3 Ways to Use the Warp Tool in Photoshop

In Adobe Photoshop, the Warp Tool can be used to quickly manipulate and reshape photos using a grid-like system with control points. In addition to photos, shapes and lines can also be bent. To activate the Warp Tool, select the /photo/etc layer. you want to manipulate, then click Edit > Transform > Warp.

Method 1 of 3: Activating the Warp Tool

Step 1. Open a new document in Photoshop

Load the photo you want to bend.

Step 2. Select the layer to be bent

Click the layer to be bent in the Layers panel.

If the layer is locked, as is usually the case with-j.webp" />

Step 3. If you want, select a subsection of the layer

At this point, you can use one of the Selection Tools (such as the Lasso Tool or the Rectangular Marquee Tool in the Toolbox) to select the area you want to bend. Do this step as you usually do to select some of the layers you want.

• To make your work better managed, consider creating a new layer from the selection (Ctrl+J).

• Notes:

  If you don't select anything, all the inside of the layer will be bent by itself.

Step 4. Choose Edit > Transform > Warp

This will bring up a grid above the layer or above the selected part.

Step 5. Alternatively, activate the Transform Tool by pressing Ctrl+T keys

Click Window > Options. At the far right of the Options toolbar, you'll see a button that looks like a curved grid above an arc that's also curved. Click this tool to switch from Free Transform mode to Warp mode.

With the Transform Tool active, you can also just right click on the selection outline and choose "Warp" to get the same effect

Method 2 of 3: Bending Photos

Step 1. Click and drag the grid area to manipulate the photo

When a photo is selected to be bent, a grid will automatically appear over it. Clicking and dragging any part of the grid will make the shape of the photo below it change in the direction the grid was drawn. You will need time to adjust. So, practice first before saving the photos.

Step 2. Use the control point “handles” to make the curve correct

When you bend or warp a photo with the Warp Tool, you will see several short line segments with dots at the ends. By clicking and dragging this handle, you can adjust the curvature of the bent photo.

Step 3. Open it and use the popup menu to bend a specific shape

You don't need to bend the photo manually. Just bend it using one of the preset shapes. The trick, after the photo is selected to be bent, open the Warp popup menu in the Options bar. Here, you can choose the arch style that suits your needs.

Step 4. Use the Warp option to manipulate the photo even further

In the Warp pop-up menu in the Options bar, there are several other options that can help you modify the photo you want to bend. Among others:

• Change Warp Orientation:

  the buttons are like curved grids next to the down arrow and the right arrow. This feature will reverse the orientation of the bent part to be vertical or horizontal.

• Change Reference Points:

  the button is like a black box surrounded by white squares.

• Define Warp Numerically:

  Enter a number in the Bend X and Y boxes to set the exact degree of bending of the photo.

Step 5. Finalize your edits

Once satisfied with the results, confirm the changes that have been made. There are two ways to do this:

• Just click the Enter key (or the Return key on a Mac).
• Click the checkmark button on the Options bar.
• To cancel the edit, press Esc or click the Cancel button next to the checkmark button.

Method 3 of 3: Using the Puppet Warp Tool

Step 1. Select the photo to give the puppet warp effect

Within Photoshop, the Puppet Warp Tool is a quick way to manually manipulate photos with a tool similar to the Warp Tool. To use it, follow these steps:

• Create a layer containing the photo you want to bend.
• Make sure the layer is selected in the Layers panel.
• open Edit > Puppet Warp from the Menu bar.

Step 2. Put the dots on the photo

Once the photo is selected to be bent with Puppet Warp, click on it to bring up the pins (marked with small dots). Drag one of the pins out of place to bend the section. The other pins will still lock the surrounding area and prevent the photo from being distorted.

Because of how pins work, it's a good idea to place a few pins in crucial places in your photo. For example, if you use the Puppet Warp Tool to move someone's arm, place one pin on the hand, another on the elbow, and finally on the shoulder. That way, when you slide one of the three pins, the rest of the arm doesn't change too much

Step 3. Drag the pin to manipulate the photo

Once a series of pins are placed, you can click and drag individual pins to drag them. This will bend the photo in the direction of the drag of the pin by pushing or pulling on nearby areas as the pin is shifted. It can take some time to master the Puppet Warp Tool, but once you get used to it, it can be a quick and convenient way to make adjustments.

• By selecting a point, you can use the arrow keys to make minor adjustments.
• Note that you can press the key Shift+click to select multiple points at once.

Step 4. Use the Pin Depth feature to slide parts of the photo behind it

If you want to bend a photo so that part of it moves behind the other, first select one or more pins that you want to adjust. After that, use the “up” and “down” buttons next to Pin Depth on the Options bar to move the selected section forward or behind another section.

Step 5. Use the Puppet Warp option to edit the photo

The following options in the Options bar can be used to modify how the Puppet Warp Tool works:

• Mode:

  adjust drastically what changes. "Distort" will make the photo very stretchy, while "Rigid" will make it change less.

• Expansion:

  can be used to widen or contract the outer edge of the grid formed by the pins.

• Density:

  can be used to change the distance between grid points. More dots will result in more precise changes, but can make the computer work harder. Fewer dots will make changes made faster, but less precise.

Step 6. Confirm the changes made as usual

Once you are satisfied with the result, press the key Enter to apply the changes. Alternatively, click the check mark in the Options bar.

As mentioned above, pressing the Esc key or the Cancel key in the Options bar will undo the changes made

Tips

• An easy way to warp an entire layer with Puppet Warp is to place pins in each corner of the photo. By pulling on the pins, you can quickly adjust the entire photo as needed.
