The laws regarding British citizenship and nationality are very complex due to the long history of monarchical rule in the United Kingdom - United Kingdom or UK, being the United Kingdom of Great Britain (including England and Scotland) and Northern Ireland. However, the two basic ways to become a UK citizen are to become a naturalized citizen after living in the UK for 5 years, or by marrying a UK citizen and living in the country for 3 years. You must meet certain requirements to submit an application.

Method 1 of 4: Becoming a Naturalized Citizen
Step 1. Live in the UK
To become a naturalized citizen, you generally have to live in the UK (England, Scotland or Northern Ireland) for five years before applying for citizenship. To live in the UK, you must have a visa.
Several types of visas that allow you to stay in the UK are work visas, student visas, visas granted to family members or spouses, retirement visas, or visit visas
Step 2. Complete the application to settle in the UK
This application will ask about your visa and your current situation. If accepted, you will be allowed to stay indefinitely and not be given a specific date to leave the country as you would have to do with a visa.,
This application must be completed one year before applying for citizenship
Step 3. Have a clean criminal report
You must have a good record to be a UK citizen, although usually minor infractions won't matter.
Step 4. Decide to stay in the UK
You must plan to live in the UK if you wish to apply for naturalization as a citizen.
You must also stay in the UK for a certain number of days prior to the date of application; You may only stay 450 days outside the UK in the previous 5 years and 90 days in the past year
Step 5. Prove your English competence
You will have to prove that you can speak English, which will be discussed more extensively in the next section.

Method 2 of 4: Becoming a Citizen Through Husband/Wife
Step 1. Live in the UK (England, Scotland or Northern Ireland)
You must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years and never been out of the country for more than 270 days in that time period or 90 days in the past year. You must have a certain visa to stay in the UK. Generally, for this type of citizenship, you must have a spouse visa, but you may also be in the UK on another visa, such as a visitor visa or student visa.
Step 2. Make sure you are over 18 years old
You must be of legal age to acquire citizenship in this way in the UK.
Step 3. Have a clean record
This means that there are currently no serious crimes on your record.
Step 4. Have the ability to make decisions
This requirement is also called mentally healthy. Basically, the government wants to know that you entered the marriage and the country of your own free will.
Step 5. Prove your English skills
You will have to prove that you can speak English, which will be discussed extensively in the next section.

Method 3 of 4: Pass the Life in the UK Test
Step 1. Purchase the study guide
The guide is titled Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents, 3rd Edition.
Step 2. Understand what the scope is
Both the book and the test will cover things like how to become a citizen and what you should know about the traditions of the people of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The book also deals with law and government, so you can get to know the culture. In addition, you will also find UK events and history.
Step 3. Study for the test
Read the entire book and use it to learn what you need for the test.
Step 4. Register for the test
You must register for the test one week in advance, and the test costs a fee.
You will need an email address (email), an ID card, and a debit card to register online (online)
Step 5. Gather your materials
Bring the same ID that you used to register. You'll also need something to prove your address, such as a utility or water bill, a credit card account, bank statement, a letter from the Home Office listing your name and address, or a UK driver's licence.
You need this document to take the test. The government will not allow you to take the test without these documents, and your money will not be refunded
Step 6. Run the test
You have to go to a test center to do it.
- The test should take less than an hour. Usually you have to answer about 24 questions.
- You must answer 75% of the questions correctly to receive the test pass notification. Then you must include the letter with the application to settle or the application to become a citizen. Don't lose it, because you only get one copy of the letter.
- If you fail, you can take the test again in one week. However, you do not need to register and pay again.
Method 4 of 4: Proving English Competence
