Do you have to model a volcano for a school assignment, science week, or just for fun? Well, to make it relatively easy and cheap. Pay attention to this article and you will have an amazing volcano!

Step

Part 1 of 2: Making Clay

Step 1. Find the ingredients to make a volcano from your kitchen

You'll be able to make simple dough-with moldable clay-like characters-very much like Play-Doh/playdough. You will need:

  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 cups of water
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups salt
  • Used plastic drink bottles cut in half
  • Food coloring (optional)

Step 2. Pour the flour, salt and oil into a bowl/basin to mix them

Put all the ingredients in the same bowl/basin so you can mix them. It is helpful if you sift the flour beforehand with the help of an egg beater, sieve/sieve, or fork to break up large lumps.

Step 3. Pour water into a bowl/basin, and if you wish you can add 2-3 drops of food coloring

Adding food coloring to the water will make the dye evenly distributed, so the entire volcano will be the same color, and not smudged.

If you don't want to add food coloring, you can paint the volcano with acrylic poster paint after forming the clay-like dough

Step 4. Mix and knead several times all the ingredients by hand

Mix and knead until a dough forms. Get a fairly soft dough, shape it and mix it until you get a slightly yellow dough ball. You can use a rubber spatula to scoop out the dough that is sticking to the walls of the bowl, but use your hands to form a nice, consistent ball. Make sure the clay (dough that resembles clay) is neither too runny nor too dry. The dough should be in conditions that allow us to shape it.

  • If the dough dries up as you work, add about a tablespoon or so of water.
  • If the dough is too wet, add a little more flour.

Step 5. Allow the dough to dry within 1-2 hours before forming

You need to make it wet enough to form, but not so dry that the dough crumbles and falls apart. If necessary, you can add more water, but try to be frugal.

Part 2 of 2: Forming a Volcano

Step 1. Create a protective surface

Spread out a sheet of waxed paper, a thick layer of newsprint, or a box or tray/tray that you can wrap with foil.

Step 2. Prepare a container for the lava

The container will be in the center of the volcano. You can use a variety of different containers such as soda cans, jars, plastic bottles, and so on.

Step 3. Form the clay dough. Start at the base and work your way up, placing the clay powder around the volcano to form the exterior. Try to make it lumpy and uneven, because it's rare for a volcano to appear as a perfect cone!

Step 4. Leave the volcano overnight to dry, or cook for an hour at 110˚C

First, form a volcano and leave the dough. Since this dough is technically a toy plasticine (more than just clay), you'll need to let it sit for 24 hours to allow it to dry and harden before perfecting your project. If you're in a hurry, put the mounts in the oven for an hour on low heat to dry them faster.

When you're done, don't forget to paint the volcano

Step 5. Put the baking soda into the volcano

Step 6. Prepare some vinegar

Add red food coloring to the vinegar. Mix in a spoonful of dish soap to add extra bubbles to the final effect.

Step 7. Pour the vinegar mixture into the container (the one in the center of the volcano)

Using a funnel might make it easier.

Step 8. Run

The meeting of vinegar with baking soda in a container will cause a reaction that makes the volcano erupt (erupt).

Tips

  • The smell of vinegar can be very bad, so throw away the newspaper and wipe everything down with a paper towel. Wash/rinse the volcano for later use.
  • Another way to model a volcano can be seen here.
  • You can also investigate the forms of volcanoes and choose the one you like from all of them.
  • You can paint the volcano to resemble a calm volcano with trees, snow, and so on. The mountain will resemble the mountains in our country.
  • When you are going to erupt the volcano, do it outdoors, for example in the backyard. Or you can do it indoors in a small box. If you do it outside, the explosion won't look messy and dirty when you clean it.
  • Another way is to fold a piece of cardboard into a cone shape and coat it with clay dough.
  • Make sure no one else is working on the same idea as you are.

Warning

  • After completing this project, wash your hands with soap and warm water.
  • This activity will get dirty and messy-you may need to complete the entire stage outside.
