There are many ways to cook sausages, but using the oven is the easiest. You don't have to wait and flip it over the frying pan or grill. Also, you can cook them on aluminum foil for easy cleaning. Arrange the sausages so that they are evenly spaced on the foil-lined pan. Then, depending on the size of the sausage, bake for 20-40 minutes in an oven at 177 degrees Celsius.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Preparing the Sausage
Step 1. Remove the sausage from the refrigerator 20 minutes before cooking
About 20 minutes before you put the sausage in the oven, remove it from the refrigerator and place it on the counter. This will keep the sausages from getting too cold and will cook more evenly.
Step 2. Preheat the oven to 177 degrees Celsius
If the oven is taking a long time to heat up, it's best to turn it on before removing the sausage from the refrigerator.
Step 3. Cut the sausage in the eye if it's still connected
If they are still linked together, it will be difficult to space the sausages so they may not cook as evenly as they should. Cut all the parts that are still connected with scissors.
Step 4. Line a baking sheet with foil
Cut the foil slightly longer than the pan you will be using. Wrap the ends of the paper around the edges of the pan so that they are stuck there. Add foil so that the sausage doesn't stick to the pan and is easy to clean.
Step 5. Place a wire rack over the baking sheet to reduce the oil
If you want the sausages to be less greasy, place a wire rack on the baking sheet. This rack should fit snugly in the pan and not shift when you hold the pan.
The rack helps to remove excess oil from the sausages so the sausages don't cook in the oil bath
Step 6. Spread the sausages evenly on the baking sheet
Place the sausages on the baking sheet and space them evenly apart. It's a good idea to leave a 5cm gap between each sausage in case any of them roll while cooking.
Part 2 of 2: Baking Sausage
Step 1. Cook the sausages in the oven for 20 minutes
Place the sausages on the middle rack in the oven. Cook for 20 minutes if the size is standard.
Step 2. Flip the sausage when it's halfway through cooking time
After 10 minutes, slide the oven rack out and use a fork to flip the sausage. Rotate each sausage so that the side facing down is now up.
Step 3. Cook larger, thicker sausages for 40 minutes
20 minutes may not be enough to cook a thick, large sausage. If the sausage is cooked for 40 minutes, turn it over after another 20 minutes.
Step 4. Cut the sausage into small pieces to test for doneness
After 20 minutes, (or 40 minutes for large sauces), pull the pan out of the oven and place it on the stove. Hold the sausage with a fork and cut into small pieces with a knife. Cut deep enough to see the color in the center of the sausage.
Step 5. Add 10 minutes while the inside is still pink
The sausage should be completely brown. If it's still pink in the middle, put the pan back in the oven and cook for another 10 minutes.
Step 6. Test another sausage and cook again if needed
Choose another sausage and cut a small portion back down the middle. If it's still pink, continue to add another 5 minutes until the center of the sausage is brown.
Step 7. Use a meat thermometer if you are concerned about the safety of the meat
If you want to make sure the sausage is safe to eat, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Insert a thermometer into the center of the sausage and check if the temperature rises to 70 degrees Celsius or above.
