Micro SD is a memory card with a large storage capacity that is often used in tablets and mobile phones. The mobile device will "mount" the SD card when it recognizes it, and render it so that the card can be accessed. Most devices can load an SD card automatically when you insert it into the Micro SD card slot. However, if you have an Android device or a Galaxy phone, you can load the card manually from the Settings menu. If the device cannot load the SD card, make sure there is no problem with your device or SD card.

Method 1 of 3: Loading Micro SD Card on Android Device
Step 1. Insert the Micro SD card into the SD card slot on the Android device
Make sure you turn off your phone and charge it before inserting the card. Do this slowly until you hear a "click" sound. Check the device manual or contact the manufacturer if you want additional instructions for accessing the SD card slot on your device.
Step 2. Turn on the Android device
Press the button located at the bottom of the phone. If the phone doesn't turn on properly, the battery may be out of charge. Plug the phone into the charger for 15 minutes, and try again.
Step 3. Tap on “Settings” in the main menu
The "Settings" symbol is shaped like a gear. Once you click on the gear, a new screen will appear. Click on “SD and Phone Storage” present in the new screen.
Step 4. Click "Reformat"
The phone will be reformatted and ready to load the new SD card. The process only takes a few seconds. If your phone does this for longer than it should, restart your phone so that the reformatting process can take place properly.
Step 5. Select "Mount SD Card" after the device is done reformatting
The device will load the SD card and make it accessible. If there is no "Mount SD Card" option, tap "Unmount SD Card", wait for the card to be unmounted, then tap "Mount SD Card" for the card to load properly. It can also resolve system issues that Android devices may be experiencing that are preventing the SD card from loading properly.
Method 2 of 3: Loading SD Card on Galaxy Phone
Step 1. Insert the SD card into the SD slot
This slot is usually located on the left side of the phone. Enter slowly until you hear a "click" sound. Make sure the phone is fully charged before this process begins. Check the device manual or contact the manufacturer if you want additional instructions for accessing the SD card slot on your device.
Step 2. Turn on the phone
Press the button located at the bottom of the device. If the phone does not turn on, the battery may have run out of charge. Plug it into the charger for about 15 minutes, and try again.
Step 3. Tap on “Apps” on the home screen
If the phone is turned on, the home screen will be displayed. At the bottom right of the screen is a white box with "Apps" written below it. Click the icon. A new screen will be displayed.
Step 4. Click "Settings"
The "Settings" icon is shaped like a gear. Click the gear to open the next screen. A new screen will be displayed. At the top right of the screen there are three white dots. On older Galaxy phones (Galaxy 4 and earlier) it says "General" under the three dots. On newer Galaxy phones (Galaxy 5 and later), it says "More" under the three white dots. No matter which version of Galaxy phone you're using, click on the three white dots icon.
Step 5. Tap on “Storage” on the next screen
By clicking on "Storage", the last screen will be displayed. Use your finger to scroll down the screen to "Mount SD Card". Click this option and wait for the card to load. If there is no "Mount SD Card" option, tap "Unmount SD Card", and wait for the card to unmount. Next, tap on “Mount SD Card” for the card to load properly.
Method 3 of 3: Checking for Hardware Problems
Step 1. Remove the SD card from the card slot on the device
Under "Storage", scroll down until you reach the "Unmount SD Card" icon. Wait until the phone displays a message that the SD card can be safely ejected. Gently pull the card out so it doesn't break or bend.
Step 2. Check the SD card to see if there is any physical damage that prevents the phone from reading it properly
Check to see if any of the golden lines on the card are missing, and for any chipped or dented parts of the card. If the card looks physically damaged, you may need to buy a new SD card. You can buy them cheaply at computer stores.
Step 3. Reinsert the SD card into the card slot on the device
Before reinserting, gently blow on the card, or wipe it with a soft cloth. This will remove any dust particles that could potentially interfere with card reading. Do not remove and reinsert the card repeatedly because it can damage the card and ports.
Step 4. Charge the device and turn it on
Plug the device into the charger for at least 15 minutes. Next, turn on the device by pressing the button at the bottom. If your device won't turn on for some reason, charge it a little longer before you try again.
Step 5. Try reloading the SD card
The device will display the words "Mount SD Card" when you open the section under "Storage" settings. If the device still displays "Unmount SD Card", there may be a communication problem between the SD port and the phone itself. Most likely there is an internal problem that can only be solved by taking the device to the nearest mobile service.
Step 6. Test the SD card using another device if the card still won't load properly
If the card works fine on the other device, then there is a problem with the SD card slot on the first device. If the card still won't load on other devices, you may need to buy a new card. Before inserting the SD card into another device, make sure that the device is fully charged.
Tips
- Formatting the SD card should be used as a last resort if the device keeps failing to load and recognize the card. All data will be erased when you format the SD card, but doing so can fix a software issue that is preventing Android devices from recognizing the card.
- If you're always prompted to manually load your Android device every time you connect it to your computer, try downloading a third-party app that can complete the loading process automatically. Applications that can be used include "Auto Mount Your SD Card" or "doubleTwist Player".
Warning
- Do not bend the card when you remove it from the SD port. Remove slowly and according to the rules to avoid damage.
- Do not insert fingers or other objects into the SD port to fix it. This can cause severe damage to the internal parts that will make you have to buy a new phone.
- Do not remove the SD card while you are performing the process of loading (mounting), unmounting, and reformatting. This action can corrupt the data, and the card can't be used.
