A carpet cleaning tool can help you get rid of carpet dust quickly and easily. Before you start, treat any areas that seem particularly dirty. After that, use the machine to clean the carpet while occasionally filling and emptying the water tank. Use a carpet cleaner several times a year to keep your carpet in good condition.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Preparing the Carpet before Cleaning
Step 1. Remove the furniture from the area to be cleaned
Move the furniture on the carpet outdoors, if you can. Give yourself room to maneuver and reach tight spaces.
Work around furniture that cannot be moved. Slide the carpet cleaning tool around the furniture so you don't leave scratches there
Step 2. Clean the carpet with a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt
First clean your carpet with a regular vacuum cleaner. Work back and forth to remove as much dirt in there as possible. This method will prevent dirt on the carpet from entering further during the total cleaning process.
Step 3. Clean heavily soiled areas with carpet shampoo (optional)
You can buy carpet shampoo at the grocery store. Target areas that are frequently stepped on, and appear the dirtiest. The shampoo can be sprayed directly onto the carpet or wiped with a damp cloth. You may need to let the shampoo soak for 3 minutes before operating the carpet cleaner.
- Using a carpet cleaning tool alone is sometimes not enough to clean the area. So, the use of shampoo carpet will give more satisfying results.
- Read the usage instructions on the back of the carpet shampoo package to find out how to use the product.
Method 2 of 3: Setting Up the Cleaning Tool
Step 1. Fill the water tank with hot water
Remove the tank from the front of the carpet cleaning tool. Prepare hot water, then put it in the water tank. The tank usually has a water line, about at the top. This line indicates the water limit that can be entered.
To help you find and remove the carpet cleaning kit tank, consult the product manual. Usually, you only need to lift the plastic cover to do this
Step 2. Put the carpet cleaning fluid into the water tank
Choose a carpet cleaning product that is sold in supermarkets. This cleaning fluid is specially designed to work with carpet cleaning tools. So, the product is different from carpet shampoo. The tank usually has a second boundary line above the first line. Pour the cleaning liquid into the tank of hot water until it reaches the second line.
Some appliances have separate water and cleaning fluid tanks. Fill the water tank on the appliance to the brim, then fill the other tank with cleaning fluid and hot water to the specified limit
Step 3. Select the cleaning settings of the carpet cleaning tool, if any
Look for the button on the front of the cleaner, right next to the tank. The button usually contains light, normal, and heavy settings. Depending on how dirty your carpet is, choose the setting that fits best and adjust it during the cleaning process.
Step 4. Rotate the device control disc to the floor cleaning option
The regulating disc is a device that is at the top of the water tank. Rotate the disc until the arrow points to the floor cleaning option. Your carpet cleaning tool is now ready to use.
Method 3 of 3: Cleaning the Carpet
Step 1. Press the power button and the heater of the carpet cleaning tool
Plug the power cord into the nearest electrical outlet, then look for the switch on the back of the carpet cleaner. Press the button to start the engine and activate the heating system.
Step 2. Press the trigger button on the hand grip while moving the machine back and forth
Press the trigger button to spray water on the carpet. While pressing the button, push the tool forward, then pull it back into place. Focus on cleaning small areas at a time by moving the cleaning tool as far forward as possible without moving forward.
Step 3. Release the trigger button to stop the water spray
Move the tool to the same area without pulling the trigger button. Move the cleaning tool forward, then pull again to suck up dirt and water. Continue this until no water can be absorbed from the carpet. You will know when you observe the water holding tank empty over time.
Step 4. Continue cleaning the carpet until the water tank is full
You may need to move the cleaning tool to the dirty area one more time. Press the trigger button to dispense water and cleaning fluid, then use a stronger cleaning setting if necessary. Move to another area while still pulling and releasing the trigger button every now and then to remove dirt.
Step 5. Empty the water tank if the contents are visibly dirty
The cleaner will suck the dirt and water into the tank next to the tank containing the water you filled earlier. The tank also has a boundary line indicating its maximum capacity. Once the dirty water reaches the line, throw the water into the sink.
The dirty water tank is installed side by side with the clean water tank as a unit. Remove the plastic cover as you did to remove the unit
Step 6. Refill the water tank to continue the cleaning process
Prepare hot water again, then refill the tank with water and cleaning fluid according to the instructions for use. The cleaning tool is now ready to use again. Depending on the size of the carpet, you may need to drain the dirty water and refill the tank several times before turning off the cleaner completely.
Step 7. Connect the special attachment to the end of the cleaning hose to clean hard-to-reach areas
Some carpet cleaning kits are sold with hoses and attachments, such as a vacuum cleaner attachment. Attach the tool's special attachment to the end of the hose to clean hard-to-reach areas, such as corners of rooms or stairs.
Step 8. Adjust cleaning settings before using the tool
The cleaning settings button is the part that you previously set to the floor cleaning options. Rotate the arrow until it is facing you. This is a discharging option that changes the power setting from the floor cleaner to the cleaning hose. Use these tools to complete your carpet cleaning process.
- These additional tools are useful for cleaning hard-to-reach areas, such as room corners and stairs.
- You don't have to do this step later, but it's usually easier to clean large areas first before tackling the tough areas.
Tips
- We recommend that you clean your carpet at least 2 times a year. Clean areas that are heavily stained and are stepped on more often.
- Using a cleaning fluid other than the Bissell brand may void your carpet cleaning equipment warranty.
