Have you ever experienced it? You've just created your first new world in Minecraft and can't wait to start building, crafting, and exploring the wilderness around you. Suddenly, you realize that you have no equipment and no means to acquire equipment – so what do you do? It's easy: build a crafting table, which can pave the way to crafting a wide variety of items, including all the basic tools. Luckily, you can make a craft table with your bare hands!
Step
Part 1 of 2: Looking for Wooden Planks
Step 1. Find a tree
To make a craft table, you first need to collect small pieces of wood from somewhere in the world around you. The easiest way to do this is to find a tree. Unless you're in an area without trees, like in a desert or a marine biome, you're sure to find them not too far away.
There are several naturally occurring sources for wood blocks, although such sources are less common than trees. For example, wooden blocks bred as part of a house in a plain or savanna village, as well as in a witch's hut
Step 2. Break and collect wooden blocks
Once you find the source of the wood blocks, you can easily collect them yourself. Simply break a block of wood with your bare hands by approaching it, looking at it, while holding down the "attack/destroy" button. Cracks will spread across the block and eventually the block will break. If you have an ax, this job can be done quickly, but you don't need it to break a block of wood. Collect wooden blocks once they break.
- The default controls for the attack/destroy button in different versions of Minecraft are:
-
Computer:
Left click
-
Pocket Edition (Pocket Edition):
Hold the block you want to break
-
Xbox 360:
Right trigger button
Step 3. Make wooden blocks into wooden planks
Open your inventory. You will see a single block of wood in one of the boxes. Each block of wood can be made into four planks of wood, which is the exact number needed to make a crafting table.
- Use the following instructions to create a wooden plank in each version of Minecraft:
-
Computer:
Press “E” to open your inventory. Drag the wooden block into the crafting box at the top right. Drag the pile of four wooden planks into your inventory.
-
Pocket Edition:
Open your inventory and select a block of wood. Click the plank, then click the plank on the right to add it to your inventory.
-
Xbox 360:
Open the crafting menu by pressing “X”. Choose a wooden plank from the Structures menu and confirm your choice by pressing “A”.
Part 2 of 2: Making a Craft Table
Step 1. Use the wooden planks to make the table
Now, you'll have four planks of wood, which is the number you'll need to make a craft table. It doesn't matter what kind of wood you have (example: oak, birch, etc.) - all can be used.
- To create a table, use the following steps:
-
Computer:
Press E to open your inventory. Left-click on the stack of four wooden planks, then right-click on the four squares in the upper left. Drag the crafting table into your inventory.
-
Pocket Edition:
Go to your inventory and select a wooden plank. Click on the crafting table, then click on the crafting table button on the right to confirm.
-
Xbox 360:
Open the crafting menu by pressing “X”. Scroll the mouse to the right in the Structures menu and select the crafting table. Confirm your choice by pressing “A”.
Step 2. Place the table on the globe
Congratulations – you just made a craft table. However, you won't be able to use it to make tools and other items until you put that table down somewhere in the world. For that, first, make sure the table is in one of your equipped item boxes. Then, switch to the crafting table, find a clearing to place it on the ground, and use the "place block" button to place the table in the world.
- The default controls for the place button in different versions of Minecraft are:
-
Computer:
Right click.
-
Pocket Edition:
Tap the area where you want to place the block once it is complete.
-
Xbox 360:
Left trigger button.
Step 3. Open the crafting table menu to start making tools
Once the crafting table is on the ground, you can start using it right away. Opening the crafting table menu will allow you to craft a wide variety of items and tools, so you'll need to do this before you can dive deeper into the world of Minecraft. You'll also get a larger 3x3 grid for crafting items on the PC and Xbox versions of Minecraft (instead of the 2x2 grid you first got). However, you won't be able to craft anything until you have a few basic ingredients in your inventory (see steps below).
- The default controls for using the crafting table in different versions of Minecraft are as follows:
-
Computer:
View the table and then right click.
-
Pocket Edition:
Tap the crafting table.
-
Xbox 360:
Look at the table and click the left trigger button..
Step 4. Use the crafting table to make basic tools
Now that you have a crafting table, you can use the larger crafting area to craft many of the basic items you need to start exploring and conquering your world. The crafting “recipe” below will give you a basic set of wooden tools that you can use to mine rocks, fight creeps, and more. Tips
- Note that the Playstation 3 version of Minecraft is more or less the same as the Xbox 360 version in terms of menus and features.
- Crafting tables are also naturally bred in wizard libraries and cottages.
- In Minecraft Pocket Edition, you'll also need a rock cutter to make a lot of basic stone tools. This tool is made in exactly the same way as a crafting table, but uses four cobblestone blocks instead of four wooden planks.
