Step
Method 1 of 2: Dress Up Like A Dog
Step 1. Choose your favorite dog breed
Oftentimes, dog owners will choose a dog breed that is similar to them. This may be a good start when you are deciding which dog breed to emulate. If you have a similar appearance to a certain breed of dog, you can use it to customize your costume.
- If you have curly hair, you can imitate a Cocker Spaniel or a Poodle.
- People with straight hair can imitate the appearance of attractive short dogs, such as the Doberman and Dalmantian.
- Thin people can dress up like Greyhounds or Whippets.
- For a tough, fierce look, try dressing up like a Pitbull or Bulldog.
Step 2. Wear clothes that look like your dog of choice, but still look cool
The costume you wear should be different from your normal Halloween costume because you don't have to wear a full-body dog costume. However, you must emphasize that you, yourself, are actually a dog.
- Wear shorts or leggings paired with a shirt in the color of your favorite dog.
- You can even choose to wear a large short skirt or tutu if you want to imitate a poodle or another fluffy dog, such as a Pomerian.
- Add a little embellishment to your outfit to emphasize the impression that you are a dog. Try adding a pinch of faux fur on the shoulders, or staining the surface of your shirt.
Step 3. Put on a pair of fake dog ears
One of the best options for imitating the appearance of an animal is to wear a Spirit Hood product. This product is a large, wide-sided fur hat that ends down with a dog paw print pattern on the bottom. This is a great costume to start with imitating a dog costume.
- You can also buy dog ear headbands or make your own by attaching a fleece cloth to the headband using glue.
- If your hair is long enough to put in a ponytail, you can make ears out of your own hair.
Step 4. Paint your face to look like a dog
You should focus on painting the shape of a dog's nose and mouth by coloring the nose with black, brown, or pink paint, depending on the breed of dog you choose. Also, create a muzzle using a lighter color between your nose and upper lip. In this section, you can add a little sideburns.
- For a funnier look, draw a red or pink tongue on one side of your lower lip so that it hangs down as if your tongue is hanging down. Draw a line around the tongue painting with a thin black line.
- You can imitate a dog's skin pattern by creating a large black dot in one eye.
Step 5. Turn your hands and feet into dog paws
If you use a Spirit Hood product, the front of your palm is completely covered. If not, you can use a pair of oven mitts that can be worn straight or decorated with fur or leather. Boots are very commonly used as part of a costume. Look for boots that match the appearance of your dog of choice.
- Opt for tall, flat boots to mimic a short-haired dog.
- Look for boots with fur accessories to mimic a long-haired dog.
Step 6. Complete your costume with a tail
No dog costume is complete without a tail. Depending on the breed of dog you choose, you may need to use a light or heavy fur false tail. You can make it from fleece or knitting yarn of the appropriate color.
- For a fluffy tail, take 10 pieces of knitted fabric 30 cm long and tie them together in the middle to make it look like a tassel. Make some tassel heads. Tie the thread that connects to the center of the tassel to a thread slightly longer than the tail. Tie this section to a belt or use another knit fabric to wrap around your hips to attach it.
- Make a tail out of fleece or other material of choice. Cut the material 15 cm wide with a free length. Roll the material from the tail end, until it meets at a point at the top which should remain open. Sew the edges together to create a long cone shape. Fill the tail with cotton and place a flexible wire in the middle if you want to be able to change the shape of the tail. Sew the top, then sew an additional loop to use as the belt insert.
Step 7. Wear accessories to make your costume stand out
The accessories you wear should make your costume come alive. Think about the different types of accessories and accessories you can add to your costume.
- You may want to make a neckband or at least a leashes.
- Use a dog name tag with your name on it. This item can be purchased at a pet store.
- Alternatively, you can get creative with a tie to make your dog's costume look classier.
- Some attachments you can use are large sticks or bones for dogs.
Method 2 of 2: Act like a Dog
Step 1. Find a dog breed that fits your personality
Understand your own characteristics and determine which breed of dog behaves most like yours. Do you get nervous easily or are you very confident? Are you social or antisocial? Friendly or irritable? Hard working or lazy? Match your answers to the characteristics of a particular dog breed to determine which one is the best fit for emulation.
- Working dogs belong to the group of sheepdogs such as the Colly and the Shepherd.
- Dogs that are easily nervous are usually small, such as Chihuahuas and small Poodles.
- A guard dog may suit your characteristics. If so, then you can emulate Rottweiler and Boxer.
- Very friendly people do well to imitate dog breeds like Labrador or Retriever.

- Cry for attention.
