This wikiHow teaches you several ways to find the file size (eg in megabytes) of photos stored on your iOS device.

Method 1 of 4: Using the Photo Investigator App
Step 1. Open the App Store
Tap the blue "App Store" app icon on one of the device's home screens.
Step 2. Touch Search
This option is at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the search bar
This bar appears at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Type "Photo Investigator" into the search field
Step 5. Tap on "photo investigator" option
This option is the first entry shown in the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Touch the GET button
It's to the right of the "Photo Investigator: View, Edit, Remove Metadata" heading.
Step 7. Touch INSTALL
Step 8. Enter the Apple ID and password
The app download will start immediately.
Step 9. Open the Photo Investigator app
This application icon is usually displayed on one of the device's home screens.
Step 10. Touch the photo icon
It's in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 11. Touch OK button
With this option, Photo Investigator can access the photos stored on the device.
Step 12. Touch All Photos
You can also touch a specific album on this page.
Step 13. Select a photo
Step 14. Pay attention to the value displayed in the "File Size" entry
This value or number is displayed on the main tab of the Photo Investigator which opens below the photo.
This number or value may be in megabytes (MB)
Method 2 of 4: Using a Computer
Step 1. Connect the iOS device to the computer
Use the USB cable that came with your device purchase to connect it to your computer.
Step 2. Open the iOS device on the computer
This process is slightly different, depending on the computer operating system you are using (Windows or Mac):
- Windows – Double-click the "My Computer" icon, then double-click the iOS device shown in the "Devices and Drives" section.
- Mac – Double-click the iOS device icon displayed on the desktop.
Step 3. Double click the " DCIM " folder
Step 4. Locate the image you want to check
Step 5. Open the detail image file
Once you find the image you want, you can open a new window that displays the file information.
- Windows – Right-click the image, then select Properties.
- Mac – Select an image, hold down the Command key, and touch I.
Step 6. Review the file size of the photo
You can see the size of the photo in an easy-to-read format (e.g. “1.67 MB”), as well as its accurate original size (e.g. “1, 761, 780 bytes”).
The size of the photo is displayed next to the " Size " or " File Size " heading
Method 3 of 4: Using the Mail App
Step 1. Open the Photos app
While you can't check the file size of a photo directly in the Photos app, you can add it to an email to check its approximate size. You don't even need to send the email to check the file size of the photo.
Step 2. Touch Albums
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch Camera Roll
You can also tap on another album on this page to narrow the search results.
Step 4. Select the desired photo
Step 5. Touch the “Share” button
It's a box-like button with an arrow coming out of the top, in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Mail
A new message window with the attached image will open.
Step 7. Touch the “To” field
Step 8. Type in your own email address
Step 9. Touch the Send button
You will be asked to select a photo size afterwards.
If you didn't add a subject for the message, you'll need to confirm that you want to send the message without a subject before continuing
Step 10. Review the value or number in the "Actual Size" entry
This value is at the bottom of the page. The number in the “Actual Size” entry can tell you the approximate file size of the selected photo.
If you select multiple photos, you'll only see the total size (not the size per photo)
Method 4 of 4: Using a Jailbroken iOS Device
This method can only be tried on jailbroken iOS devices, and allows you to view photo data directly from the Photos app. The jailbreaking process is quite complicated and will void the warranty that applies to the device. Click here for further instructions on how to jailbreak an iOS device.
Step 1. Open Cydia on the jailbroken device
You can use Cydia to install special tweaks or add-ons to the Photos app that will allow you to view detailed information on saved photos.
Step 2. Touch Search
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Type "Photo Info" into the search field
Step 4. Touch Photo Info
Step 5. Touch the Install button
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Confirm
Cydia will download and install the add-on.
Step 7. Touch Restart SpringBoard
The system will restart to complete the add-on installation.
Step 8. Select the desired photo from the Photos app
Step 9. Touch the button
It's at the bottom of the screen.
Step 10. Review the “File Size” entry
The value or number will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. Now you can find out the file size of the selected photo.
Tips
- When using the application " Mail ” on the iPad, touch the row “ CC/BCC " to display the value " Actual Size ”.
- There are various photo editing applications that can display the size of the photo. If you don't like the Photo Investigator app, just type "Exif Viewer" into the App Store search bar and review the results.
