If you're new to dyeing your hair but don't like the results, don't worry! There are several steps you can take to lighten or even remove hair dye. Instead of sticking with a hair color you don't like, remove the dye with a color bleach. After that, you can fix your hair color or leave it lighter. If you prefer to remove your permanent hair dye gradually and more naturally, try using dish soap, vitamin C shampoo, lemon juice, or baking powder for your shampoo. Over time, these ingredients will fade your hair color!

Method 1 of 2: Using Color Blur
Step 1. Buy a bleaching product
Visit a local beauty shop and buy a hair color remover. This product works by reducing the molecules of the hair dye, making it easier to clean.
- If you have very long hair, you may need to buy 2 packs at a time.
- Always read the product instructions before starting to use it.
Step 2. Shake 2 bottles of product packaging for 30 seconds
Open the packaging of the color bleaching product and remove 2 bottles of liquid from it. One of the bottles is the bleach and the other is supposed to be the activator. Pour the liquid from the small bottle into the large bottle and close it tightly. Shake the bottle for 30 seconds until the two liquids are mixed.
Some products may recommend that you pour the liquid from both bottles into a non-metallic bowl and stir until combined

Step 3. Apply the liquid to your hair
If you have long hair, divide it into 3-5 sections with bobby pins. Pour the watery liquid into your hair and massage it into each section of your hair until it's completely saturated. Because this liquid is very runny, you have to mix it quickly so it doesn't run down your fingers.
- If you have short hair, you can apply the liquid directly to your hair.
- If you want to distribute the liquid more evenly, try pouring it into a bowl first and then dipping the brush in it. Run the brush into the hair shaft until it is coated with liquid.
Step 4. Leave the product on your hair for about 20-60 minutes
Follow the recommended time on the product packaging, usually between 20 and 60 minutes. The bleach will remove the dye from your hair during this time.

Step 5. Wash and rinse hair for 20 minutes
Rinse your hair with warm water and massage the shampoo all over. Rinse off the shampoo, then massage the shampoo into your hair again. Continue this process for 20 minutes. You may need to wash your hair 4 times for 20 minutes.
- You should rinse and shampoo your hair thoroughly because this process will remove the dye from your hair.
- Choose a shampoo formulated for your hair type and avoid color-enhancing or color-protecting shampoos. For example, if your hair is dry and brittle, choose a shampoo that is moisturizing.
Step 6. Do a deep conditioning treatment for 20 minutes to protect hair
Massage your usual conditioner or deep conditioner into your hair for a few minutes. After that, put on a shower cap and let the conditioner sit on your hair for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
- Consider wearing a hairdryer hood while using the conditioner. This cap can increase the conditioner's ability to nourish the hair while increasing its overall benefits for your hair.
- If your hair is very dry or brittle, just allow it to dry naturally without a hairdryer. Drying your hair with heat can damage your hair even more.

While you can try dyeing your hair again at home, it's a good idea to consider visiting a salon if you're still not happy with the results. Ask a professional hair stylist to change or adjust your hair color to what you want.

Step 1. Mix vitamin C powder with shampoo to lighten hair color
Blend 12 pills of vitamin C until smooth and then add them to the shampoo you usually use. Massage this vitamin C shampoo into your hair shaft and leave it on for 30 minutes. After that, rinse your hair and apply conditioner.
- Vitamin C will open the hair cuticle. That way, it will be easier for you to clean the hair dye.
- For effective results, use a clarifying shampoo that also helps cleanse your hair.
- You will have to use this shampoo several times because the dye won't come off after one wash.
Step 2. Use a commercial anti-dandruff shampoo for shampooing
Buy an anti-dandruff shampoo that contains the active ingredient selenium sulfide. Wet hair and then apply shampoo to coat the entire hair shaft. After that, rinse the shampoo with hot water.
- Keep in mind that anti-dandruff shampoos can damage your hair if you don't use conditioner afterward.
- Selenium sulfide will enter the hair and clean it deeply, causing the dye to fade gradually.
- Again, you will have to use this shampoo several times to remove all the dye from your hair.
Step 3. Use dish soap to gradually remove the dye
Choose your favorite dish soap or mild natural dish soap. Massage dish soap into damp hair like regular shampoo. After that, rinse with hot water.

Lemon juice is very acidic and will remove some of the permanent hair dye. Squeeze enough lemon juice to wet the hair. After that, leave for 1 hour before rinsing with hot water.
Keep in mind, you may have to do this treatment several times until you see a clear difference in hair color
Variation:
To remove the dye in a slightly gentler way, use apple cider vinegar instead of lemon juice. Apple cider vinegar will not change the pH balance of your hair.
Tips
- To keep your hair from drying out, use a lot of conditioner when using homemade ingredients. For example, mix conditioner with fresh lemon juice before applying it to your hair.
- The longer you dye your hair, the harder it will be to remove the color. So try removing your hair color as soon as you decide you want to change it.

- If your hair dye is completely permanent, the color may not be able to be removed even with the methods above.
