning solution you have
Several sets of eyebrow dye are available with a cleaning solution, in case the dye gets on your hands. Read the instructions for use carefully as this product is generally not intended for use on the eyebrows or face. Dip a cotton swab in the dye cleaning solution, then use it to scrub the stained area. Wash the area with soap and warm water after the color has worn off to remove any residue from the dye cleaning solution.
Step 3. Scrub the stained skin with toothpaste
If it gets on the skin, the eyebrow dye can be removed using toothpaste. Dispense a small amount of non-gel toothpaste on top of the toothbrush. Scrub the stained area with a toothbrush to remove the color. Repeat this step if necessary. Then, rinse off the toothpaste and wash the stained skin with soap and warm water.
Step 4. Try an exfoliating product on your face or body
Exfoliating products, such as lava soap and face or body scrubs, can help remove eyebrow dye that has stuck to the skin. Wet the skin, then add a small amount of lava soap or an exfoliating product to the area. Scrub the stained area of skin, rinse, and repeat until the color is gone. If using this method on your face, be sure to use an exfoliating product designed for facial skin and make sure it doesn't get in your eyes.
Step 5. Use a nail polish remover solution on your hands or arms
If the eyebrow dye gets on your hands, arms, or any part of your body other than your face, you can remove the stain with a nail polish remover solution. Dip a cotton ball in a solution of nail polish remover or isopropyl alcohol. Gently rub the cotton ball on the stained skin area. This process may have to be repeated several times to completely remove the stain. Wash the area with warm water and soap after using a nail polish remover or alcohol.
Step 6. Apply WD-40 on the stained body part other than the face
Do not use WD-40 on the face, only use this liquid on the hands, arms and other parts of the body. Spray a small amount of WD-40 on a cotton ball. Rub a cotton ball on the stained skin to remove the dye. Be sure to wash and rinse the stained area thoroughly after using WD-40 to remove any residue that could irritate the skin.
