If you're looking for a new way to cook a can of Spam, there are plenty of options to try. Since Spam is pre-cooked before being packaged, all you have to do is heat it up and add it to your cooking. Try sautéing Spam with eggs, rice or chickpeas for a quick delicious meal. You can also dice the canned meat, then grill it with the casserole or other food ingredients. For a filling lunch, use Spam to make a sandwich or hamburger with your favorite toppings and sauces.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Processing Spam
Step 1. Select the Spam flavor to be cooked
You may be familiar with the salty taste of classic Spam products, but did you know that Spam is available in a wide variety of flavors? Choose one of the following flavours:
- Bacon
- Oven-roasted turkey
- Hickory smoke
- Spicy
- Jalapeno
- teriyaki
- Black pepper
- Chorizo
Tip:
If you are maintaining your daily nutritional intake, choose Spam products with low salt content, such as Lite and Less-Sodium.
Step 2. Store the Spam can in the kitchen cupboard and place the opened can in the refrigerator
Unopened Spam cans can be stored in a room temperature kitchen cupboard and used before the expiration date on the package is used up. After opening the can, store Spam in the refrigerator and use it for a maximum period of 3 to 5 days.
You should store leftover Spam that has been baked, fried, or cooked in the refrigerator. Use within a maximum of 3 to 5 days
Step 3. Cut or slice Spam to complete the recipe
Open the can and remove the Spam meat onto a cutting board. Then, use a knife to dice the meat or slice it. You can slice or chop them as you wish.
If you want to bake Spam, there's no need to cut it. You can grill and slice it once it's heated
Step 4. Heat Spam for 5 minutes
Sliced or chopped spam will cook quickly when heated. You can use the microwave or fry them until they are evenly cooked. This usually takes up to 5 minutes if you use the stove. If you are using the microwave, heat the Spam in 30 second intervals until it is really hot.
Variation If you are grilling Spam whole, bake at 190°C for 20 minutes.
Method 2 of 4: Saute Spam
Step 1. Cook scrambled eggs with diced Spam for a quick breakfast
Mix 4 eggs with 60 ml of milk, then pour into the pan. Heat the eggs over medium heat and stir gently until hardened. After that, edge the eggs to the sides of the pan and add a can of diced Spam to the empty part of the pan. Cook Spam for a few minutes until really hot. Serve eggs and Spam with toast or crackers.
- You can use Spam slices instead of diced Spam.
- As a garnish, sprinkle chopped chives over the dish.
Step 2. Cook Spam, eggs and cold rice to make Spam fried rice
Heat some oil in a skillet over medium heat, then cook a can of diced Spam with the vegetables of your choice. Add 2 cups of rice and cook the mixture until all the rice is heated through. Add a little soy sauce to the fried rice just before serving.
For added protein, cook 2 beaten eggs until they become your favorite scrambled eggs
Step 3. Saute Spam with garlic and noodles to make a simple dish
Slice can of Spam into thin strips, then cook in a skillet over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Add 1 clove of minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. After that, add 450 grams of cooked ramen. Season the noodles with garlic oil and soy sauce to taste.
You can easily double this recipe if you want to make 2 servings
Step 4. Combine stir-fried chickpeas with Spam to make a filling dish
Heat a few drops of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook and sauté a can of diced Spam with a little fresh ginger or ground ginger. Then add the chopped green beans and cook for 3 to 5 minutes to let the vegetables soften.
Instead of seasoning the stir-fry with salt, use soy sauce
Method 3 of 4: Baking with Spam
Step 1. Double-bake potatoes with Spam
Bake 6 russet potatoes in the oven until soft in the middle. This generally takes about 1 hour at 190 °C. After that, remove the potatoes and cut them into two equal lengths. Remove the potato fillings and mash with the pepper and salt. Add a can of diced Spam and fill the potato skins with the mixture before serving.
For added flavor, sprinkle some grated cheese over the top of the mashed potatoes, such as cedar or pepperjack cheese
Variation:
To add vegetables, stir-fry chopped bell peppers or broccoli flowers until they are tender. Then, put these ingredients into the mashed potatoes.
Step 2. Wrap cookie dough onto the outside of the Spam and bake to make a Spam wellington
Instead of using expensive beef and puff pastry, spread out two whole Spams on a baking sheet touching each other. Sprinkle 100 grams of brown sugar on top and cover Spam with a can of biscuit dough. Bake the Spam wellington at 190 °C for 30 minutes.
- Spam wellingtons should be golden brown when finished cooking.
- Let the Spam wellington rest for 10 minutes so the hot dough doesn't hurt you.
Step 3. Add chopped Spam into your favorite casserole
To make a delicious pasta dish full of protein, chop up a can of Spam and dip it into the cooked noodles. Consider using Spam in a casserole mix of tuna noodles, macaroni and cheese, or carbonara.
Also add chopped Spam to the cold noodle dish. For example, put it in a cold pasta salad
Step 4. Use Spam and eggs when making pizza for a hearty breakfast
Place the frozen pizza dough in a special pizza pan or pan and bake at 190 °C for 10 minutes. Enter 5 eggs that have been beaten with 60 ml of milk, then pour into the dough that has been baked. Reheat the mixture for another 10 minutes until the eggs are cooked. Sprinkle the diced Spam and other ingredients of choice over the pizza and bake for another 3 to 5 minutes.
As a topping, you can use grated cheese, sliced tomatoes, chopped onions, or sliced olives
Method 4 of 4: Using Spam to Make Hamburgers or Sandwiches
Step 1. Slice Spam to make a classic sandwich
One of the easiest sandwiches you can make with Spam is to put Spam between two cups of buttered bread. Slice the spam, then warm in the microwave or skillet until fully cooked. After that, spread butter on two slices of bread and put Spam between them.
- If you want, you don't need to heat up the Spam because the product is already cooked.
- Add Spam slices to your favorite grilled cheese sandwich.
Tip:
Bread is a classic choice for making Spam sandwiches, but you can use any bread you want. For example, you can use rye bread, sourdough, or whole wheat bread to make a more filling sandwich.
Step 2. Substitute eggs, chicken, or tuna for a Spam salad sandwich
Instead of making egg, chicken, or tuna salad sandwiches, replace the protein with a can of diced Spam. Mix the diced Spam with the pickles, mayonnaise, and your favorite seasoning before putting it on the sandwich.
You can also serve Spam salad with biscuits or vegetable preparations
Step 3. Bake Spam slices to make a spamburger
Instead of roasting minced beef, open a Spam can and slice it into quarters. Heat a gas or charcoal grill to medium heat, then lay the Spam pieces on top. Bake the Spam for 5 to 7 minutes and use tongs to flip it over when it's half done. Then, place 1 slice of Spam between the hamburger buns and serve with your favorite sauce.
Try using classic hamburger sauces, such as ketchup, mustard, pickles, and cheese. You can also top the hamburger with other ingredients for added flavor, such as sauerkraut or kimchi
Step 4. Make a Hawaiian-style spamburger using pineapple and hot sauce
For a salty, sweet-tasting hamburger, bake 4 Spam slices until cooked through. While the Spam is baking, spread the mayonnaise and drizzle a little hot sauce, such as sriracha, over a loaf of bread. Then, place a hot piece of Spam on top. Complete the dish with Swiss cheese and another slice of bread.
